  1. Hi Chris!!< JTB is on it and so am I!!! "No Shit, There I was, Thought I was gonna Die!!!!!" Sinko-D-Mayo of 1985 in the late afternoon!! The plane was N157Ugly. The story is also wrote up on the History and Trivia forum on Steve1's thread, "Scary stories from the old daze!!" I was in the plane, got the video too, and a box of hardened melted aluminum puddles from where the plane burned up at the end of the "old" runway!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  2. Hi B.S.!!, Naked, summer is the best, at the solstace!!!! Have video of Me, Lizard, Kate Cooper, Tony Dom., Annie Reinert, Jana Logan, Mindy, and Fred Kale on the summer solstace 25 June 1982 over Perris video by Leo (Wally G.) Dickinson . Only got 7 in the star so we missed getting our Bare Ass SCR by a hare!! it was fun though. Go 4 it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  3. Hi Cocheese!!, Sounds like you just got a micro-canopy after spending years under a Strato-Cloud!! Good fun. Tie a long crep-paper streamer to the tail to drag around and give it a little drag. Just don't do any tight loops or tight turns !!!!(I used to do the streamer thing on U-Control models to teach students!!) When your brain catches up to with your thumbs you can cut it loose!! I just got my old Sensoar (2-Meter 2-ch. floater, poly-hedral sail plane back on line!!!) Will be flying this weekend at Raeford with Chucky Blue and Tim Tennant. They have just gotten the bug with a couple of park flyers!! Now to get the gum out of the O.S. 50 FSR on the front of my Sig Cadet and get it started!!! Ohhh that burnt shoe polish smell of glow fuel!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  4. Hi 17, "I just love this Sport!!!!!" Just leave it to a skydiver to do something that "off thewall!!" Although the stripper probably wasn't a jumper, it sounds like he has good jumping "genes" and should be!!! It's gigs like this that have kept me going in this great sport for the last 41 1/2 years and I'll double that if I can!!!!!! Picture the same scenario on a "nekid skydive" on VIDEO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  5. To All, In spite of his failing health, I was hoping he'd pull thru and come back to Raeford again sometime to get escorted around in Gene Paul's Golf cart and just be WHO. Now, he's gone and it is a shock. That Big Star UP-THERE just added another slot. Fly on Bill. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  6. Hi Spark, Yup,that's a Sparky comment!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  7. Hi Lazy, Lets' see? The big ? is,"Do you and/or your cousin 'Really' want to S-K-Y-D-I-V-E!!!!!???" The 1-800-SKYRIDE thing is justyour excuse to find a way out! If you really want to jump, you'd be out at the DZ making jumps instead of talking about it. The "Good Book" has it right,"Many are called, but few are chosen!!" Somewhere in my archives I have an old worn out T-shirt that I got from my old jump buddy Gary Cobb, it just says,"Shut up and Jump!!" Nuff said. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  8. Hi Sid, What a drag, Don is gone. That Star up there just added another slot. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  9. Hi Doc J., Back in the "Bad ole' Daze" dumping a case of beer on a green horn who just got his (her) SCR would have amounted to a sacrilidge of the highest degree. Beer is for drinking!!!! Ya' shouldda' poured Kool-Aid or somthin' like that on him!!!! PS, Anyone remember, "Cardinal Puff?????" SCR-2034 SCS-680 SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  10. Hi GM, Sure I'd jump there,.....if the DZ owner furnished the AAD's or gave me the money for one. I havn't had oneall these years and I think that I can get along fine without one . The new generation has grown upon Ram Air Canopys, AFF and AAD's. All this good stuff was still on thedrawing board in the "Bad Old Daze!!" Mind you, we dreamed of "the day when" we wouldn't crash into the ground under C-9's, and now thatday is here!! But the more things change, the more they remain the same. In spite of having canopys that can give us powder puff landings, people still get hurt and killed under good canopies. And, although I know of no known incident where a turned on properly maintained AAD has failed there is something else that bugs me about the situation. That is where people are rabid about not jumping without one!! The attitude that Iam safe because I have an AAD!! Sure you are. Although they don't require AAD's (yet?) I like Perris' recent policy of grounding you if you get stupid enough to have your AAD go off while you are having too much fun,....at 750'!