  1. Hi im Calvin and im scared of water.
  2. If you want a crazy Aerodynamics answer, keep reading... Any kind of suspension-ramair canopy such as skydiving canopies and paragliders/powered parachutes have an EXTREMELY pitch Stable characteristic when compared to all other forms of aircraft. Pitch stability, can easily be modeled as a ball rolling back and forth in a bowl... If something is pitch stable, the bowl will not allow the ball the roll out of it, when disrupted (stallsurge) it will roll back and forth until it lays dormant in the middle of the bowl. Ram air suspension canopies have bowls with very steep sides, so they recover quickly(small, highly loaded canopies have the same, just less steep) Basicaly this means that when you disturb the canopies dormant (level) flight, it will speed up to faster than its dormant flight on recovery(speed and lift are less than needed to sustain flight), then slow down (because speed/lift are in exess, therefor work is done against gravity) to below its dormant flight after its dive(, and again will gain speed above its dormant flight... Thereticaly this cycle will continue, but keep getting smallerin value, but with the inefieciency of skydiving canopies, it becomes unoticeable after 1 or 2 cycles. BUT.... of course the whole point of this stall/surge teqnique is not to give more forward speed but to give less (as in 0) vertical speed at the right moment when landing. So, if the canopy is effeicient enough to use this excess forward speed to produce enough lift and not break the students legs... then we are good. SOOOO.... to answer the question, from an aerodynamics perspective, i would say the stall/surge method is a functional teqnique for landing a parachute... especialy when using risers for canopy acceleration is not a great option.

