  1. I was thinking the easy solution is to tell all the new jumpers that the object doesn't belong to them, and that they need to stop BASE jumping... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

What kind of prices are we looking at for these rigs?? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  3. I had just about 500 skydives when I did my first two jumps in ID, a year ago. Went home, and thought about my life and how much I like it, and thought about BASE, and how dangerous it is. Took 8 months of thinking and making excuses, and then got back into it. I've done about 65 since September, can't imagine doing anything else. I don't know how much skydiving did for me, the canopies are COMPLETELY different, and I don't get to freefly in BASE. However, I did get more relaxed and comfortable after a couple hundred, versus the first couple. "If I knew then what I know now", I would have jumped a Spectre, maybe a big one, maybe just a BASE canopy. I would have made it a point to land in the peas every time. I would have taken advantage of the incredible CRW oppertunities that I had, and never took, to practice for what I really wanted. I would have saved money from normal loads, and got on every balloon load, and more heli loads. I'm glad I got into it when I did, it worked for me, and as I've learned, BASE is about the most personal thing that I've experienced... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

    BASE without skydives

Damn Ddog, 2.5+ mandatory off a 330ft cliff, with winds, at night, and a sketchy landing area? I'll take video for you, but I wouldn't jump it... I had about 500 skydives when I got into BASE, and like pullhigh said, all of those were a race to downsize to a sub-100 crossbraced canopy, and swoop from one end of the landing area to the other. They did nothing to help me with my BASE canopy control. When I front riser 360 turn my Crossfire2 119, it is different when I sink in my Blackjack 280 into a small area. In my opinion, the experience of landing several hundred times helped because I was a lot more relaxed landing the 500th than the first couple. That is obvious. I don't like going to the DZ much either. I feel like I'm at high school, back into the clicks and social groups. I see skygods that thrive on apparent superiority. And I simply don't have $20 for a jump anymore. Every time that I stop by the DZ to say hi to friends, I realize that skydiving and BASE are so different, that I can find very few things that they have in common. They both use parachutes, but not even made of the same material or shape. I think of the things that I've learned in skydiving, and don't think that a whole lot of it helped me. I learned some basic canopy malfunction drills, and don't get scared when I have a rig on, with two canopies, next to an open door of an airplane. But the whole point of this is- I think I've learned more bad habits from having 500+ skydives than I've helped. SKYDIVING IS NOT BASE!!! --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  5. Yea, if I watch anyone's video of the jumps, I will require a mute button. I watched those old guys try to sing, but they sounded so bad, I almost turned it off before the jumps... If anyone is in the know, were the jumps mis-edited to keep more camera time on the dinosaurs, or just in case there was a incident, they wouldn't have televised it live? My non-gravity-sport-friends thought that they skydived in through the opening in the stadium... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  6. I think we should get into a huge, argumentative thread on what the SuperBowl jump was... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  7. I heard something about Nevada standing up to the Federal man, and telling him to f-off. They were talking about making a little Amsterdam in some crappy town, where you could buy and possess up to 0.5 oz, but I think that money and boredom won in this case... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  8. Well, it doesn't help that Nevada and Utah are "no-tolerance" states, which pretty much means that the US Constitution is suspended in order to make the "war on drugs" more effective. Interesting that in Nevada, (LV), you can walk down the LV strip with an open beer, hire a legal prostitute, and gamble 24 hours a day statewide, but the smell of weed and suspicion is enough justification to throw someone in the pokey for 8 days, and cost them thousands of dollars... Sorry about your experience in the States, P --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

    Flik 266 = ???

I had a Perigee2 that I bought used with a Mojo280, and then later got a Blackjack280. You could definately tell that the vents and valves were in there, it packed a little bigger. Still fit fine, but you knew it was there... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  12. Just wondering, the last job I had, they told me within 3 days that I wasn't allowed to access dz.com, and I wasn't on there very often. I can't imagine that some of these employers are happy with people posting and posting all day at work... Let the posts from people at work begin!!! --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  13. I like Kaylne too, but did we need to start a post about it? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  14. Ok, then here is another question... Who is the "lucky" PD industry expert that was, and is, sent to Honduras to supervise the production of these canopies? Or are they just sending laser-cut zero-p out to Honduras, letting a whole bunch of Hondurans sew canopies together without even a single skydiver or rigger in the shop, and final inspection is completed in Deland? I'm not saying that these Honduran PDs are better or worse, but I am amazed at the number of people that have a blind loyalty to a company, regardless of what they are doing... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  15. Is everyone OK with this, and how many people actually knew about this. I was sure that I would have heard something about a high-tech, laser-die-cutting facility out there in Honduras, or at least heard a rigger complain about how their jobs are being outsourced to Honduras. Does this mean that the BASE canopies that several manufacturers outsource to PD, actually get outsourced and made in Honduras? Just kind of thought I was in the loop until I was inspecting my new PDR and saw that... Would I be wrong to say that I feel bad when I hear Levis doing this so they can make jeans at $0.30/hr, but its just the way business is done in skydiving? Just curious... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  16. Since when did PD start making PDRs out in Honduras??? I've asked around here, and nobody has even heard about it. What kind of facility do they have out there? Do they own it, or are they outsourcing it to some Honduran parachute manufacturer??? I want to know, in fact, I would have liked to have known before... I would have bought a PISA (not that they are equal) for half the price and known it was built in South Africa. I sent a picture of the label, just in case you don't believe it... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  17. Is everyone complaining about $20 vs $17? I can't imagine when I would skydive with my BASE friends from across the country, if not at Moab for the Turkey Boogie... Can't wait... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  18. How is this one getting judged? This super-high exit might have been 20,000' MSL, but that doesn't mean that it was a flat wall for 100 seconds of freefall... How high MSL is the landing area, how long of a delay did they take when they fell over, etc? I would think that the B is fixed now at around 1,700ft, A at about 2000', S at just over 1,000', and E at 4,500...? Just trying to figure out how much more they got from this huge expedition, or if the goal was to jump and land at the highest altitude above sea level? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  19. Aren't most ladder rungs 12", or 1 ft apart? If you count how many ladder rungs there are within the red-white colors, you can figure out how the A is painted, like 75' per section, 8 colors, etc...? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  20. I'd be up for that. Maybe with the right presentation before, and right behavior during, it might not be so hard. Let me know what I can do to help... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  21. Anyone know what the deal was from Hollywood to those in charge of the bridge? If I remember correctly, that bridge isn't legal to jump, but with the right amount of monetary donation, it became OK. Just wondering how much you have to pay to legally drive a sports car over teh railing, disrupting traffic, hauling stuff out, when it is illegal to climb over and mind your own business? Anyone have any legal background, if the allowing to do that once sets a legal precident? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  22. How much would a 500-1000' antenna out in typical BFE location be worth? Are there any expensive FAA or FCC permits that have to be updated, or is it one of those things that once you own it and have it sticking up in the air, it is low-cost? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  23. I have an idea floating around in my head that I got from combining BASE and these silly MBA classes that I am taking... Essentially, it would include getting an antenna and having BASE jumpers own it, for free!!! If someone would be interested in hearing about it, PM me... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  24. Yes, just like that, but with X's over the eyes... Like the one about avoiding walking into propellers at Sebastian... Or an official poster warning that we are highly trained professionals, that you should not try this at home, or without 10,000 ram-air skydives, etc... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  25. I'll be there, again. I love the idea about the candle jump, we'll have a strong groundcrew again, so it shouldn't be a problem. See you Saturday, P --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
