If anyone saw the short guy with a robot on his shirt... that was me ;) Felt like an ass all day since I woke up late and missed my AFP course though . Ended up going for a 3rd tandem instead... but I do feel a lot more comfortable about going for my first AFP jump now since I had an awesome tandem instructor who taught me a lot.

0:1:2 Humps: 0 Jumps: 1 Tandem jump (with me as the passenger) Firsts: Woke up late and missed my AFP course Had an awesome tandem instructor, learned about the holding area, crabbing, running, landing pattern, and was able to do two turns on my own after being shown how in freefall. First standing exit, first stood up landing, and the first jump with some of my own gear (goggles). I'm actually glad it worked out the way it did this weekend... I feel a lot more confident about my first AFP jump now.

If the weather holds up, I'll be making use of that bar with some friends who are doing tandems after some AFP jumps on Saturday

Congrats! Awesome bike... my friend just got the same one and I find myself constantly bugging him to let me borrow it ;) Just make sure to get a louder pipe on there... the stock one is wayyyy too quiet and I'd never trust riding it in heavy traffic like that.

Wasn't saying cruiser guys didn't (don't think you were saying I did, but I just wanted to make that clear anyway...). Agreed... it's sad. Trying to convince the latter to learn before hitting the road on a brand new 1,000cc+ sports bike (which they shouldn't have anyway) is an uphill battle. Just the other day a friend of a friend asked me to ride his brand new CBR1000RR home for him because he wasn't capable and "wanted to learn it on his own block for a week or so before riding it". Kid has never ridden a bike in his life... I told him flat out that I give him 2 months if he doesn't take some courses and buy a bike he can handle.

Same here... though unfortunately I get a "one finger wave" from many cruiser guys and t-shirt and shorts wearing squids on sports bikes who have difficulty making turns over 2mph and don't know what counter-steering is.

I'm one of the sports bike riders you describe, who uses the track to push my limits... but your generalization still bothers me a bit. I've seen just as many morons on cruisers riding beyond their abilities on public roads as I have on sports bikes... and I RARELY see any of the guys on cruisers wearing helmets or leathers. Also, what would you expect to see a line of in front of a bar... sports bikes, or cruisers? Exactly... Sports bike riders are made to look like the bad guys by the media just like skydivers, BASE jumpers, etc... and attitudes like yours won't help.