    Running exits

Running is more fun and beautiful... when your just standing there you can see everything, and its not a big surprise when it jus starts moving, you jump and you start falling. but when you RUN... its as if you get all this speed running, and as you leave the object you get an explosion of ground/cliff/exit point visuals... and then with this added relative motion, (and freinds, its ALL about relative motion) you start to get ground rush. (after a flip maybe, flips are cool) I love running exits -SPACE-
  4. So... I just got my new glider in the mail, started paragliding again because i liked swooping... i havent paraglided in a few years but the swooping is a lot better than i can get from skydiving canopies... this film is pretty sick, the best swoops are in the first 3 minutes. i hope the clicky works... if not copy it. seriously cool. The crew is mainly the GIN aerobatics team ?(cool guys), but there are a bunch more. Paragliders in general are much better at flying, in ANY form. (speed/glide/sinkrate) (not freefall opening) The medium skydiving has in general is flawed for swooping, The risers are constrained, the canopy has to survive opening, the harness positions the pilot for a lot of drag, the lines are thick/ and must follow a slider pattern, anyway, the film is sick. http://www.flyacro.com/site/quicktime/movies/nside_Small.mov
  5. ...haha... yeah, actualy the full quote was "I read somewhere on dropzone.com..." that was a good day...
  6. I still think its a good idea.... and dude! you didnt finish? i ALWAYS finish! how do you do that?
  7. These walmart setups have worked the best for me as well, I got laughed off my dropzone with one. but then i let somebody try it and they offered to buy it from me.
  8. 2) It keeps the FAA off your DZO, your pilot, and yourself. Obviously, if you are all 3 of these people, then it's up to you. But when other folks are involved, it makes sense to look out for their welfare as well as your own.[/reply/] I agree, and i would never EVER get on a plane with an Illegal rig without the full Consent/and comprehension of consequences of the Pilot, and other people on the plane I also think that Using a standard skydiving rig, with a freepacked BASE canopy, (same setup as BASE, just in a legal container) works JUST as well, Just as safe to pull low. (this is usually what i use, besides, only 1 pin!) I just leave out the freefly mods, the colapsable PC, the Dbag, put some holes in the slider, some holes in the bottom skin of the canopy, make the bridal 4' longer, beef up the risers, and its the same thing. maybe i should pick up a skyhook system...
  9. [reply Dude, Im not old...That has to be some kind of personal attack, I'm only 33 yeah... i know. like steve said im just stirring stuff up. Unplanned buzzjobs are not cool... but i dont think flying a wingsuit within 500' of an open canopy is a bad thing, i dont think it is unsafe. if somebody asked me not to do it again, i wouldnt. but my normal flight pattern (if i have one) usually puts me within a quarter mile of open canopies... nobody complains yet, (even if i do an unplanned buzz of a tandem) As for docking low... I have done it as well, i have kinda docked a 2 stack from a jump off a 500' bridge (landed in the water, but low. and took 3 tries, and it was a offcenter dock) we are also working on docking a 2 stack cleanly off a 900' exit point, down a talus, so never more than 200' off the deck. As for pulling low... 1000' is dirty low with skydiving gear. but dirty high with the "other gear" I have pulled below 400' enough to know it is scary as hell, and done and seen it enough to know that there is a half second, literaly, (at about 2-300') in between "that was sick", +1.5sec "that was irresponsible", and +1.1sec "he's dead" +.8sec i just want to go jump. If somebody pissed you off, tell them about it, ask them to not do it again, and they most likely wont. Now that i am not sick anymore, i am going outside to go jumping. I have been crazy sick for 3 days, and have had nothing to do but try and piss people off around the world through the internet. The last thing i need is a guy with a calvin and hobbes Thumbnail on my badside... cheers,,,
  10. Organised Religion in general, hell, in any form, is the disease of mankind. there is nothing else to say. (well, maybe christians are the worst.) so many christians, so few lions...
  11. I started reading them when i was 6... i learned my best life lessons from bill watterson. "sometimes i think that the only proof that inteligent life exists elswhere in the universe is that none of it has tried to contact us"
  12. Did anybody else pick the Complete Calvin and Hobbes Collection up last month? I have already read the 1400 pages twice... My favs are: Book II, page 75 Book II page 324, middle. If not, you should really go pick it up. By far the most realistic representation of childhood out there, and what i am named after. "Aw mom, you act like im not even wearing a bungee cord!"
  13. Aye, understood. Skyhooks are pretty cool, demo'd one in Eloy. cool stuff. Im kinda a big fan of the single parachute system... i find after jumping it a ton out of planes, i would rather have it than my skydiving gear. not just for low pulls either. it just, simplifies things. I am not the only one who feels this way...
  14. i think our problem is still haveing no number attached to the so called buzz. and possibly the scrunched panties of a few old timers (not just you ron) if im 500' away from you in a suit, be it intentional or not, and you get pissed, im sorry, but thats the way it might have to be. BUT... if i come within 50' of you and throw my pilot chute in your face, i would totaly understand an asschewing is in order, hell, i might not even get an attitude about it. I think 50' is a bit close for an unplanned buzz (...) as for docking on my canopy at 1200'... now YOUR just being dramatic. but if you did i wouldnt break your nose, i would say "Dude! that was cool, but warn me next time"
  15. Yep...Show me once where I said that seeing a guy is enough? Go ahead..ONE." .......i cant, i was just being dramatic....... "How would you like it if when you opened I came in and top docked your canopy? I can do it safely, done it a bunch." ..............me too! (well, 30 times maybe) CRW is sick! (as long as its planned, and/OR above 2 grand).......... "Or how would you like it if when you are walking from the parking lot I come running in in my car past you at 50MPH? I have been driving A LOT longer than you have been jumping....So it would be cool with you right? I mean as long as in my opinion I made sure I would miss you and all, right?" as long as i couldnt possibly trip/jump/get pushed in front of your car, im down Dude...I'm not pissed. You have not buzzed me without permission. I just said what I would do if it happend. I know... i know... this forum place just lets me have an attitude...
  16. whoa! cool! the matter suit looks sick! who has flown it? i wanna hear about it -SPACE-
  17. dammit! im serious! Im telling!!!! TOM!!!!! ban this guy!!!
  18. A base jumper. I saw it on Tv when i was 13 i didnt really watch tv after that, there was no point. now its 7 years later and im 3 years into it.

    burgers? .................
  20. thats the plan... Im sure 95 percent of this is skill. therefore only time and practice will prove the desire.
  21. I am looking to buy a tracking suit... and want some opinions on the best suits there are out there... I have flown the phoenix suit but thats it... does anybody know what suits are being flown in the "into the mountains" and "virtus" films on skydivingmovies? i read that some of those were homemade... i have a bit of experience building homemade tracking suits, but not much. I am also looking for some coaching... i want to someday get 2/1... will travel. any help/ideas?
