  2. Funny, it didn't seem that long ago that the tall skinny one was curious about some fat bloke jumping a suit at Picton. The circle has fully turned. Ha ha, I love aussie humour. Any, job well done in India. Congrats, Ronald Overdijk

    Fatality in Norway

God damn it. Rest in peace Coombes. Condolences to family, friends and the oz base community. Ronald
  4. Well done Johan. He is the guy with the big balls who jumped freefall inside a cathedral. I jumped the ET for dutch TV myself 1 time so who am I to blame him The only thing I blame him about it that I met him monday and he did not tell me anything. But, king of the ET? I know a frenchy who jumped it 34 times... Ronald Overdijk
  5. Hi Jasmin, El tiempo pasa muy rápido. Mándame un PM y te contaré todos mis secretos y contactos en Argentina. Un abrazo fuerte, Ronald
  6. http://video.uk.msn.com/...&f=&fg=email Hmmm, news can be fast, and news can be slow. I did a post about the same jump april 21st. "cave jump venezuela". The item I saw showed quite a realistic interview with Nicolas. No bragging or such, a far cry from the usual RB stuff. By the way, Argentina is very nice country, nice people, good food, perfect nature (few high base sites though). And, for the men, if you have cruised Avenida Santa Fe in Buenos Aires on saterday morning, you have seen the most beautifull women in the world....speechless. Las Malvinas son argentinas! Ronald
  7. Let's just hope they - NPS - will not increase fines on caught base jumpers in order to make up the budget deficit.... The police in Holland works with quota: they need to reach a certain number of busts, fines, etc. in order to be "efficient". So much for the "managers" who convinced our ministery of justice that this was a good idea to "measure" the quality of our police force. Ronald Overdijk
  8. Actually, it is more like 270 meter. Ronald

    Cave jump Venezuela

Just on www.zoomin.tv, video " gevaarlijke basejump in venezuela". Base jump by Nicolás Lopes in a cave in the Jaua Sarisariñama National Park in Venezuela. Hight 350 meters. Landing zone in the jungle, quite small. Off course, the trip was sponsored by Red Bull. Aparently, Felix is out . Or maybe he was too scared to do it after his unstable exit from the Mexico City Building? Anyway, to repeat the jump is expensive as the Park is extremely remote: check out http://www.venaventours.com/parques.htm or just google it. Even the Lonely Planet Guide book mentions this region as full of caves, being inverted Tepuys (like Angels Falls, Mount Roraima and Kukenán). Njoy, the world is getting bigger and bigger! Ronald
  11. Valery Rozov jumped Amin Brak (Pakistan) in 2004, it's on his second video Russian Extreme Project. He told me it was one of the scariest jumps he made. He had to clear a ledge after 4 or 5 seconds and drop tests where not very convincing. Anyway, he cleared the ledge. Trango Tower was jumped wingsuit by a French jumper summer 2005. It's in Paramag. About cliffs in Pakistan in general. Yes, they are extremely remote. But, there are helicopters. The downside it you need to register as an expedition in Islamabad (which means, apply for a climbing permit way ahead and pay lots of $$) and then they might send a chopper in case of trouble (weather and availiabillity permitting). Also, having spent several weeks there (northern pakistan), lots of cliffs, but not so many jumpable ones. They all tend to be underhung (with exceptions of course). A cheaper option would be to check mountaineering / bigwall climbing site. Just my 2 cents, Ronald Overdijk
  12. Congratulations! But I would never jump like that myself, PC on the ground between lots of branches... Go on like that and you might not get any record again. Ronald Overdijk

    Waterfall Peru

I'm on a slow connection right now so I'll have to wait to check it out. If it's the waterfall I am thinking about, and there aren't all that many in Peru, then all I have to say is that its already been jumped back in say 1992 I wonder if it has been jumped in 1992. It has only been discovered in 2002! So, check it, I would say. The name is Gocta. Ronald Overdijk
  14. Like in any major city in the world, Delhi and Bombay are building a lot. So there must be buildings, with cranes next to them, high enough to jump. Prroblems: third world ones, loads of people around, and they never sleep.... Good luck, Ronald

