  1. It is reasonable to think that a person with a gun in a bar might have a few beers. If the gun is concealed and no one knows he has it, what is to stop him from having a cold one? A few, in this thread, believe it is alright to have a drink or two while armed. For what reason does anyone need to be armed when in a bar? Do they think they are there to protect everyone from the "bad guys?" Are they only there to show off their gun? What, exactly, is the reason that some feel that they need to be armed while inside a tavern? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  2. Not the case at all. The argument is Christians claim that the laws in the bible are laws dictated by God and God alone. Much that is in the bible can be found in writings that predate the bible. Same goes for the Sermons on the Mound. Near everything in that portion of the text can be found in the Tao, which predates the bible by several thousand years. If Jesus did hold sermons on the mound and actually preached the words in the text, he might have very well been a follower of the Tao. He may had only been preaching from the Tao, and not from some type of God. Taoism was extremely popular throughout the region at the time of Jesus. It would appear that those who wrote the books in the bible took the teachings from others and claimed that their God gave them the words which to write. Given this, the bible teeters on plagiarism. 3. That may very well be true. However, shooting oneself in the head is usually a sure-fire way of ending ones life immediately. Where as eating pills or slitting a wrist is not. Often a person with thoughts of suicide will reach out to others before attempting the act. I was in those shoes in 1995. Had my gun not been taken from me the outcome of the depression would not been what they were. I tried several times. Each time was reversible. Had I had my gun, the attempt would not had been that. True, not every suicide can be stopped. There are those who will succeed no matter what. Yet, if a person in your home is depress, remove the gun. Doing so just may save a persons life. I'm thankful that mine was taken from me. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  4. As a white male, you stand a higher chance of shooting yourself (suicide), than you do from being shot by another person. http://sbm.temple.edu/dept/rihm/documents/seminars/Jean%20Lemaire.pdf http://www.afsp.org/index.cfm?fuseaction=home.viewpage&page_id=050fea9f-b064-4092-b1135c3a70de1fda From the site: Firearms and Suicide Although most gun owners reportedly keep a firearm in their home for "protection" or "self defense," 83 percent of gun-related deaths in these homes are the result of a suicide, often by someone other than the gun owner. Firearms are used in more suicides than homicides. Death by firearms is the fastest growing method of suicide. Firearms account for 50 percent of all suicides. 5. The pledge of allegiance was written by a socialist. Nowhere in the pledge is there reference to tyranny. How do you figure that socialist love tyranny? The socialist pledge of allegiance: The original version. I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Revision #1: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Revision #2: I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America, and to the republic for which it stands, one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty, and justice for all. Really screwed up that the pledge was changed to reflect the view of a special interest group (Christians.) If you have ever recited this, then you have pledge allegiance to socialism. Do you not believe in the pledge? Are you anti-American? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  6. The ball does float away, every time they answer a prayer! When a prayer is answered, one of the Great Green Giraffes will spike the ball onto the ocean floor. The ball will then rush to the surface, carrying the answered prayer. Afterwards, the Great Green Giraffes will go to the Deep Abyss of Magical Green Apples of Knowledge and feast until they are full of gas. Have you ever seen bubbles that come to the top of the ocean surface? Those are from the Great Green Giraffes. Those are the Farts of Faith. When they erupt on the surface, they help to restore our faith in the Great Green Giraffes! Don't go thinking that the Great Green Giraffes are all loving. They can be vengeful, too. Why just the other day I was having doubt in them. As I walked from one room to another I stubbed my toe. It was quite painful. The pain reminded me that without faith, my life would be even more painful. The Great Green Giraffes farted faith to remind me of this. They are all knowing and someday, I will bask in their glory for eternity. ALL HAIL THE GREAT GREEN GIRAFFES! Without them, my life would be meaningless. No proof needed. Just faith.
