  3. Hi N-Z!!!!"", Hahaahhahahahhah!!! You didn't screw up anything!!! So ya' missed a couple of good landing areas but the clincher was," Stand up!! in the peagravel parking lot 'ON' your "First! jump on the Saber 190!!!!" Hell that's HOT!! I have a Stiletto 190 and believe me there is no substitute for lots of square feet of nylon above you!!! You are welcome on any of my skydives!! Jeeeez, back when trying to do a "Stand up landing" under a 28' 7-TU would get you two broke ankles!!!!! That's why we got taught PLF's!! BTW 'ya might buy a case for your first standup under the 190 but yer instructor's 1000'th was a case on it's own regardless of the outcome of the skydive, 'ya walked away under your own power without the beniefit of an ambulance ('Bofya'!!) Good job!! BTW#2 So ya' found out that those ZP Big canopies have a "Lot More" Glide than the rust bucket slug student rigs, interestin' aint it?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. Hi 01, 'Wonder what Ed Vickery would have to say?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. Hi j4, "Got Photos????" Back when, Ben Seal, Jr. at Hammond, La., Southland Skydivers, had a C-9 that he modified into a Paracommander complete with crown lines, pulled down vent and stabs. He took Leon Riche's P/C and copied the mods although he should have made the turn slots a hair bit bigger as the C-9 was 28' and the P/C 24'. Ben called it the "Sky Hook!!" I wrote about it elsewhere here on H & T. I put a bunch of jumps on it in the fall of '66 before I went into the Navy and Mike Marcon took it over after that till it got "retired." It flew like a slow PC, turns were acceptable , it had a better glide than a C-9 and definitely a softer landing!! Always stood it up with no trouble. Stan Spooner from the era had one he made also, saw him jump it at the old Cotton Belt Council meets. They're out there.
  6. Hi JB!!!!, funny thing you should mention that!! 'Made it thru the C&P's, 5 sec and 10 sec delays but the 15's got me with the spinz!! Did a couple where I wound up a bunch of line twists! Thank God those 28's had long lines! Lynn Anselmo from Louisiana Skydivers finally straightened me out with a good pep talk about "RELAXING!!!" He said holding a "Hard Arch" when ya' pick up speed does it, gotta relax and go with the flow!! I said,"Ya' want me to go up and do a 10SD??" "No," he said,"We're goin' up, I'll follow you out and you're gona do a 30!!(from 7500'!)" He kept talkin to me in the plane tellin me to remember to relax and off we went!! "WOW!!" That was the one!! Kept checkin my alt and Lynn was right there, seemed like the dive took forever!! That was jump# 20 on 27DEC64. Hi skybill (HUMOR) Dude ur so retarded wht didn't try tandem, AFF, the tunnel, utube , turbines to 13k. wanna check out my video Let me guess you walked up hill to school in the snow coming and going. Sorry Folks I couldn't help myself Got my medicare card in the mail today I can hardly wait for the next milestone R. Hi Ripper, Thx for the humor.........48 years later!!!! as the last line said, jump #20, 27DEC64!! Tunnels, Tandem, AFF?? Those were still pipe dreams back then, hell, the first demo PC just made it to the DZ a few weeks before that by our ASO Mark Boudreaux. The Canopy was so "Advanced" that if ya' ordered one they sent it to Mark and he "checked you out on it!!!" Thoze were da' daze!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi 'Tekkie!!, Funny you should mention that! There was a time, back in the day, when all there was, was B-12 Snaps!! then someone showed up at the DZ with a rig with ejectors!! Got to be the rage till a few came un done in free fall!! "EG!!!" Mid 60's at I think it, no it was a Pascagoula (Cotton Belt Council for those that can remember!!) meet, Herb Golden from Louisiana Skydivers and one of the hottest Style competors in the South goes out on a style jump and the judges missed him on the telemeters.....did this on 2 jumps in a row!! (Just to let you know, Herb was jumping a Bell Helmet, French Boots, a Pioneer Jumpsuit, and a Security System [often referred to as a Kelvinator rig in modern skydiving folklore!] that was the first "Piggy Back" comercial rig!! [also one of the first split saddle rigs!!]and it had "EJECTOR HARDWARE!!" on the third attempt Herb went out and one of his leg straps ejector hardware kicked loose!! He spent most of the dive rolling, looping and generally being out of control trying to get ahold of that leg strap and hooking it back up before he bounced which he did, (hook up the leg strap, not bounce) anyway, the judges got him at 8 seconds clean (no over shoots or undershoots etc) on the style series which was "FAST" for those daze gone by!! If you don't believe me, call Herb, he still lives in Baton Rouge and Philip R. "Cappy" Connors (whereever he is these daze) usedta' tell the story with "Great viggah!!" Also, I was at the same meet!! Keetchykoo ya'll!