  1. "Can we argue about wingsuit training again its much more fun?????????? " i agree... should i start? BMIs are a bunch of flutterfeatherfreeloaders! (did really just write that? whoa...) not really... this is just fun. anyway, my final word I think that if there is no way the canopy pilot can change course to intercept the wingsuit, its not a buzz, and is not unsafe, and i am going to continue to fly past people at a safe distance. if i get yelled at by a person of some "authority" i will increase the distance when they are watching. (caution wake turbulance)
  2. The key to effiecient flight is aspect ratio. agreed. this assuming we can minimise drag. the actual flight profile of a wingsuit is one of the dirtiest and least engineerable i have ever seen on an aircraft. Resembling some of the X projects in the 40s and 50s. one can only achieve a usefull gliding aspect ratio with extending the wingspan of an existing suit. This being very hard to do, a wingsuit designer can only increase to cord of a wing, and thus its total wing area. notice that the sticks we hang on to on our more advanced suits do not give wingspan, only cord. The other problems i see with wongsuits and effieciency is the "rogallo" shape of all wings. An optimum wing is one with a constant angle of attack, not low in the center and high on the tips. It is similar to the 70s hang glider designs, slow with little glide performance. I feel the largest problem with the "human body wing platform" is the flight profile one has through the air, the entire body flies at a 20-40 degree angle, and thus has an extreme amount of drag. In my opinion, the suit designers are doing the best that is possible at this time. I believe suits will progressivly get lower angles of attack to minimise the interferance of the human body in the suit, and that as this happens, the need for large "billow" in the arm and leg wings will be reduced. this of course will decrease stability, making the suit harder to fly. other areas to progress: finding a cleaner upper surface to complete the helmet/container/but balloon wing...possibly joining the arm wings to this center foil ...further seperating the but wing trailing edge with the lower leg wing to improve its perfomance and decrease "knee bend" interferance. all in all, i would say wingsuits have a huge opportunity to progress. they are a new thing, and new things are hard to understand. im sure old timers will remember when the sub-100 square foot parachute was impossible...
  3. aye... sounds good. i have been using my dagger with the same nose treatment, and a large mesh slider, my goal is to get used to the slams for base wingsuit. so i am leaving the mesh slider on and freepacking it. thanks guys
  4. sam, i just got my blackjack 260, fine mesh slider. what do you do to the nose? cant wait to jump it, but i dont know how much the vents are going to slam me. (freepacked,34"pc, in a mirage container for wingsuit)
  5. so, really... some recent posts have made me wonder what everybody else deploys at.
  6. if money was not an issue, we would have a 3500' Limited guyed A (as in fewer guy wires, stronger structure with bigger spaces between wires) with a enclosed house on the top, the roof being a 30' triangle platform with railings to guide the exit direction. the elevatorS would be exterior and run at 20 feet per second and hold 12 jumpers each. we would hold tracking comps with streamers to track through on the downwind side of the A. The wires would be lit with christmas style LEDs, and massive spotlights would light up the Sodded LZ. It would cost 15 USD for the ride up, and 500 a night for the room at the 3500', but then i guess we wouldnt be BASE jumping would we?

  8. "5000' feet is where I ask to get out. " --and it still feels dirty high.
  9. this of couse, all assuming one is jumping at a USPA drop zone, and that one cares about an organising body at all. and 2000' is a good safe altitude to deploy with the kind of gear we use. and i get no flak about it at whatever USPA dzs i jump at, where i follow the rules because i respect the reasons they are there. dump at 5000'? huh? thats almost 30 seconds wasted if your doing it right...

    Holy Crap!!

