  1. Hi "Amazing Amazon," Mostly "Beer Bread." 'Started on Wednesday and made 3 loaves for Peggys' cousins and then 6 loaves on Thurs, Fri and Sat for a bunch of other friends and relatives. Sunday, Christmas, I made 6 more, took 3 to friends and 3 to Kate and Tony's Christmas get-together at Raeford. 'Made that batch with "XX" dark beer, the first loaf was gone in no time after Kate put it on the table!! "Good stuff!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. hI HD, First off,"WHO ARE YOU???" Second off,"WHERE DO YOU SKYDIVE???" Now....answer these two questions for starters and maybe we can get you squarred away. 'Havn't been on the Left Coast for a few years but at "Scare-us-Valley and Smell-some-more" we had "load organizers!!" "I was one of them" and who ever wasn't on a load and wanted to skydive with "Other people" hooked up with the "Load Organizer" and "Wa-La" "A STAR is born!!" Now, ... fill in your profile and tell us where you jump and just maybe we can figure this out!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Jim, Yup, ya' watch Fandango and from when the guys pull up to Pacos till they drive off is "Proof!!" There are a few small "changes' but it's almost "word for word!!" Costner replaces the guy from proof who played Gardner Barnes and I think there was a switch on Phil Hicks, Dorman and Truman were right outa' Proof! What a hoot that was!! 'Remember the "First Run" of Proof on 16mm one Sat Night!! Someone got it transferred to VHS and the copies abounded!! 'Don't wanna' think about how many years ago that was......my bones are starting to creek and I'm startin' to feel (that dirty word) "old!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. shah buddy, 'Ya' gotta' be kidding me!! If yer that hung up on a chick to not even kiss her, get a life!! Never mind the prom dress, I like what airtwardo said in a previous post on the hist and trivia forum,"..they went down faster than a pair of cheerleaders panties on prom nite!!" Forget holding hands, we're talking serious business!! Kinda' reminds of that Mirage add with the gorgeous legs in the pink stilettos and the pink thong around her ankles!! Dream on sukah!! 5. The Pecos Parachute School was the DZ in Fandango ... 'Big Screen' YouTube documentary of daze gone past. Hi Steve and "Jimmy the Viper," Jimmy has got it!! There was an article about it in Scare-a-chutist a while back. Fandango with Kevin Costner,..now just take the part about Pecos back a notch to "Proof!!" remember that!! Proof was the film short that Spielberg built Fandango around. (Think it was him??) Any way, some years ago some telecommunications majors from UCSB came out to Perris and made a couple of static line jumps. (beginning of story) so when it came time for them to do their end of their degree project, they though they'd do it on skydiving!! Fancy that!! I remember these guys running around the DZ at Perris one sunny day with clipboards asking us skydivers about our experiences, funny stories and "skydiving jokes!!" you know, like,"did you hear the one about the jumper that forgot which pak his laundry was in?? and that's Dave Blatell doing the "Mr. Hicks in freefall" antics!! 'Even used a Perris Valley Student rig and Black Death jumpsuit on the dive!! Got a couple of copies of "Proof" in the archives if the tape hasn't crystalized and fallen apart yet!!!!!.. Always thought that when Truman took off in the Cessna 182 he should have flown "UNDER" the power lines at the end of the runway!! any takers? There's more to the story about "Pecos" this is just starters but I thought I'd kick in the beginning..Add on as required...."Nobody calls a ROTC Colonel a 'Weenie!!!!!'"................................ As for was "Pecos worse than the Gulch??" Pecos was just a "Story!!!!"...The Gulch was,"REAL!!!!!!!!!" SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  7. Hi Jimmy, 'Just love yer last paragraph,... the whole post really,...."....or could be your memory is fuzzy from all the skydiving you almost did... but either way little bird, might not be the best idea to keep layin' little eggs in a Vipers playground." It is time for Junior Barnes to concede his error!! "Jimmy the Viper" has spoken!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  10. Hi 57LimaHotel, Funny you should mention that? You call this sport a "Hobby??" To some it may be but.... As for "Knowing when.." I'd have to say at that point about 3 seconds off the strut of Milt Nobels' Cessna 170 when the sound of the plane disipated into the distance, I heard myself counting out loud,"3-THOUSAND!!," and the canopy caught air and opened!! That was it. Already had some gear, a B-4 harness and container, a canopy that I needed to modify, got a sleeve from Ben Seal a few daze later. That was on my 1st jump, 08MAY1964. The rest is history!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. My god man! Not a Stiletto!! And at a w/l of 1.18? Almost certain death. Statistically speaking of course. Hi Marty, heheheheheh, me an my Stiletto........""190!!!"" Really High Speed man!! 'Don't really care 'bout those high speed, screemer landings, my bonz don't bend like they usedta'!! 'Jez thought I'd jerk Marsha's chain for a few laughs!! Looks like I did good! Funny about breaking bonz and canopies, I survived the 7-TU era with only a sprained ankle but did manage to break my tib-fib with a Scare-a-Commander MK-1. 