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  9. ! Thing is, it took 70+ S/L's before Kathy could be cleared for freefall!! Gotta give the Lady an A for Perserverance!! Any So. Cal people know if Kathy is still around?? well good! i don't have the dubious honor of that record ask her if she got the bowling speech. I did it pissed me off and I got my shit together and once i hit terminal it was all good Hi Keith, Read jimjumper's post above mine, Cathy corrected me as she only had 49 and mentioned Jerry Girdler who she says had more!! Oh well, it's a moot point anymore with wind tunnels, Tandems and AFF being available!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. I'm going from memory on this so give me some slack; back around 1966 or so, the 100,000 jump was made at PI at Orange. The guy who made the jump was making his 100th jump & all S/L's. But, I may be incorrect. JerryBaumchen There was an old guy that was a club member where I started out, he had some physical problems and wasn't confident with freefall skills so ALL he ever did was SL jumps. I know he had over 200 because he was on his 3rd logbook when I left that area for college. He jumped a jumbo PC even after everybody else went square... and he was always within a meter or two of the disk. Jake Mhor, he owned Golf-Mhor links & country club outside of Davenport. I doubt he's above ground now, he'd be in his late 90's early 100's. Hi Jim and Jerry, Yup there were those who just did S/L's even though they could have progressed to freefall!! Thing is, it took 70+ S/L's before Kathy could be cleared for freefall!! Gotta give the Lady an A for Perserverance!! Any So. Cal people know if Kathy is still around?? 11. Hi Keith, About 1/2 way!! Kathy Maholic Jacklin from Elsinore/Perris I believe holds the record with somewhere in the range of "70" +/-10!! Kathy, ante up and tell us!! I remember her telling us at our Instructor/Jumpmaster S/L cert course at elsinore back in '78 I think it was, about her telling us about her delima getting off student status but she perserviered!! and wanted to give back to the sport!! What a Lady!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. Hi Ken, If you were here in Eastern NC, I'd send you over to Barnhill Const. Co., they do road building work, I think they have a lot of spare parts for "Dump Trucks" for sale cheap, that's what yer jumpin' PS, Read and heed "EVERYTHING!!!" that "dpreguy" in the post just above this one says!!!! ...Got that!!! He "TOTALLY" has a handle on the MC-4 and I have observed exactly what he witnessed on every MC-4 flight and landing that I have seen!! I'd rather be jumping my old Stratostar!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi Steve, 'Remember those times from way back when and a few jumpers with an "attitude" like that. I say thankfully only "a few." Havn't heard anyone with a bravado attitude like that on the DZ in ages. There may be some there but fortunately for me they were out of hearing range... or maybe I've just gone deaf from all the airplane noise! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi Scary Larry!!, Sorry to hear your lament!! Since I tore my right deltoid a couple of years ago it sadly put me on the back buner!!I kinda' feel also like my skydivin' daze are done too but I havn't sold my rig....yet!! There may still be a few good jumps in this old coot yet to be had!! Maybe the sport has changed,.....but I havn't!! Blueskyzblackdeathmofo's SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. ... and I don't like it. What do others think? Hi Butts', I concur. Like an old Flyin' thing where pilots would add 5kts above the designated approach speed of their aircraft to avoid stalling on final and burning in for the wife and kids and another 5 kts for "Grandma!!" thus "Grandma speed!!" Go Figure! Get it!!????? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  16. Hi Stew, WTF is it??? Looks kinda like a B-25 or B-26 WWII vintage, the D/F loop on top was common to the era, looks like the L/G was some kind of experiment for landing on inhospitable terrain like snow or sand?? Well the gear worked for takeoff I presume?? Any other takers?/ SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  17. Hi RahRah Sis-boom-bah!! As my buddy Mike "Sparky" Owens would say,"You are not now nor will you ever be "Good Enough" to "Not DIE" in this Sport!!!!!" Got that?? 'Ya need to hook up with "Pecos Parachute School" see Truman for the FJC!! Endorsed by Gardner Barnes and Philip Hicks Esq. "Oh for the simple daze of the 'Gulch!!'" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi JC, Well ya' wanna know?? Yer in the right place. Some time ago Reginald also asked about BSBD and here in the hist & trivia patworks replied to him on June 24, 2010. Pat knows!! Yup, BSBD the yin and yang of Skydiving. Hope this helps you out JC. