If you are in New Zealand do some climbing or something else for a while and see if you miss jumping. Maybe you should take a break from working jumps and funjump for a while before you burn out too badly? Just a thought from a weekend jumper. Good luck with it. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  2. We snapped a picture with our Blackberries and attached it in an email. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  3. So you can't see any space between this and berating, belittling, or humiliating people just because you are in a position of authority? Respect is a fairly broad area that is between there if you relax and look for it. If you aren't allowed to learn in the course shouldn't you say it is a rating to start learning again since he wasn't interested in teaching you anything there. I hope you had some good instructors at your dz to learn from then. I know I did but what about candidates from smaller dzs? Just a few thoughts on the matter from a guy who spent six years in the Marines. I believe there is a place where your attitude can be helpful but teaching civilians sport skydiving isn't it in my opinion. Cheers "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  4. I watched and thought it seemed the dancing scenes must have been done to something else at first. Then I watched a couple of the soul dancing competition clips and realized they all seem to be trying use the same basic dance moves. It wouldn't matter if the music was polka. After all the fox trot is still the fox trot it wouldn't matter if you were dancing to Aerosmith. I still don't think it compiments skydiving but that is just my opinion. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  5. I bought one for my wife a few years ago and it came with this poorly photocopied page all folded up in the box. After about six months of intermittent problems and a few frustrating emails to the manufacturer I bought her a Pro Track. I still have the fx because my conscience won't let me unload it on a fellow jumper. It could be the case that mine is a lemon but the fact remains the manufacturer never offered to check it out for me so I don't really know. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  6. Phil may not have sugar coated his response but I have to agree. Too many transitions are tedious to watch and ultimately take away from the video. On a positive note I thought several of the clips were entertaining. I think I would have saved the funnel for later instead of first but it isn't my art anyway now is it. Keep making these little videos and they are bound to evolve. Now to the point of the thread.....That music really blows chunks but that is just my opinion. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  7. Make that 3 sold! I also wanted to let you know the red Flat Top Pro is working out great. Thanks again. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  8. Now that is funny!! I love vegetables...they are what food eats. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  9. Are you really a flight instructor? If I were your flight student and being this hard on myself would that make it easier or more difficult to teach me to fly? First I would like to say that many people in your thread have given good advice. I believe some of it is going into too much detail and should be left to your instructors. Every solution does not apply to every student and they will overwhelm you if you allow it. Two things come to mind I am sure your instructors will agree with for any student and you probably would agree for flight instruction as well. First you need to relax and breath. How much more difficult is it to fly if you are white knuckled on the yoke? Second you need to stop trying to evaluate your own performance. If you perceive a screw up during a dive flow it can take so much of your attention that you can't complete the next step resulting in a snowball effect. Whatever happens you need to proceed with conviction. If you are altitude aware and alert and responsive there is nothing your instructors can't help you with. That being said, if you are so concerned about stability on exit that you get all stiff and spend half the skydive "potato chipping" you will likely find the dive to be over before accomplish much. We as instructors do not expect or look for perfection. Some of the most natural students make me nervous because sooner or later they will find themselves in a stressful situation and if it doesn't happen before they finish their student dives they may have to deal with it alone. Think of a toddler learning to walk who never lost his balance. Sooner or later he is going to fall. All that early practice catching hi balance can really soften the blow. I often tell students who are a little too tense that a requirement for advancement is to smile at least once every jump. I make sure I am smiling from the door to opening and it really does help you relax so you can fly. Don't give up and stop over critiquing your progress. Also limit the advice you take right now to the advice that you get from instructors. Sutdent procedures are simplified for a very good reason. Blue skies and enjoy the ride. 10. Sure looks that way, and it seems they have higher standards to boot. Maybe they learn more slowly so have to build in extra time... Just kidding but flame away if you must "... this ain't a Nerf world."

