  1. Who knew I'd find so many record holders at the Farm? I mean hey, I met "WORLD RECORD HOLDER" Tom Hayden on my first visit. "Let them eat cake" "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  2. This sounds like solid advice. Thanks "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  3. Is micduran going to be there for 4 days or is she going to ditch us again for a baseball game? At least she left Dave but when I needed a 4th for a hot 4-way with two low timers what good is Dave? I mean I like him but can he be stable on his belly? Hehe, I better go hide behind Nadia now... "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  4. I am going to pay whatever it costs to get my reserve packed. That being said my rigger doesn't inspect my main. I do that myself and tend to keep it with me when I drop off my rig to be repacked. All that really leaves to wear in between is the harness and container right? I have been teetering on the brink of getting my own ticket anyway. I prices get high enough that would be incentive right?
  5. The following is based solely on what I have read here. I am also assuming that since I seem to recall you saying you saw a Dr. that nothing is broken and your injuries are limited to a sprained ligament. Think of a ligament as a limiting cable. If you stretch it and/or tear some fibers it is a sprain. It is not contractile and will never shorten again without surgery so that is why it is easier to reinjure. You have to keep the stabilizing mucles strong to be the new limiters. As it heals your body lays down scar tissue in every conceivable direction. (picture patching a hole in a sock) What has to happen during the reformation process is that through use and stretching you break the fibers that are binding the ligament in directions that are not usefull while allowing the scar that is fiber direction to get stronger. The sooner you do this in the "reformation" phase, the less future issues you will have. My advice is to find a Massage Therapist that specializes in medical massage or pain management or even some sports massage therapists. While discussing this with them you are looking to hear them discuss "Deep Transverse Friction" which is a method of applying direct heavy pressure specific to the scarring ligament and basically roll it side to side until you can no longer feel it. (yes, a competent massage therapist should be able to palpate the scarring in the effected ligament.) This is not a muscle or tendon so the pain threshold isn't as important as it is in most massage where you are interacting with the central nervous system. I only do this work after I numb the area with an ice cup and have had phenomenal results. It is usually accomplished in one or two visits and once the adhesion is dealt with the effects are usually felt, or rather not felt almost immediately. I do relaxation massage as well but I prefer things like this that make a real difference in quality of life. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  6. I don't plan on putting much energy into an absurd thread like this but there are two boogies I was quite fond of that will never happen again due to "black eyes". 1 Dublin, GA due to double fatality "black eye" 2 Keys Boogie due to brain fart power line collision "black eye" And am I the only dz staffer to still have people coming up to me talking about someone fell out of there harness last month in Ohio or something to that effect with various timelines and locations. It has reached urban legend status as far as I can tell. I am glad we jump Strong tandems because when I point out the Y mod that usually satisfies them and they talk about other stuff. These high profile black eyes are embarassing to me whether they hurt the sport in a way we can measure or not. If you choose to land a questionable canopy at the dz just land away from everyone else and good luck. To do it in proximity to spectators is negligent in my opinion. If it had worked out I never would have heard about it but I still would have thought it an unecessary risk. This is just my opinion on limited facts. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  7. I am glad to hear you are coming this time. I have been wondering where you were for the fourth. I think that was the only disappointing part of the boogie for Nadia and I.
  8. Some of those guys still have the same haircut! "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  9. Does that mean you arecsending your brother the chef in your place?
  10. You probably think Relative Work ( it doesn't matter if it is belly, vertical or canopy relative work) is fun too!! It is Relative Work not relative fun. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  11. The heck you're not! Nadia and I need coaching. I heard a rumor Ian is going to ditch me again. Something about canopy nationals or something? Tell him I don't give up that easy. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  12. Hey Chuck, you have any openings? I want to work for you dude. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  13. You need to take a breath and get over this whole train of thought. You could have a question that is really important. Worse case you find out how important in a malfunction with no one who can help you. Look around the dz and identify the riggers and instructors. Watch them interact with others and you will probably decide easily who you are the most comfortable asking these questions. Try using different search phrases here and just fish around for info but then you need to verify that the hear say is valid either with someone qualified at the dz or some of the senior members on here that you trust from their prior posts. Shoot them a pm and if you are nice they will be too. (moderators are always a safe bet but they get kind of busy sometimes.) Good luck and stay safe, Robin "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  14. If you update your profile with jump #s canopy/wl etc you will get better advice. It is a great, somewhat older compilation of experts discussing malfunctions/responses. It is complete with video of both. I have still never seen a picture of a line over or down plane that do them justice. Malfunctions are dynnamic. I like this video better than all the beerlight discussions a lot of info comes from. Verify hearsay with instructors, etc that you know and trust. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  15. I'm sorry, I am eating breakfast and a little milk shot out of my nose when I read that. No offense intended it is just that most of this doesn't help us non lawyers unless we can pay a competent attorney to tell us how it works. I love you guys when I need you though.
  16. Are you worried tha Key West and the gulf coast can't handle the competition? That isn't actually SC's ad but belongs to a (UK?) travel company that proudly states "Amro is a 100% gay owned travel company that has hand-picked, specially selected travel ideas, hotels and destinations - saving you time, guesswork and uncertainty. " Who knows, attract enough tourists and they might drop the state income tax. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  17. Did you create a new (empty) login just post a trollish comment like this? Bored much? "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  18. Hey Andy, did that leave a mark? OUch As for helping with the youngsters go, I had a blast jumping with a few of your newer jumpers. You guys seem to be putting out a high quality group this year. They are eager to improve. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  19. LOL I think he thinks you were saying you have been bitten 3 times yourself. I took your statement to mean you were having to deal with the fallout of others being bitten. Which is it? "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  20. I started trying it but with tight leg straps it is hard enough to slip my rig to my shoulders I can't really see that happening following a cutaway. I don't hink it is relevant with my current gear. If I am borrowing something that fits poorly I suppose it could. After reading the speculation that he was using his left hand to keep the canopy flying straight that raises two other possible actions. One would be to watch the reserve handle to see where it goes as you would using the 2 hands per handle method. The other would be to put a hand on each handle if that is your procedure and just cut away from the hard turn. People do that all the time with spinning mals so it seems to work. My disclaimer: all of this is food for future thought and not intended to condemn actions in a situation I don't know for fact all the details. I am not sure of the ridicule you mention but I appologize for it. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  21. You can count me and Nadia in as friends of The Farm for sure. I spoke to her on the phone earlier because in Switzerland it is already her birthday. Even with all that going on, all she could talk about was what a great time we had with you guys and girls. I think she was hinting that moving the home dz would not be a hard sell to her. Either way I am sure you are stuck with us from time to time. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  22. It was way funnier the other way! "Society screwed up when we took small parts out of children's toys. Any kid who swallows too many marbles should not grow up to have marble eating kids!" George Carlin maybe? "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  23. Ding, ding, ding! We have a winner! Keep skydiving until the slider is down. Line twists while even in the harness don't dive. Now allow them to twist with a harness turn input and you better hang on if it is a responsive canopy. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
  24. I don't care who you are, that's funny. I bring a dog to the dz. At my home dz she stays in the camper but at the farm she was tied between my car and my tent. I walk her strictly on a leash and have a poop bag dispenser on that leash. No one should have to step in my dog's crap or chase it out of the hanger. I agree that dogs are usually worse than owners will admit to. There are exceptions but it is still mostly true. "... this ain't a Nerf world."
