  1. Johnny U, The "B" Team is a non-denominational jumping group... Feel free to complete an application and I will put a personal recommendation to the committee... Or, you can start your own letter, but it can't be A, B, or C... Let me know, and again- less bitching, more jumping!!! PS Is there anything on here recently that relates to the actual skill of BASE jumping? Or are we just learning some basic interpersonal skills via keyboards and the internet? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  2. Does anyone ever wear out the batteries during weekend jumping, before the mandatory 2-year battery replacement? Every time I hear about this arguement about turning it off or leaving it on, I wondered if there was ever a documented weekend jumper that had to replace them within 2 years... Just wondering... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

All this talk about nudity and BASE... Enjoy... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  4. Which is exactly the potential problem... Is there such a suit? I would think even 30mph of forward speed is too much, and it would be almost impossible to imagine flying level, or with slight down angle, and only 30mph forward providing enough lift to sustain this level flight... What is the best that the best can do with todays technology? Maybe 100ish forward? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

Yea, maybe make a 2005 calender, with hot chicks, in bikinis, at exit points... Or topless, with their rigs on... Yes, that would fit inside my cube nicely... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  6. I can't believe that this will soon hit 10,000 views, just because Miles used the term "world famous"... Less bitching, more jumping... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  7. Yea, climb "in relation" to the formation... The formation is descending... In my opinion, it isn't as much the downward speed, but the forward flight speed that has to be figured out. I can't imagine how you can absorb the shock on your ribcage/internal organs during that first contact, and then decelerate controlled- and if you tumble, you won't have breakaway skis like downhillers, you'll be in the wingsuit straightjacket... Ick, I'll take video, some people have bigger balls than me... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  8. Yea, I don't want them to take my children because of the white lines glimmering against the moonlight... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  9. What are the best ways and brands to dye dacron lines and mesh sliders? Also, if anyone has any experience with this, do the lines experience any shrinkage, etc. I would assume there might be some... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  10. I hope that we are not getting into TSO'd rigs, US BASE Association approved instructors, and memberships. The whole silly thread started because Miles claims to be "World Famous". Maybe he is, maybe he isn't. If you like him, his ethics, or his shiny helmet, good. If you don't, he doesn't care. Are you going to tell the paragliders or deathcamers that they are absolute idiots? Not capable of making decisions concerning their own life? I'm sure they know that BASE is dangerous, and that they are way under the industry standard minimums. However, BASE is about personal risk assessment, and realizing that you are more likely to pay the price if you go to TF after AFF 7. Miles isn't a dummie. And he is a good, if not great jumper. If his students are willing to jump, they should be able to jump. What if it was legit to bungee off the TF bridge, and a couple high school kids showed up from Cali to have a fun weekend with rubber bands? Would you tell them that they are unsafe and that it is a BASE only bridge? Are you going to hide my rig when I start practicing quadruple gainers out there? Personal safety and risk assessment are a personal thing, and I doubt that a city that is so open and generous to let us do something that is otherwise illegal, would panic and overreact to yet another fatality. They know it isn't safe, and they know that we make our own decisions. I'm all about site preservation. Especially in TF. But I am more into people exploring BASE in their own way, without the man telling them what they can and can't do... Just my thoughts. --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  11. Why is it when someone does something that someone else doesn't like, the first thing that happens is that a post gets made, trying to influence "public" opinion about them. I wonder out of all the posts stating that someone believes that someone else is a dick, if there was ever a call made. I bet that Miles has a phone number, and I would also assume that it would be more appropriate to call him, tell him you feel that he is acting like a punk, and when he tells you to f-off, then slam him online. The internet is the perfect place for misunderstanding and skewing public perception... There are people online here that I would love to choke. But I don't think there is a jumper that I've met in person that I didn't really like. But slamming on someone that is never going to come on here to defend themselves is silly... Jimmy, Miles owes you a beer... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  12. In fact, Miles was one of the only people that I asked for advice when I was learning how to do double and triple gainers in ID. So yes, he did teach me a little something. Miles is perhaps one of the nicest, friendliest guys that I have met, and I smile every time I see him. He just has a different style, different needs, different reasons for jumping- I guess. And I don't always agree with what my friends do... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  13. I actually just did a search for the same thing a couple minutes ago. I honestly don't understand why someone would endanger themselves when it is quickly becoming documented worldwide that only bad (very bad) things can, and DO, happen using these black bands, in skydiving and especially BASE... These malfunctions are only the ones that have video, during dawn/dusk, with skilled jumpers who can analyze this stuff and post them on the internet... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  14. What is the big fear of a tailgate hang up? DEATH or serious injury! I don't think anyone is saying that you will die using a black tailgate band. I think the growing concensus is that you can die from a black rubber band, (I think we established that they suck for skydiving, and really suck for BASE). In fact, I will never use a rubber band on any of my gear, except for the primary stow for slider up. I am going to use masking tape for my tailgate, just taping the lines together. I remember reading about the environmental impact of jumpers trashing objects with bands. Not only are they really small and natural color, but I have walked the bottom of Tstone several times to check, and found three bands that looked like rubber bands left in the sun for a year. They broke into pieces when I picked them up. And I was staring at the ground walking for a half hour, at perhaps one of the most jumped cliffs in the world. I actually can't believe that I am discussing on the internet about the use of black bands saving the environment, when they serve NO advantage at all, and have met several jumpers who have had tailgate hangups, because of the black super bands. If saving the environment, one rubber band at a time is such a concern that it overrides your instinctive desire to not get killed, do your thing. But I am going to carry a packet of flower seeds from Home Depot, and sprinkle them at the landing areas to counteract the rubber bands and masking tape that I leave behind, until they biodegrade in the sun anyways... Seriously, what is the fascination with black rubber bands in BASE? --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  15. I figured out again that BASE isn't perfect yet, and we learned a lesson. Don't use black bands, and if you do, know why you are doing it... Jumpers before us had to figure out the same way that slider-down jumps should have the control lines outside the guide rings. We'll laugh about black bands 5 years from now. Now lets work on making BASE perfect and completely safe, and see who sticks around when there is no risk... My warning label never made so much sense... Parachute systems when properly assembled, packed, and operated are still dangerous and unreliable. You should consider yourself a test jumper when using this equipment. --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
  16. Karen, Thank you for your post, I am glad that Apex/BR posted officially to not use black bands. Also, please note that I have very little experience with the multi, as this was my first and last jump with one, and also that I would be dead if I was using this on anything less than 350'. Additionally, I have read the user manual for BR, since I often sit at work and read everything I can, and just checked the BR website owners manual again. Section 4, MULTI, does not state anything about not using black bands. I did a search, and did not find anything here or on blinc about not using black bands. I also think that if there was anything on here, I would have read about it, but since I don't have a BR or multi, might very well have looked past it. However, it does still recommend on the BR website that rubber bands are to be used... I was not trying to assign blame with my post. I did not try to divide blame into exact percentages- in fact, I am the only one responsible for myself and my equipment when I leave an exit point. I am grateful to you for retrofitting the container within 5 minutes of the incident. I have seen several other people using black bands on multis, and some even posted here that they do, and will stop. I hope that these posts will keep someone from making the mistake that I made. Its all good, glad to be alive... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