    Waterfall Peru

Yep! On the national TV news yesterday in Holland. They have found a new waterfall in Peru, 771 meters. A German had found it in 2002 but only now they succeeded in getting images through a Peruvian TV crew. If you go to http://www.nos.nl/jeugdjournaal/voorpagina/index.html and then in the pink field "laatste uitzending" you can see it. It is two step waterfall, but from what I see there is at least a 500 meter vertical drop. It is very remote, off couse. Who will jump it first? The Peruvians say in 2008 there should be tours going there. They also said that it was the 3rd highest waterfall in the world. 1 Angel Falls, OK. But 2 was a surprise to me. it is supposed to be in South Africa. Never heard of that one. Any info? Anyway, Peru is a nice country so it's 1, 2, 3... Ronald Overdijk
  16. Atmodude jumped a crane there during the world FF record attempt Ronald Overdijk
  17. Hi Koos, If GoFast goes there, think of me please I have 4 jumps in Brazil (Fortaleza and Brasília), an I can arrange access if need be. Ronald
  18. If I am not mistaken, a french guy went for a commercial to Greenland, to jump a glacier. It flows down into a fjord, and the exit point is from the edge of the ice, above the water. Hight, about 70 meters. Yes, there are glaciers big like that. It did not work out the first time, bad weather. They went again in 2005, but I did not hear anything about the result, being OK or no. Anyway, glaciers big like that tend to break near the edge. Must be REALLY scary to stand on top of a glacier. Ronald Overdijk.

    Thailand

That would be nice. Send me a PM if you want. I don't have your e-mail address. Ronald Atmodude: pattaya might be nice for jumping, but the place stinks, to many (sex) tourists... and you were one of them?

    Vrank's BASE edit

Good old Frank! He showed this tape to me some years ago before we went for some jumps in Holland. Did you meet him in Barcelona? Some people, like Yuri, just travel, and just jump Ronald

    Thailand

Hmm, I will be in Thailand july 17-august 12. With my wife and son though and with public transport, so I don't feel about carrying my rig for a month for just 1 or 2 jumps. Anyone to meet at that time, with a rig I could borrow....? Or maybe the local Thai can provide one Ronald Overdijk

    NL base jump clip

Sorry to post is so late, but still worth it, I guess. On dutch national (Ned 1, 2 and 3) TV several clips were shown relating the dangers of igniting fireworks compared to some "extreme" sports. The sports I saw were bicycle downhilling (filmed very nice from a helicopter) and, yes, base. Both clips were shot in South Africa, the bicycle part around table mountain, and the base part on a Cape Town building (downtown) In the base clip a big mentor "helps" a student on exit. The student is obviously quite scared, sweating a lot (close-up), and there is a POV shot him looking down on the edge. Then, just before he is ready to go, the mentor tells him that when is about to ingnite fireworks, that is much more dangerous than base jumping. Then he jumps. (he really jumps, no IT crap. No deployment is shown for about 1,5 seconds). The the screen goes black to text: "there are more accidents with fireworks than with base jumping". (of course, the latter is true absolute speaking, no relatively....) Check out: http://www.extreme-fireworks.nl/ and http://www.veiligheid.nl/csi/websiteveiligheid.nsf/wwwAssets/6B5AF70021CF953BC12570CE004A592D/$file/Consument%20%26%20Veiligheid%20-%20Downhill%20-%20Er%2030s.wmv According to the official dutch government consumer and safety board, the clips were a huge success because the target group (youth) could imagine itself doing both, and compare the dangers. The success of the clips is such that the downhill version will be shown january 13th 16.55 hours local time, at MTV credits, showing the top 3 of favorite youth commercials. I do not know who the base jumpers are. They contacted some dutch people, but decided on foreigners instead. South Africans? Anyway, it shows - again - base is becoming more mainstream, and used more and more on TV. Ronald Overdijk
  23. Yes Jaap, it was NOS jeugdjournaal, aired 18.45 local time, january 2nd. Greetz, Ronald
  24. Gary's record was shown for about 3 minutes on Dutch TV, youth news. Very nice indeed. Well done! Ronald Overdijk

    2005 BASE Awards

I also want to add 3 new categories; - best low pull (also here you must survive the jump but it’s allowed to get hurt) - best wingsuit pilot - biggest balls I want to nominate Johan Vervoort from Belgium for the biggest ball, doing the freefall jump inside the Belgium Cathedral. Pull to high, you're dead, pull to low, you're dead. Check out basejumperguydotcom. Ronald Overdijk