'Nothing more than a few bruises with Ram Airz, an those go back to Strato Scarez!!!! Let ole' ding-a-ling keep rantin' bout all those high speed crashers and I'll jez' keep doin my powder puff toudhdowns with my "HP!!!" Stilletto ""190!!!!"" BTW my old bud Harry Leicher's been gone for a while but the comment he put at the end of his posts still rings true, same for the one by Mike "Sparky" Owens. Ain't none of us gonna get outa this place alive!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  12. You're making an incorrect comparison. The Pinto had a design flaw that prevented it from being safe, even with the best driver. In canopy terms, the Nova was a canopy that was 'unsafe at any speed' in that even the best pilot could not stop it from collapsing. The original Crossfire was similar in that it exhibited a tendency to collapse (though not as bad as the Nova). The Nova went out of production, and the Crossfire has an update issued, and eventually was replaced by the Crossfire II. A Velocity, like I jump, and many other HP canopies do not have design flaws, and can be flown safely be the right pilot. I have jumped every HP canopy on the (US) market over the course of 1000's of jumps without incident. It's not the parachute, it's the pilot. You still have not responded to my quesiton about your actual experience with modern, ZP canopies. If you have none, come forward and admit it. Many of your comments about the nature of modern canopies are incorrect and your arguments are, in turn, also flawed because they're based on those incorrect conclusions. Okay Dave, I admit that I have no experience with modern ZP Canopies. The last canopy I jumped when I gave it away after 2,500 jumps and 20+ years was a Pegasus. I am not putting down your skills or Aggie Dave's. But I am saying that both of you have had an "Oh Shit" moment that you survived by pure dumb luck. (Not now but when you were first learning about HP Canopies) See the table below. Nearly 20 people per year have been killed under HP Canopies and the Velocity is over a third of them. Top 5 w/ number of fatalities per: Velocity 24 Stiletto 12 Sabre2 11 Katana 7 Spectre 7 So how are these stats to be changed? Mentoring doesn't work because otherwise you wouldn't have these stats. Banning these canopies is, realistically, not going to happen unless someone with a really big stick enforces it. (And I can see this happening because what you are doing now is NOT working) So what is to be done? How about MANDATED training before you downsize. (With a qualified trainer) ie before every downsize you MUST attend a training course on that wingloading and specific canopy and pass said course. Until then you CAN'T buy or jump that canopy. This is going to take a lot of co-operation between Gear Manufacturers, Resellers and DZO's (And cost the Manufacturers, Resellers and DZO's a lot of money) This is what Base Jumpers are starting to do to keep totally unqualified people from their sport. So Dave, how are you going to do that and ENFORCE it? As I said earlier, Mentoring doesn't work otherwise we wouldn't be having this argument. Hi Marsha d-s, So you list a rack of canopies that were involved in fatalities and you mention that banning them realistically is not going to happen. Astute observation. So banning these canopies and nopbody gets killed under them, just the next rack of canopies on the list!! Why do you even care who gets killed?? You don't jump any more no way no how!! Well I havn't jumped in a few years after a shoulder injury but now it's pretty well healed and I have enough other stuff settled in my life that I can dust off my "Stiletto" and go jump again, Oh no I cant because you are "Banning them!!" Get serious Marsha!! I will jump my Stiletto and I doubt seriously Marsha that you will stop me, Just Try!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi Diesel, Why?? If you have to ask, don't bother!! 'Made a bunch of night jumps, good times. 'Gotta say, one in particular was "The One!!" 'Freak Brothers '84, Sat night 16 way, 2 points, "You Shoulda Been There!!" Clear night, moon, at the top floor looking down at about 9 or 10 grand was a whisp of a veil of a cloud if you could call it that. The only way you knew it was there was the light of the moon reflecting off the top, but you could clearly see thru it!! 15 other jumpers besides myself and Mike Seismore the potogralpher plus the pilot saw it. All I can say is Why Jump at night?? Glad I did. If you don't want to then don't. You won't be missed. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi Marsha, If the last canopy u jumped was a Pegasus then I wonder why u r doing all this rambling?? That Pegasus is a 220'sq F-111 7-cell!! You've never even jumped a F-111 9-cell and a ZP Eliptical is just a pipe dream to you. So, what's yer point?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hi froggy, Sounds like an 18 wheeler?? 'Usta drive an International 10 speed "Pumpkin" OTR Long Haul big Glass Flat Bed fer Schneider Specialized a few years ago. 'Ya needed all those gears goin thru the East Coast mountains haulin 79,800 lbs. gross on the scales!!! Smoke those brakes and turn on the Jake goin' down hill "HooooBoy!!" __________________________________________________ Peterbuilt, logging truck, drivin 80,000 plus down mountain roads most people wouldn't take their jeep, Hows your Peterbuilt anyway? Hi Froogy, 80,000+ logs ona mountain road, sounds like Maine?? 