  1. Did you copy my post from a year ago? I had a similar situation. My husband started video taping my landings (because I never believed what people were telling me). After a couple of videos, I was able to see my problem areas, and I've been standing them up ever since.
  2. Has anyone heard about an incident where the tandem master was entangled in some lines and passed out? I've been told that the cameraman pulled his pilot chute and saved the day?????? NOT A RELIABLE SOURCE Can anyone confirm, correct, or give details? Dawn
  3. I heard about this post and was immediately incensed, but since reading it, I see that a lot of people have put a lot of thought into it. That said, I have to agree with the people who think "bounce bingo" is sick! I completely understand the concept of peer pressure, and we all know that it works, but some ways seem to be better than others. I like the idea of a "time out" when one of my kids is being an idiot, breaking the rules, endangering themselves or others... Grounding a skydiver for a brief period is a sort of "time out." Or time to think, or in this case - sulk. Don't tell me thay can just go to another drop zone - word travels fast. Even if he jumps somewhere else, everyone can still tease him about being in "time out." PEER PRESSURE I like the idea of pre-filling out an incident report if shock value is what you're after. And if the guy truly is an idiot, kick him/her off permanently. So, maybe he will go somewhere else. Let other dropzones know he's banned and why. Personally, if he is unsafe, I don't want him in the air anywhere around me! As for a betting pool of any kind. That is the problem. Play a game with no money involved. Go public, make him look like an idiot... whatever. But the purpose of a bet is to win. Some say that people don't always collect the money - I should hope not, but does that mean that sometimes they do? That's the idea that bothers me. That's where it crosses the line from trying to "get through" to an ego-maniac to some form of entertainment. Sorry if I offended anyone, and for what it's worth - I agree with everyone who said he needs to find out why he's on the list and make some changes. BEER - Dawn
  4. Months ago someone posted a video of some guy's 1st AFF. Among other crazy events, he flew into some power lines. Where can I find it? Thanks, Dawn
  5. My husband fell through a cloud during an AFF level two or three jump. Our instructor said everything had been going fine, and then he looked like a deer in headlights. He completely froze, and then went right by his pull altitude. The instructor moved in, grabbed his arm, and was reaching when my husband finally pulled. He failed the jump too, pulled around 3,000. I also experienced going blank on several of my first AFF dives. I remember looking at my altimiter, but not reading it, looking at the ground, but not knowing where the heck I was, and looking at my instructor, but not having a clue what signals he was giving me. Your awareness will improve. Keep up the training. The first time you go out that door by yourself, no agenda, no one observing you, just playing on your own - wow, now that's a wonderful feeling!
  6. Love it now, but I don't think I would have been able to jump the first time if I'd had to do it by myself. Also, tandem pulls in a lot of people who only "think" they'll be doing it once. I thought I was just going out for a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I've known others who went out for the same reason and got hooked as well.
  7. [re***ply]I'm pretty sure that other thread was locked for a reason. That's why I started a new one.
  8. You know....we really don't need this political bs here......***
  9. Having just read psychoswooper's recent post about the tandem lines, I saw nothing, I repeat nothing that pointed at any particular person. It was a request for facts and clarification. Post: http://www.dropzone.com/...;;page=unread#unread As for the response that only three people had the right to post the thread.... BS! Many of my friends were at that boogie, and if I had wanted to post the thread, it would have been my prerogative - that's what the forums are for. To those few who read innuendo between the lines, go back and reread... there was only empty space between the lines. To Chris, Wow! What a standup guy. I've only met you once, and my gut told me you were a good guy. I absolutely respect you! To Cindy, love ya babe! You can pack my chute any time. Dawn
  10. ***The only one I've seen before was the van underwater. And I'm pretty sure it's fake. Quote I've seen a horse in a pool, and you're right, some of the water definitely displaces.
  11. Hi JBlackwell, I needed a good father’s day gift for my 35 year old husband, so I signed us both up for our first tandems. He awoke on father’s day to the alarm clock going off and a father’s day card with his appt. card inside. He was ecstatic. We arrived at the dropzone to the concerned smiles of parents (on both sides) brothers, sisters…. who were in-the-know and had come to watch. It was supposed to be a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Oooops – we were both immediately hooked. Now we’re licensed and usually up at the dropzone every weekend (even when we can’t afford to jump). Our kids are now dropzone kids, and our 5 yr old is in love with one of the packers. Good luck on your project, and scream all you want on that first tandem (no one can hear you).
  12. *** One Sunday morning during service, a 2,000 member congregation was surprised to see two men enter, both covered from head to toe in black and carying submachine guns. One of the men proclaimed, "Anyone willing to take a bullet for Christ remain where you are." Quote Interesting, but somewhat flawed. If Jesus came in and asked me to take a bullet for him .... sure. If some insane terrorist asked me to offer up myself or my children just to prove to HIM that I am a believer ... hell yeah I'd run ... and I'd be using my body to shield my children in the process. I don't owe that terrorist anything, least of all my life.
  13. *** Quote All of them. Parents need to turn off the #!#!$# TV and send their kids outside. Help them build forts, swing on tireswings; teach them to fish; encourage them to join a team sport or take up karate, swimming, tennis. Encourage them in areas that are healthy. But first and foremost - turn off the TV!
  14. Do you want armed guards in schools now as well? *** Quote They are already in the schools. We have one in the high school where I teach. I noticed the gun the day the officer came to my classroom and handcuffed one of my students. Another student had told administrators that this particular boy had a loaded gun in his locker and was bragging that he was going to shoot another student after school. They had already found the loaded gun when they arrived in my room. Anyway - I'm glad we had an armed guard on duty that day. Dawn