  14. Haha. I get it. How many steps are involved in your cutaway system anyway? I would skip flipping the latch forward and just release the ratchet and pull the bone back... That could shave off 400 feet or more under stress. Everyone should practice whatever method is available to get rid of an entangled helmet. If you find your self in the s#!* you need something to keep you busy anyway. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  15. What percentage of the sky can that mirror see at one time? How many seconds do you spend looking? Do you still wave off before you deploy? I can tell you are putting thought into your decision but personally, I agree with the others that the effort would be better spent on developing an effective and flat track. The time you spend with your hand up wouldn't count for much and if you look at it while you should be braking then you are not loosing speed effectively and risk a harder opening than necessary. I also see the potential for a false sense of security. It is always good to see jumpers thinking things through. Edited to add: Billvon beat me to some of this. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  16. More than 1500 Rodriguez Brothers might disagree with you. You can combine yellow and red as long as you are having fun and there is tequilla to be had. www.rodriguezbrothers.com Look around for us when you are ready to join in and have some fun. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  17. I am opposed to encouraging very low time jumpers to do this. They are still perfecting an effective and relatively straight track. If they are with a medium sized group and veer off heading very much it is asking for trouble. Not to mention shortening a track that is usually fairly short to begin with. What if someone is below you and you miss their wave off during your barrel roll? There are a lot of variables here and I have no reason to doubt you when you say it is warranted in the situations you described but I don't think it is something everyone should start doing. I feel it is safer to track harder and carefully scan ahead and below you for unexpected company. I do teach to look over each shoulder as you are waving but it is a fairly quick glance. Your mileage may vary. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  18. I have never visited your site before but it seems full of info. I will have to spend some time filtering through it. Thanks "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  19. This came from an earlier post from Judy. The club idea was brought up by others as a possible exception. It doesn't sound to me like it is a club. I don't have much practice interpreting the FAA regs but if it states the pilot must pay for at least half of the fuel at their own cost I am not sure how club membership qualifies on its own. If every member pays the equivalent of half the fuel that would make for an expensive club. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  20. I had a similar problem on a TRV18. I think the code was 31-22 or 31-23. I googled it a few different ways and got a load of message boards of people swearing that if you strike the left (screen) side of the camera firmly in your palm it would start working again. I kept searching for a better understanding before I started banging on my camera. A fellow videot, Shaggio Rodriguez told me he had the same problem and read the same stuff. I am not a camera tech but I am mechanically minded so I started poking around. ***Warning---Proceed at Your Own Risk*** I have included a couple of pictures. There is a rubber covered roller on the right side in the loading tray that seems to be held in place by a small piece of plastic tubing. Some of these little bushings are black and others are white. If this comes loose the tape will not load correctly and the error will result. It may be fine at first and then when you try to record later, such as on exit, the error may occur then. **If you bend the loading mechanism the camera is beyond my abilities so don't force any part to go where it does not want to go. My camera was useless as it was so I went ahead and dove in. If you can see the little piece I am talking about you might consider applying gentle pressure toward the roller to seat it. ( On my camera it is hard to get your finger in there but if you open the camera and then remove the battery you can squeeze the little tape holder closed without the tray moving back into the camera. Then I gently reach in with my finger and seat the bushing(tubing). If the little piece of tubing and or the roller itself is missing you have bigger problems. I took mine out completely to see how it all works and I recommend not doing that. I proceeded to drop it inside my camera and spent the next hour and a half in the video room performing surgery. I don't know if anyone actually won the pool because I don't think anyone expected the camera to work again. It is now my back up camera and I bought another just like it on ebay as my primary. And yes, everything on the old camera works but I had to reassemble it 3 times to get all the little ribbons of wires correctly aligned. Good luck. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  21. Quote -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- In Reply To ----------------------------------------------------- If your bridle is always twisted like hell after the opening is just because your kill line is too short. ----------------------------------------------------- If your PC is spinning up, your kill line is probably too long ie not collapsing completely. If it's too short, you wont be able to set it all the way and may get a PC in tow or other problems. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Conflicting info Yeah, then I added a third possibility with the added turbulence from flying in brakes. If I could only see the airflow, I would understand a little better what is going on, huh? "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  22. Welcome to the lovely world of skydiving.
  23. That is a great question but it has been beat to death on here. Search the forums for "exit order" and if you still have questions you can explain your position and the people here will try to help. At the end of the day you exit in the order the dzo and pilot agree on or you have the right to take your business elsewhere. There is one fine dz that I only attend for certain events because of this. When there I follow their rules. Peace, Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  24. How exactly do you avoid your jump pilot? If you go to another dz, what about friends and innocent first timers who jump there. Let's change that from someone selling drugs at the dz to someone doing drugs during jumping. Is your response still going to be the same? Grey areas are always that....grey. What would be the obstacle of a qualified private pilot getting his commercial license? Is there a chance an unqualified pilot could give an insurance company an opportunity not to pay even if it may not have contributed? I am thinking in cases where life insurance doesn't allow flying with a private pilot. I don't have these answers myself. I would only likely learn them the hard way. Do you know the answers for sure? In a society where a fast food place can be sued for serving hot coffee in a drive through, we have to take extra care to cross our t's and dot our i's. If anyone doesn't like that (and I don't) they may as well get over it. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  25. LMAO I happen to agree completely with Stratostar on this but I am not sure you understood what he said. If you will read it again you will see he agrees with going to the FAA on this. He was bashing the people who attack anyone who stands up against unsafe practices. I understand your willingness to fly in anything going but what if someone you love goes to make a tandem? I think people have a right to expect a professional operation. I have been in 1 full-blown stall and I am very grateful to have had a qualified pilot at the controls. If the pilot in this case is qualified let him prove it and earn the ratings. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