17. Hi Phil, "Yer comment kinda reminds me of the old daze when Drag Racing was still a "Grass Roots" sport and any one could be a weekend Hot Shot with a $25 junkyard special ...till ya' blew the head gasket at 100mph!! All ya' needed was a stick trans with a good first and second gear, hardly ever got to third in the quarter mile!! Oh yeah, an did ya' have a "Cue Ball" on the end of your shifter?? or a piston?? 'Remember those Ed "Big Daddy" Roth cartoons and carz?? Auto trans were fer yer geeks, nerds and "Jomoma" back then. Didja' have dual glasspak cherry bombs with lakes?? Cruzin' the drive-in on Fri. night "DERDERDERVOOMVOOM" Hey Milner!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi TiaMariaMargarita!!, Sticks up to the last two which were autos. Both are ok so I voted "b00bies!!" Sticks are OK learned on a '51 Dodge with the "slush box" in front of the stick trans, as we called it back then. Currently have a Ford Ranger (auto) and before a Chevy Silverado 1500 V-6 (auto) it was tops. Loved the auto trany for trailering my boat. Get the boat into the H2O and put it in Park, to get it out of the H2O just drop it into 1st and hit the peddle. With a manual ya' have to negoiate the clutch, brake and gas all 3 peddles with 2 feet!! Auto is easier! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi jw, Yup, the water deflation pockets were an add-on later to the design back when. They were called a,"Change 5!!" If you were a Navy Rigger back when the "Change 5" came out all canopies had to have them sewn on at the next repack!! The mod was incorporated into future buys but it took a while to catch up. Lotza' fun!! The Chg 5 came out in the mid 60's some time so the '57 DOM canopy didn't have them. It reached the end of its shelf/svc life in '64 pre-mod. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi Chappie, Yup, that's a 26'NAVCON (Navy Conical) canopy, thus the plugged up apex, note also the reinforcing bands and the lines are zig-zagged to the radials and not continuous like on a 24 flat. Jog this old farts brain a little why don't ya'!!! What ya' tryin to do, cause me to have a brain anurerism?? 'Jez kidding, thanks for showing and telling!! 'Ya gotta' love it. 'Don't think there are any regs that specifically say you "can't" dye a reserve but because of the non professional in a pot on the stove Rit dye jobs tendency to heat degrade the material, oh well!! Most Skydiver-Rit-dyejobs that I remember most didn't last that long!! Had a really nice all white Navy 28' that was dyed really bright pink that I got from Oliver Duncan back in '65, put about a dozen jumps on it before it blew several pannels!! Cut the lines off and gave the canopy to Lee Butler who tacked it to the ceiling in her and Prissy Salleys' apartment in New Orleans!! That was the end of that canopy!! 'Had all kinds of pink 550 line for boot laces and tie-ups in general for quite a while after that!! 'Reminds me of that old Tony Curtis-Cary Grant movie with the Pink Submarine!! 21. Hi Bod, My favorite expression in a situation like this is,"Get me an Engineer and get the Drawing*!!" What ever the ASSY # and or PART # of the piece of equipment for the rig you have will have Drawings (Blue Prints) to show the specs of that piece of gear!! Check it to the Drawing!!! If it looks like and has all the correct webbing, cords and stitching then it should be ok!! That is, providing that QC did their job right!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Been there, done that and got the T-shirt!! (*) Drawing..."Cartoon" as Gordo Foster would say BTW, "IF" the "Change" was incorporatred in Shop and not noted, "THEN" it would behove Manufacturing to get Engineering to "Red Line" the drawing and incorporate the "Change" to the next Change letter on the drawing!! Funny how that goes???? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi Terry, Yup, photo 1 & 2 are the Waters release and #3 is the Air Force release. Rigged bunches of em' on ACES II Ejection seat systems back in my old Douglas Aircraft Daze. Talking about 4-line releases there's still the "Elsinore 4-line release" to mention. It's similar to the Waters but has an additional wrap of the lanyard. Also, the canopy data pannel had to be stamped with an "Approval stamp." SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Hi lek, Think it was "L&R" relesases. Got a set from someone years ago and traded them for a ripcord or something. 'Should be in Poynters Manual. 'Remember Scott Smith some eons ago under a reserve with a set of those that he couldn't get to activate!! 'Seemed when he started pulling the pin the two lines put tension and a side load on the pin and it jammed. 'Required "TWO HANDS" to work, hold slack on the two lines with one hand and pull the release with the other!!!! That's where the lanyard types shine, just grab the lanyard end and pull!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  24. Hi Cap, Rigger rob and councilman are on it! That's the Waters 4-line release and Waters turned it over or what ever to Butler to produce. Great piece of equipment "When it's Rigged Right!!" the ones in the photos are really bad news! Got a couple of pairs in my archives "And" the instructions!! All it takes is being able to "Read, Write,Speak and 'Understand'" the English Language as specified in FAA Part 65 I believe. Had em' set up on my old 26' NAVCON's. Worked great, last time I used one was 09SEP1979 at Scare-us-valley. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