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  11. Hi md, Creame pies and Cardinal Puff----for the 3rd and final time!!!! Who knows?? Creme pies definitely go back to the days of slapstick comedy silent movies and maybe beyond!! Cardinal Puff, at least games like Cardinal are suppose to date back to at least "Roman" times?? Who knows, the romans didn't skydive and if they did they kept it a good secret!! I started jumping in '64 and didn't hear or see any "Pie flinging" until the early 70's at Elsinore. Then people were getting pied for anything!! No one was safe, nothing was sacred!!! Just remember, the "Only" rules in getting pied are "Jungle Rules!!!!!" "And," you have to make them up as you go along because, there are really,"No Rules!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. Hi Judith, It's a laugh and a joke about gettin' old, now I'm gettin'there!!!, turned 60 this year!! Any way, funny about all these storys about gettin' old and,"losing it!!" Well, my brother-in-law's dad died a couple of years ago at the ripe old age of 99! He came down with some minor condition that was "misdiagnosed" and what ever they did in the hospital, it killed him!! S.A.T. Any way he was living in a residence place for seniors, got around on his own, had a sharp mind, was constantly pinching ladies on the butt, and generally acting like an old skydiver!! (he wasn't though) Jim, my brother-in-law said that in his room he had a half a fifth of good whiskey and a box of good cigars. Like this dude was carrying on like he didn't know he was 99!!! Right on!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  13. Hi Sid, Thanks for the info on B.B.'s B'day! Got to see him here in Fayetteville NC back in Dec., great show!! Happy B'Day B.B.!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  14. Hi Mikey!!! R-I-P-C-O-R-D!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Far out man!! I love this thread!! Those were the daze!! Ripcord was already into re-runs when I got to Ca. in late '67 but the guys that did the jumping and filming were still around and into other stuff.. The "Ripcord" laughs and gaufaws over Cardinal demos at Dicky and Marilyn's as well as Cardinal Frank's "Rumbleseat Tavern" still live vividly in my brain!! Al-K-hammer disease??? What's that?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  15. Hi all, From this old fart skydiver from the ol' Cottonbelt Council Daze my best to all!! The South shall rise again!!!! 'Gonna be one hell of a survivors boogie!! What ever it takes, $$$, manpower or whatever to keep this DZ on the charts, I'm committed. Just keep me posted and I'll do what I can!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out

  17. Hi 8619, Iwas 18 then and am 60 now. Got jumps in each calendar year inspite of wars, wives, $$$$, DZ politics, injurys, and you-name-it!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  18. Hi Steve 1, A big 10-4 to you. Whether it was a factor or not about newbie's lack of respect for older jumpers that contributed to Jerry B's quitting is a moot point. However, newbie's lack of respect for old timers in this or any other sport has more to do with the attitude of newbies in question than any thing else. Not all newbies are that callous but the ones that are think they are immortal and forget that Old Father Time waits for no man and their day may only be a wake up away!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  19. Hi Jim, Sorry about your friend. 'Been thinkin about this thread. The thing is that the newbies are just that, newbies!! They can go upside-down and jump a teene weenie handkie all they want!! The Sport has ALWAYS been dangerous and will never be perfectly safe. Technology has given us "better" gear and neat things like AAD's but that stil doesn't make the newbie invincible!! The bottom line is like I skydive to please "ME!!!!!!!!!" I still have a bunch of friends who I can jump with no matter which DZ we're at. Let the newbies do their thing, their trench digging escapades are good for a laugh or two at beer 30. I'll just keep floatin' around under my Stileto 190 (LARGE by today's standards!!) and do standard RW (upsidedown stuff gets me dizzy unless I'm in a max-track!!) so there you have it. Ya' gotta maintain some kinda good sense of humour like Grandpaw Pettibone in the rockin' chair on the POPS Logo. Keep on keepin' on!! AAD? What AAD?? Argh', Jim 'Harghkin'!!!!' Oh for the daze of Big Orange and White candystriped parachutes and Iron Men!!' back when women were proud of it and sheep were very, very nervous!!