Woo hoo, I just discovered that there is still life outside of the DZ. . .I recalled that I used to always have a life but when I started jumping I kinda forgot about it. Camping, jet skiing, waterskiing, (and my new-found thrill) wakeboarding. Okay, pretty much anything to do with watersports other than scuba (cause my ears are bothered by it so much). :5:0 Had a great day on Sunday. . . 1 really bad attempt at a sitfly 2 REALLY FAST two-way RW jumps with Aubrey (ATSAUBREY). Yeah, even my puny butt could keep up with him. First jump we did a front pin exit and I was to go head down after we got out. . .but when we broke, we were on level. . .I did attempt a head down but with the weight belt on (only 10 lbs), I couldn't get stable. Second jump did a side body exit and got in 5 points with him. Then I made a quick jaunt over to Perris to get in a couple jumps there as warm up for Nationals. I jump at a DZ because I like the people and the attitude there. It also depends on what I want to do. If I am in need of some serious 4-way work, I will head to the local DZ that has organizing and some great people to jump with. If I just want to get out of the plane, I will jump where the attitude is the best. Bill, so modest. . .you should have steered him in the direction of your downsizing checklist. . .I believe this list will save lives. . . first jump. . .280 2nd to 15th jump. . .240 16th jump till around 27 jumps. . .200 and 210. . . bought my own rig. . .with Sabre 210. I think you are missing the point of his message. He doesn't want anyone to get hurt. Never did. He hopes everyone will skydive safely. But the fact remains that there are those who won't. For them, he hopes the only serious injury they suffer is a broken femur. . .the alternative is death. Hey chica's (guys too). I just heard a rumor from Skydive Elsinore that the bunkhouse has just become available for those wishing to stay. . . I am pitching a tent but if you want to stay at the bunkhouse, now is the time to book your space. . .$7 per night and hot showers in the morning. :14:0 What a great weekend - but also a lot of shit happened. . . Did 6 jumps on Saturday. Watched my friend have a hard PLF and land on his shoulder (broken collarbone). Did 6 10-way speed jumps on Sunday and watched (from the air) one of our teammates low turn into the swoop pond. . .broken ribs, internal bleeding and blood clot near heart. . .serious but will live and be able to skydive again. . .thank god! I have had several PM's regarding who it was who got injured at Elsinore. . .sorry I didn't post his name because I was just reflecting on the weekend. His name was Chris Halsan and he usually jumps at San Diego. He has about 300 or so jumps (not really sure on that) and I didn't want to speculate on the incident so I didn't post it in the incidents forum. Chris told others that he had come out of his spiral a little low, then turned quickly to try to avoid the pond but ended up pitching there instead. . .just a mistake. from my perspective (in the air) it looked like a low turn and then plunge into the pond. He is okay and other than being really sore he will be fine. Couple of fun jumps today. . .couldn't really wrap myself around the skydives today - just a little tired and overwhelmed by the weekend so I quit early and went home. . . First off, let me say that I am fairly new to the sport. . . That being said, I watched a guy bounce in Perris. . .I logged in here and read about my friend, Adria, and pretty much knew it was fatal - the brain injury being too much. . .I watched an AFF 1 students ankle bend in the wrong direction on landing - severely breaking it. I heard about a friend surviving a reserve mal. . .etc All of this in less than a year - right in my own back yard. Do I want more regulation. . .no. Why? Because there is enough regulation all ready. At some point people have to be responsible for themselves. Do you know why there is a rise in teenage violence and crime? Because of regulation, there is nothing for them to do anymore. . .insurance for businesses and services that used to cater to teens costs too much and put the businesses out of service. The same would happen in skydiving. The regulations and the costs of enforcing them would put many dz's out of business. It is tough enough already. And you know what. . .even for the regulation, there will simply be those who will always be rule breakers and get hurt or dead. . .that is a fact of life. I love this sport and definitely wish people would think before doing stupid stuff, but I am not willing to carry the financial burden for those few who are unwilling to listen or learn from those who have been there or gone on before them. I have not been able to post my feelings because I am so torn up by this tragedy. When I heard of the incident I was just crushed. This woman is about the sweetest nicest person you could meet. . .I had the wonderful pleasure of getting to know her during Bridge the Gap at Elsinore and she was absolutely delightful. I am so very sad right now. . .
