Left hand for cutaway, right hand for reserve?
veter_ replied to veter_'s topic in Safety and Training
Since there have been two fatalities recently caused by cutaway cable not clearing the housing on one side, I thought... why not change the way we pull the handles? i.e., pull the cutaway handle with the left hand to full arm's extension, then pull the reserve handle with the right hand to full arm's extension. This will add an extra 1-1.5ft to cable travel and will clear the cables for sure. Besides, if the chest strap is not tight (e.g. after loosening it after opening), pulling with the same side hand may cause harness to slip on shoulder, thus reducing the cable travel. The proposed method will not cause harness slip. -
Does the sink tone change with the rate of decent or it's a flat tone?

I can't, because maybe I'll try to do this myself someday. Unless, of course, Jeb has the same idea in mind :)

I think I khow how to land safely not only a wingsuit, but even a wingless jumper. Seriously. The technology is simple, but still requires a sponsorship. The best is yet to come!!!!!!! :)

A revolutionary landing technology allowed crazy Russians to successfully land a wingsuit without a parachute. Who would have thought that it's so simple? 1. Get on top of a beautiful mountains in Kamchatka, Russia. http://www.ruexp.ru/photo/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=1 2. Drink a lot of Red Bull mixed with Russian vodka, and take a snowboard with you. http://www.ruexp.ru/photo/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=5 3. Fly your wingsuit parallel to the slope. http://www.ruexp.ru/photo/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=26 4. When you see open water, quickly undress and use the snowboard to land on water. http://www.ruexp.ru/photo/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=30 5. Drink more vodka and repeat. http://www.ruexp.ru/photo/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=31 http://www.ruexp.ru/photo/displayimage.php?album=27&pos=32 Sorry, Jeb.

Is it worth doing even if I have a moderate near-sightness (-1.25 and -1.5)?

It would be cool to check for traffic on a wireless PDA while in freefall.

How about using BASE canopy with skydiving container? Afterall, it's just a canopy.

Jump from a hot air balloon.

I hope they got nice 180 on opening

Nate, what a great video!!! Very cool jumps, and those bouncing tits and running a$$es spice it up nicely. You guys have too much fun! c ya, Yuri the 3rd

Isn't this exactly how Shane McConkey explains how to jump in "Radix"? "You can sit in this backpack system pretty easily, no problem."

It's nearly impossible to relax when you spin 1-2 revolutions per second. Instead of doing nothing, DO SOMETHING. Do random motions. Kick your legs and arms. Suddenly, the spin will stop. Then relax, do a "I f*cking don't care" arch and maintain stability. If you can't get stable in 5 seconds, PULL.

Where can I buy it?

Fantastic job, Jimmy! Incredible visuals and music seem to melt in each other. Thanks! veter

Rauk, thanks for a great post! It's love that's inside.

For someone with thousands of jumps, maybe. For inexperienced jumpers who sometimes screw up even into-the-wind landing, downwind landing is a very big risk. Surprised by how great speed is there, they can get the extreme tunnel vision, panic, miscalculate flare. Safety is the risk management. It's how to minimize the sum of all risks RiskOfCollision + RiskOfDownwindInjury + ... + riskN. If student sees that everybody has landed, so that risk of collision = 0.00000%, why take a 31.415269% risk of injury in downwind landing? And whould you rather be hit by a scared student at 40mph or 15mph when stowing your brakes? If first man down made a mistake (or a "joke"), but it's quite obvious, so the 2nd lands into the wind, what is the risk of collision if the rest lands as the 2nd? Instead of enforcing the rules, they better teach how to evaluate the risks and uze the CPU in our heads to minimize the sum.

Yes, and it was a girl at the Ranch, NY who made this amazingly detailded sculpture out of a trivial snowman. Girls see the detail that we don't see

That's how I got seriously hurt - broke my tailbone and both hands, lost a lot of blood - when I hit the edge of concrete with my a$$. Nobody pointed out to me during my AFF and early jumps that lifting legs ala tandem passenger can lead to trouble, so I developed a muscle memory of doing my flare too late and getting away by lifting legs. IMHO, it's better to flare 1-2ft higher that 1-2ft lower. Save your a$$! :)

Rules are not necessarily = safety. There's much less chance of injuries when 1 person lands downwind and 19 into the wind than all 20 downwind. Use your head. Somebody's mistake is not worth my life.