  7. Green giraffes live on the bottom of the ocean. They are herded about by pink midgets. The giraffes eat apples from the tallest apple trees that grow in the deepest abyss. They like to play volley ball when they are not answering prayers from the true believers. It's true. As a matter of fact, it is a fact. No evidence is needed. You only have to have faith that it is true. Do you believe me? Do you need proof? If you do require proof, sorry, I have none. You just have to have faith that it is true. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  8. In order for something to be fact, there must be indisputable evidence. If you cannot produce such evidence, you should stop with the crazy claims. I'm an atheist and I've never desired to rob a bank. I do not need some magical ghost to tell me that it is wrong to do so. My nature has been as it has always been. Are you going to tell us, next, that born again Christians never go above the speed limit? "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  9. You foolish little human! The bible says he exist, so he does. Oh, and J.R.R. Tolkien's book 'The Hobbit' says that Hobbits exist, so they do. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  10. Well then, there you go! The authoritative word from a book that claims a magical spirit made mud people and then put his lips to them and gave them life!!!!!!! WOW!!!!! I'm so not impressed. I am impressed with: http://www.sciencemag.org/site/extra/sediba/index.xhtml You know, actual scientist. Not like those hacks and nut sacks at AiG. Hint, hint, AiG is not a credible source. In fact, people who quote AiG are often laughed at. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  11. It's at the Tropical Isles Bar. It's one of those fruit and booze drinks. Now if you really want a drink that will explode in your head, go to the Philippines and have a pitcher of Mojo. Looks like, and taste like Koolaid. That shit will have ya' busting through walls. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  12. More proof that AiG is just stupid and that those who believe AiG are just as stupid. http://www.cbsnews.com/stories/2011/09/08/scitech/main20103228.shtml?tag=re1.latest "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  13. Especially with his "Don't try and divide us when we all stand for the same thing" remark to one of the moderators. I found it odd that Perry could dismiss the science behind climate change and evolution, yet agree with science when it came to HPV. I also think that Perry calling SS a "Ponzi scheme" will ultimately cause his downfall. Even Cheney's not very thrilled with the crop of scum. Listening to him this morning, he had fond words for Hillary Clinton. So much to say she would probably make a good President. Personally, I think she would make a great President. She should make a run for the office. http://www.businessinsider.com/dick-cheney-has-blunt-words-for-the-gop-presidential-candidates-2011-9 http://www.nydailynews.com/news/politics/2011/09/04/2011-09-04_dick_cheney_hillary_clinton_would_have_been_easier_for_gop_to_work_with_than_oba.html "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." 15. http://www.bls.gov/oco/ocos345.htm Do you really believe their job is all too easy? The carriers in my county are considered part time. They are rural letter carriers. They drive their own vehicle. Major wear and tears. They pay for their own maintenance, oil, tires... They deliver mail regardless of the weather. Extreme heat, ice storms, blizzards, below zero temperatures. Any kind of condition. They're in it. When most people are safe at home during major storms, these people are out delivering the mail. They earn every dime they get. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  16. It's Breaking and Entering, and THEFT Lose their jobs? No - go to JAIL In these cases it needs to be handled exactly the same as if a regular civilian did the exact same thing Not going to happen... brotherhood first. There aren't many crimes that a police officer commit that result in that officer being treated like a regular citizen. Exactly. Take a look at a shooting where the person shot by a cop doesn't even have a gun. They get a reprimand. We go to jail. There is a double standard and not in our favor. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  17. I agree 100%. I've searched and searched for the reason why they took her firearms. I cannot find reason to why or even how the came to know that she had them. If she done nothing wrong, give them back, and reimburse her for the trouble and expense this has caused. 18. Missouri enacted CCW in 2003, Sept. 11th. Looking at the numbers from 2003 to 2009, it would be a stretch to say the index proves that CCW law reduces crime overall. The same can be said for PA. Take for instance MO murder rate. In 2003 there were 289 murders. The following years brought 354, 402,368,385,456, and for 2009 there were 383 murders. Five years prior to the law there were lower rates than 2009. Further back there were higher rates and lower rates. Population has to also be taken into consideration as does the areas where population rates spiked. Even then, murder rates would be a poor indicator whether or not CCW law has any affect. Also interesting is that forcible rape, robbery, and aggravated assault rates are higher now than when the law was enacted. Property crimes, however, are lower, where as violent crimes are up. There is really not that much difference when compared to PA crime rate. Although I am in favor of CCW, as I support the second amendment, I do not see any correlation with CCW and lower crime rates when the picture is expanded to a wider spectrum of all crimes. What I do see, when looking at the expanded view, is only trends in crime. That said, it doesn't hurt to be armed. An interesting perspective: http://www.davekopel.com/2A/LawRev/ShallIssue.htm#c10 PA crime report: http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/pacrime.htm MO crime report: http://www.disastercenter.com/crime/mocrimn.htm "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." 