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi rehmmie, Well then don't worry about the hard hat in the shower, use the frappe hat SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi Andy and PhiltyPhil, Yeah you guys are right, Brain buckets are good things!! They prevent all kinds of death and destruction. But then again the deal is like Tommy and the Cypress, the only time he really needed it to work for him, it wasn't turned on!! it's like the runway behind ya' and the altitude above ya', ain't gonna do ya' a lot of good. 'Better wear yer hard hat in the shower, ya' might fall and bonk yerself into oblivion!! OK, OK, I give up!! I'm calculating the risk I take when I engage in "Scary-chuting!!" Yes it's dangerious and wearing the brainbucket is a good idea. But if jumping is that dangerous that I have to wear a brainbucket all the time, why jump?? Like I said, it's all about "Risk Management!!" It's like I'm comfortable going to 2 grand on the pull, I'm from the old school and that's where we started!! Today all the newbies freak out below 4K!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi Jon and all, What Jon said, what Sparky said and what Jimmy (Airtwardo) said!! I like my good old "Frappe Hat!!" Wear what ya' want, run what ya' brung'!! At least ya' don't have ta' worry too much anymore 'bout gettin' cracked on the noggen since we all replaced our MS22021-1 "Speed links" with "soft links" still beware of high speed flyin' feet in freefall!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. hI HD, First off,"WHO ARE YOU???" Second off,"WHERE DO YOU SKYDIVE???" Now....answer these two questions for starters and maybe we can get you squarred away. 'Havn't been on the Left Coast for a few years but at "Scare-us-Valley and Smell-some-more" we had "load organizers!!" "I was one of them" and who ever wasn't on a load and wanted to skydive with "Other people" hooked up with the "Load Organizer" and "Wa-La" "A STAR is born!!" Now, ... fill in your profile and tell us where you jump and just maybe we can figure this out!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Hi Jim, Yup, ya' watch Fandango and from when the guys pull up to Pacos till they drive off is "Proof!!" There are a few small "changes' but it's almost "word for word!!" Costner replaces the guy from proof who played Gardner Barnes and I think there was a switch on Phil Hicks, Dorman and Truman were right outa' Proof! What a hoot that was!! 'Remember the "First Run" of Proof on 16mm one Sat Night!! Someone got it transferred to VHS and the copies abounded!! 'Don't wanna' think about how many years ago that was......my bones are starting to creek and I'm startin' to feel (that dirty word) "old!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. The Pecos Parachute School was the DZ in Fandango ... 'Big Screen' YouTube documentary of daze gone past. Hi Steve and "Jimmy the Viper," Jimmy has got it!! There was an article about it in Scare-a-chutist a while back. Fandango with Kevin Costner,..now just take the part about Pecos back a notch to "Proof!!" remember that!! Proof was the film short that Spielberg built Fandango around. (Think it was him??) Any way, some years ago some telecommunications majors from UCSB came out to Perris and made a couple of static line jumps. (beginning of story) so when it came time for them to do their end of their degree project, they though they'd do it on skydiving!! Fancy that!! I remember these guys running around the DZ at Perris one sunny day with clipboards asking us skydivers about our experiences, funny stories and "skydiving jokes!!" you know, like,"did you hear the one about the jumper that forgot which pak his laundry was in?? and that's Dave Blatell doing the "Mr. Hicks in freefall" antics!! 'Even used a Perris Valley Student rig and Black Death jumpsuit on the dive!! Got a couple of copies of "Proof" in the archives if the tape hasn't crystalized and fallen apart yet!!!!!.. Always thought that when Truman took off in the Cessna 182 he should have flown "UNDER" the power lines at the end of the runway!! any takers? There's more to the story about "Pecos" this is just starters but I thought I'd kick in the beginning..Add on as required...."Nobody calls a ROTC Colonel a 'Weenie!!!!!'"................................ As for was "Pecos worse than the Gulch??" Pecos was just a "Story!!!!"...The Gulch was,"REAL!!!!!!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  25. Hi Jimmy, 'Just love yer last paragraph,... the whole post really,...."....or could be your memory is fuzzy from all the skydiving you almost did... but either way little bird, might not be the best idea to keep layin' little eggs in a Vipers playground." It is time for Junior Barnes to concede his error!! "Jimmy the Viper" has spoken!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