  18. Yup, so I had a pilot chute in tow, as a result of a multi-band hangup. It was at the frozen pizza cliff, BR Prism, Fox 245, 42”, ¾ sec delay handheld. I ran off, pitched uneventfully, and nothing happened, except things got noisy and I got some really sweet ground rush into those rocks at the bottom… Right about when I was about to hit, I felt the rubber band break, and it felt like at Six Flags, when you get that drop into the harness and the ride was over… The canopy opened great, the canopy flight was normal, and the only damage was taken care of by Rauk lending me a pair of clean underwear… I still need to give those back… Don’t have a lot to say about most of this. Although I spend most of my time at work trying to avoid it, there isn’t a lot to say about this. I would hate to smash into the rocks because of a stupid, black rubber band. If I took a longer delay, it might not have happened, since I was going to do another gainer, but I don’t think that a 50/50 chance for impact are good odds, unless you delay over 1 second using that setup… If you have a multi, I would strongly recommend thinking about the stowage of the multi lines, either using the sheath, or brown bands. And if there are any BR reps on here, I think it would be a good idea to let a shout out and let people know what BR recommends for the multi setup. That shiznit was scary… --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

    WEBSITE UPDATED!

I just never understood why the BR freefall chart "recommends" a 0-1 second freefall from 200', and shows that velcro rigs are good choices for low stuff, and pin rigs are just fair... Oh well, the whole chart doesn't really make sense the more I look at it, but I understand the difficulty of making such a generic chart... I would love to freefall 200' with a second delay- over water.... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime

    SL question

My opinion is that if I was SLing a 186' to impact building, I would want a very secure anchor that I had no doubt about, and at least 2 pieces of break cord. I get scared enough looking at one piece of fresh 80lb cord, at 220'. If this idea of using cut break cord onto a rickety anchor doesn't work at 186', things will suck pretty quickly for you... --------------- Peter BASE - The Ultimate Victimless Crime
