  1. I just dug out my Crossbow harness and container. It has a Navy 26' conical canopy with the closed apex. It is most definitely standard 1.1 0z nylon material for the "cap" on the apex. For those inquiring minds that wish to know __________________________________________________ Both of my Navy conicals have a solid apex. IIRC the cap was supposed to speed up the opening (no air venting out), in the event of extreme pressure the cap would blow off. The conical could take the high pressure because of the 5 circumfrence bands which greatly increased the canopy's strength. CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58

  3. I was referring to FF, but CRW seems pretty freaking scary to me!!! Why mess with a perfectly good canopy!?!? __________________________________________________ 1. Obviously you have never looked that closely at a CRW rig, far from perfect. 2. Gives "wanna caress some nylon" a whole new meaning. 3. Go to Lodi and get with Cheryl or Marcie or Sharon. They'll show it ain't "that" scary CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  4. QuoteHi, I'm planning to take a holiday in the USA to do some CRW. I have only done 25 CRW jumps but am keen to take a 2 week holiday and do as much jumping as I can. I am keen to get some coaching as well. Can someone give me some advise on where go - or which DZs to talk to _________________________________________________ You don't say when you'll be in the neighborhood, but, we do CRW at Perris most every week end. Two big CRW camps at Perris in Sept. They do a lot of CRW at Lodi, California. Then there's Lake Wales in Florida, a couple places in Texas.... CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  5. Let's see First jump 5 stack to 5way kite to 5 way box. Then just some post stacks. Second jump, with newbie pilot who couldn't keep the offset flying a straight line. broke off then did stacks to stacks. Flying pieces is fun! Third jump, started with a 4 stack which (with the help of the turbulance) became a 4 way plane, which streched out (see turbulance above) to a stack to a "Let's break this down". By the time we landed it was almost noon. We figured "almost noon " is close enough and we headed to the bar. Yea, a good day!!! CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  6. I don't plan on carrying the gun with me at all times, ..... or if I'm driving through bad side of town, which happens occasionally when I get lost... __________________________________________________ Do you plan on getting lost, or is it just one of those things that happen when you least expect it? If you go through the trouble to get a CCW, carry and learn your weapon. Think of it as you do your reserve. You really don't want to have use it, but, if you need it's there to help you out of a bad situation. When I carry (CCW's are hard to come by in Kalifornia) I am locked and loaded. A .45 is far too short to use as a club. Just my opinion CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58

  9. My last cutaway, the guy I wrapped landed with my main, someone else caught my freebag. Got back to the hanger, collected my stuff. Packed my reserve and just got started packing my main when we got a 10 min. call. I made the load and I think we did a 8 point 4 way. Yea, definitely get back on the horse CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58

  11. I hear rumors that Cheryl got drunk-dialed by Marcie, so there was definitely a party happening! :-) W Wendy, what's "drunk-dialed"? Those Texas colloquialisms sometimes confuse me... CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  12. It was 28 years ago today, a skinny 16 year old was on the step of a cessna at Pope Valley, CA making his first jump. A little bit of me still feels like that kid today. __________________________________________________ Happy Birthday Pete! CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  13. Quote90 knots? Ouch! That'll brutalize you on a Lightning.. I've got my new dz owner/pilot trained well - he's throwing us out of the PAC 750 at close to 60 knots :-) I love it! __________________________________________________ Yea Wendy, that PAC was at Taft (they don't do much hardcore CRW at Taft) in the begining. Mark had a little girl flying with him. I told her I wanted 80kts. After we landed she came up to me and sheepishly said that she got it down to 70kts and added "I hope that wasn't too slow". I just grinned and told her if that was the best she could do we'd live with it. I like the PAC. What have they been playing on the stereo? CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58

    Infinity

My new Infinity is by far the best rig I have ever owned. The quality is the best I have seen in a long time, maybe ever. The fit was excellent, no harness binding, no tight spots. it was like putting on a custom glove. When I got ready to order, I called Kelly with some questions and he not only was very helpful, he talked to me like I was his only customer. He wasn't hurried, he wanted to make sure MY questions were answered. A rare quality these days. The reserve is very rigger friendly. The reserve pilot chute WILL get off your back. I found I had the closing loop just a little too short, after I compressed the pilot chute, so I pulled the temp pin. The pilot chute shot up 9 or 10 feet, it WILL get off your back if you need it! I only do CRW so I can't comment on how this rig works with doing head down or RW, but, I can say since I spend a lot of time in the saddle, the double wide leg straps are the way to go. If you're looking for a new rig, call Kelly. I do believe he is setting a new standard in, quality, fit, comfort and customer service. Oh yea, I'll be ordering another Infinity for my competition CRW rig very shortly!
  15. There are weights made with about 1 inch square plates of lead These would be very easily made with the proper (or make shift) tools. __________________________________________________ Ken Oka has some of these molds. He may want to get rid of some CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  16. Yea, hard to tell from the photo. Doesn't look very clean tho. PeteS, do I know you? CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  17. Boy, slip knot on the bridle, now that stirs up the brain cell. I was a young rigger in training the first time I saw that. The Master saw me looking at it and said "Bob has it figured out. Just pack it." We didn't worry about TSO's so much back then. CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  18. Re-read Sparky's post. Yes, you slow your forward speed, BUT, you also decrease your rate of descent. IMHO, rate of descent, not forward (or rearward) speed is what makes for a softer landing. CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  19. From what I understand, the Russian CRW Dogs still use the PZ-81 for a reserve. I know if it was TSO'd, I'd use it. I do have a photo of one.....somewhere. I'll look CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  20. I'm trying to remember the name of the canopy that had steering toggels on both front and rear risers, now that was confusing! Help me someone what was that canopy? ------------------------------------------------------------ That would be the Security CrossBow. Toggles on front and rear risers were only on the first year (1964) production run. I have a really nice one with matching S/N's on pilot chute, sleeve, and canopy. As far as rear risering, I always did it. Didn't matter if it was 28', P.C., CrossBow, T-bow. always made my landings softer.... except when diong accuracy CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  21. This just in: Howdy, The IPC just voted! ..........................................8 Way is still alive! .............................................AND so is 2 Way! :-) Ciao, Marylou CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  22. Hey Nina those are cute (did I just use the word cute?), but if they're not edible or alcohol laden, what do you do with them? Happy Winter Solstice! CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  23. This is from one of the best http://www.dqnt.com/topdocking.htm CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
  24. I think it's easier for the bottom person to move over. A little rear riser, slide over and dock. There are, however, some excellent top dockers who may disagree. One thing to remember. The stairstep dock, in competition, must be presented as follows :"The grip must be taken with the inside leg or foot and the torso must be on the outside of the canopy". That is the torso must be outboard of the end cell. A couple of 2way teams were busted on that at our nationals this year. Just my 2cents CRW Skies Frank CRW Diva #58