there is another video of a close one... a guy in Colorado came about as close maybe closer to a slurrybomber C131. is that footy posted anywhere? i remember watching it at the DZ, but thats it. he wasnt deployed either, it was a freefall flyby.
  11. "One word: CUNT" All other ways pale in comparison to this magical term. yeah... thats the tickit right there. all else is behind and below. you could sleep with your girls sister and she could forgive faster than she would if you called her this four letter word funny, its just a word. oh, and i think they all should be told they need to work the toilet seat. its pretty easy. other than the toilet seat thing, i have nothing but respect. being a girl would suck. i couldnt do it. They are expected to swallow, and while some really enjoy it, im sure i will run into one someday that says "you first" and i will bow to her, and withdraw my complaint, no questions asked. here is to girls!
  12. "Your closing speed is BS, the two parties maybe aware of the risks but I doubt the DZO would be thrilled to know you were doing head to heads. As for getting away with it, watch the golden nights track diamond film and then you might appreciate the risks a little more. " i assume you mean the one where the guys track into eachother, taking off limbs and killing one of them. That was an ugly day, and i drink to the deceased. but they knew the risks, and they paid the price for cutting it too close. i heard they planned for 20' clearence. thats a big hole to fill. and a wingsuit/canopy have a hell of a lot more maneuverability than tracking. from doing head to heads... that is dangerous. so is buzzing at all. hell, wingsuiting is dangerous. but we all decide our own level of risk and involvment. Both parties knew the risks, they are very simple, if somebody screws up, both people probably die. as for closing speed... Vampire 1...downward speed..50mph, forward speed of 100mph. Some irresponsible small canopy loaded high (i think it was a velocity) flies at 40-95 mph, depending on the way its flown. so forgive me, closing speed of 150ish mph. it was sick either way. i will edit. I would not buzz irresponsible close to a tandem because A-its hard to coordinate, tandem canopies are often random in color and B-the student probably wouldnt understand the risks, and his life is in jeapordy as well. and as for DZO, well, i wont get into that... lets just say it was all good. AND ONE MORE THING... on dumping low... I do not have any wingsuit base jumps, but i am a BASE jumper and i use BASE style canopies and techniques when i wingsuit. (loaded .7/1, 7cell, freepacked, mesh slider, 36" PC.) and i dont dump above 2500',nor do i close up the suit when i deploy. so i lose about 200' at the most after i decide to deploy. none of this is illegal, unsafe to me, or against the SIM When i am alone and not going to bug my DZO, well, i wont even tell you about that kinda low... You shouldnt tell people they are too low when you have no idea what they are doing with their own jumping. maybe you should word it like "i wouldnt pull that low with my current gear setup and experience level"
  13. I think we should consider how we define a "buzz" I think some students would think that a wingsuiter flying within 300' of them would be pretty cool, and definetly a buzz job. I think it gets unsafe when it matters which way the canopy turns, then its close, but a normal 1/1 loaded canopy couldnt cover 300 feet in 10 seconds, and it would be pretty tough to fly a suit accidently into a canopy with that distance. I think anything closer than the "if he turns, were wrapping" stuff, its unsafe, and should have consent of both parties. That said, im with Avery. Buzzing is fun. Tandems are dirty slow, so when we fly the V1s, we call the Tandems "Gates". On a planned buzz, i have gotten within 20' of a freind, and seen a head to head get within about 10', and it was sick. (2.5/1 canoy, and wingsuit. read:closing speed, 200mph) both parties knew what was up and knew the risks. but even fast moving canopies cant cover 300' that fast, and i would consider 300' a pretty safe distance in a wingsuit. hell, i buzz canopies tracking closer than that. really, consider the "if he turns we are wrapping" every time. It has not happened to my knoledge yet, but it will be ugly when it does. really ugly. like an apple through a chain link fence ugly (seen it once, dont need it again). be carefull. and watch out for those wingsuiters, some of them did not recieve proper BMI instruction and cannot be trusted. just playing... now seriously, be careful.
  14. I like pretty much all BASE/Flying/Skydiving quotes, save 2, the perfectly good airplanes one, and that goddamn Da Vinci "tasted flight" it is raped and beyond all reason destroyed to no meaning at all. please post neither, for this insomatic, late night websurfur will have none of it. and i just might puke on my laptop if i see it. but ones i really liked... "Your Standing on your Bridal... IDIOT" -cant remember, i wasnt there. "Dude, there are a few things you really dont want to learn the hard way, the rest i am going to let you figure out: pull, dont turn to low, and fucking flare." "Ok bro, there is only 3 handles, and one order you need to use them in. if you fuck this shit up, you deserve it." -...teaching my best freind how to skydive.(he did perfect) "Why are they all touching their heads?" -My baby sister, when we were at the GoFast games, she was watching all of us practice reaching for our PCs, and the movements one makes out of instinct look like you touch your head as you touch the PC for body symmetry, it was hilarious. "what happens if your chute doest open?" -every wuffo that has ever seen a base jump "you dont have enough jumps to be looking at that websight" -my mentor about dz.com, he was jokeing. -SPACE-
  15. aye... my first base gear was .79/1, and my new rig is .55/1. That little dagger was crazy fast. is crazy fast. still jump it in moab...
  16. Um... i bet he does 987...

  19. "fly close to ground and see how much the "groud effect" plays into slowing a wingsuit." I am pretty sure it would become measurable at around 1 to 1.5 meters above th ground. ground effects' effectiveness is greatly increased by Wingspan and aspect ratio, (two things that a wingsuit does NOT have at any advantage) Ground effect is mostly decreasing drag, not inducing lift... aside from bernouli effect, a wing gets most of its lift by the displacement of air from the top surface of its wing, it leaves the trailing edge at a downward angle and re-joins with the air from the bottem surface. ground effect happens when this angle is changed from interferance with the ground or water, (or snow, granite) As the angle decreases, the induced drag(drag used to create lift, measued at an angle relative to the lengthwise axis of glider, wingsuit) decreases as well (in a glider, this means that the amount of work needed in the form of kinetic enegy (altitude/gravity) and the glider becomes imensly more effeicient. A wingsuit, (guessing here) has a relative angle of attack of about 20-40 degrees, depending on suit and pilot. (this number means probably nill to a aerodynamics engineer working on a wingsuit, as there is no main "wing", there is a system of wings, all flying at diferent and constantly changing angles of attack. This means, that as a wingsuit closes in proximity to its choice of landing medium, the leg wing will start to experience ground effect long before the upper wings, especialy if landed on a slope, and this will be a large factor in control if the pilot is trying to do anything but crash and slide (tumble)... On an attempt, i think a wingsuit may be closing its distance with the ground at much to high a rate for this to come into play, but its something i thought of. The compression of air, between a wing and the ground, is commonly mistaken for ground effect, this actualy happens even closer to the ground and is most apparent on wings with a lower aspect ratio, i am not sure what it is called, but it would probably be called aeroplaning... wait,,,, what?
  20. The vehicle is the Grand Vitara by Suzuki. It is a really nice car at a great price I highly recommend you test drive one.""" ill get right on that... "rock climbing -down- to his car" who the hell is this guy? "That was a very difficult jump being only 865 " huh, i guess i learned to BASE jump the hard way then... Seriously, this guy is my hero... i am laughing pretty hard...
  21. "ratings pulled" Oh dear no!, not my A liscense! What will i do?! I am not a reckless pilot, i would never put somebody elses life in danger that had not expressed they were willing to go there, even if they asked, i would not bring other people in my plane when i was doing something i consider, well, not normal flying