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  20. Hi Larry, When'sthe next "Air Trash Song Night" at the Bar?? SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  21. Hi John, From the looks of the tail, it hasa stackof pancakes so that'sa dead giveaway for a rattler. One thing about snakes, seems like they resemble their surroundings a lot. I don't know if it's dumb luck or natural selection (Darwin stuff??) Cute kid, glad youl let him go. SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  22. Hi Dave, 10-4 for sure on the CH-46 Navy/Marines!! HMM-161 (I think) on the USS Okinawa LPH-3 WESTPAC-70 got to snag a few hops at Casselejos X-C the bayfrom Subic!! a few posts back, I made note of the hops, what fun!! John Painter got the pilots to "take 'er up!!" and we were on jump run at 15K!!! Me, John, this Marine #2 Lt. with 15 jumps, PR-1 McKinnis and me!! MjrMassey, the sqdn CO said (or so we found out afterwards) that regs. said we could only do static line hops for sport from Military A/C. Boy were we surprised?? Dude, like we did 15K!! The joke is on him, where ever he is. Boy would I ever love to confront him today with the info about our jump, heheheheheh!!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  23. Hi Steve, Twardo, Sparky, Green;light, Nick, and all others!!, 'Was just sittinin front of the tube, drinkin' a Jim Beam and coke and watchin' "Pulp Fiction" at the part where Uma OD's snortin' Vince's Smack (thinkin' it was coke!!!!!!) and what a rush!!!! "Say somthin'!" "Gack, cough, Somthin'!!!!!!!!!!!!" and I got to thinkin' 'bort the bad old daze when we did a lot of really crazy shit and we ain't dead yet!! Ma alki-hammer desaeaese comes and goes but I still remember!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Back a couple of cases of Beer ago about 1975 down at McDonaldland aka Borderlands Airsports Center at O-die Ca, we jumped outa Mack's Beech 18 (The DC-3 was still a ways off!!) One of the DZ HotShots, Spence, got into trouble with the law bringing in some of Mexico's finest and got popped with a big haul!! Quantity TBA but it was enough to get him some serious slammer time. He was first in Lompoc for a while but between Mac and some friends, we got him moved to Camp Barret out east of the DZ and we jumpers and his family could easily go visit him on weekends!! One sunday after lunch a bunch of us jumpers went to visit Jim and then went back to the DZ. On the next dive, someone suggested we go fly over Camp Barrret and give them a good old fashioned "Buzz Job!!" wich we did!! As the Beech 18 peeled off and came in low over the camp (just like inthe John Wayne movies) the pilot throttled back for a second or two and a bunch of us yelled out the door,"HEY SPENCER!!!!!!!!" and we went on. Several months later when Spence got out, he said that really got to him that we thought that much about him!!! He said the guards even realized that he had "Real Friends!!!" Even though we could've gotten into big trouble, nothing happened. Spence got out and we Skydived a bunch. Those were the daze. Today god knows, we'd probably get shot for terrorists if we tried something like that. But thebottom line is that if you have a good buddy in jail, yougotta' let him know you care!!!!!!!!!!!
  24. Hi Air Girl 24, Skydiving lady?? She can cook, pack and repair parachutes, skydives and owns a Bar!! PS. Please enclose photo of Bar!! SCR-2034, SCS-680 III%, Deli-out
  25. Hi JB, The observer dude following out the RW load also happened at Otay outa Mack's Polish (right side door) DC-3. Some dude wanted to skydive and not pay the price for the FJC!! He took quite a delay and dumped the observer rig (either a B-4 or Navy NB-8) and got a jolt when it opened. Roger Worthington and Ed Lockout may have been there and can give more details.