19. You can do both: have a quickly available gun, as well as a gun that is safe from the reach of children. Example: http://www.gunvault.com/handgun-safes/multi-vault-biometric.html There are also cheaper ones that don't read fingerprints, but just have a combination lock that uses a sequence of finger depressions to open them. When my granddaughters were born, I bought their dad one, and insisted that he use it. That is money well spent. I wish more people would be as safety conscious and realize that it is stupidity that kills people. Not guns, cars, motorcycles...,but people not paying attention. 20. I would think the police would have video from their dash cameras. My nephew use several cameras while interacting with the public. If it is on video, it removes all doubt. The public is held to a different standard than the police. But this is not the first time an autistic man has been killed by a police officer. The Steven Washington cases comes to mind. He was shot in the head from only a few feet away. The cop said he mistaken a cell phone for a gun. As far as I can tell, they got departmental disciplined. If I had shot the guy, claiming I thought his cell phone was a gun, I'd be sitting in a cell. I can agree with that. Yet, I still think that so many of these cases could be handled differently. And back to gun safety: http://northcounty.fox2now.com/news/news/gun-safety-hot-topic-after-second-child-shoots-self-week/62184 Two kids dead in one week. One child, age 3, the son of a Maryland Heights, MO police officer accidentally shot himself in the chest. The other was a 3 year old girl whom shot herself in the head while playing with a gun. From the article: Both the doctor and the police chief say they’ve heard the argument that locking guns away defeats the purpose of having them for protection. Both agree it’s a choice that has to be made, and a choice that should be made in favor of child safety. I've heard the same argument. Most of us have. My thought is, if you live in such an extremely dangerous neighborhood that you need a loaded weapon at arms reach at all time, maybe a gun isn't the answer to your safety... Maybe moving to a better area is. "...And once you're gone, you can't come back When you're out of the blue and into the black." Neil Young
  21. A more in-depth report concerning recidivism and sexual offenders. http://www.csom.org/pubs/recidsexof.html It really does depend on the type of offense. Some offenses are merely teenagers making out. Back in 1977 a guy from my high school did time for having sex with his girlfriend. He just turned 18, she was 16 and about to turn 17. They drove over to the canal near Granite City, Illinois. One of the charges was taking a minor across State line (Missouri to Illinois) for the purpose of sex. He got something like 5 years and did something like 3 years. I'm sure that he eventually had to register as a sex offender. Really unfair as they had been dating for several years before the incident. She testified in his favor. As I remember, even the girls father tried to keep him from being charged. The prosecutor slammed the kid anyways. The spot at the canal was a popular make-out spot back in the 70s. 23. This is not the first time a person with a realistic toy gun has been killed by police. This shooting leaves a lot of questions to be answered. Had anyone else, but a cop, shot this guy, they'd be sitting in a jail cell. http://news.yahoo.com/man-toy-gun-shot-killed-police-fla-073336410.html http://www.wsvn.com/news/articles/local/21005261341939/ http://blogs.miaminewtimes.com/riptide/2011/09/ernest_vassell_autistic_man_ki.php http://miami.cbslocal.com/2011/08/31/n-miami-beach-police-officers-shot-rifle-wielding-man/ Children with toy guns killed by police: http://www.freerepublic.com/focus/f-chat/1855490/posts http://articles.latimes.com/1985-03-04/local/me-24218_1_wrongful-death-suit This one lived: http://articles.latimes.com/2009/may/11/local/me-palmdale11 This one was damn lucky he wasn't shot: http://www.kitsapsun.com/news/2009/jan/15/bremerton-boy-playing-with-toy-gun-draws-big/?partner=RSS A fact sheet: http://www.irol.com/avc/fact_sheet_about_toy_guns.html Studies show that most children younger than eight can not reliably distinguish a toy gun from a real gun. http://www.med.umich.edu/yourchild/topics/guns.htm The U-M C.S. Mott Children's Hospital National Poll on Children's Health finds that over half of parents who don't own a gun have never talked with their children about gun safety. Now, I am a gun lover. I love to shoot and really love hunting, but there are things that just bother me. Top of the list is needless death by people not paying attention. Add in realistic toy guns and things get bad for the person with the toy and the cop who has to live with the fact that he or she killed a child (or an adult) with a toy. Just needless death. All the more reason to teach children the difference between real and fake as well as when to sit the toy gun down. All the more reason for police to be able to identify a toy (orange tips?). 25. Jaycee Dugard is not a sexual predator. She was the victim of Phillip Garrido, a career sexual predator. Yes, I made a mistake and got the names mixed up, so pay no attention to my post. One mistake = all relevancy gone and throw the whole thing out. fucking lawyers..... I figured that you just made a mistake. I should had stated that. Oh, don't ever mistaken me for a scumbag lawyer Next time, I'll turn my lawyer loose on you. Shelley can be vicious, but don't worry, she is freaking hot, hot, hot
