  1. My point exactly. Wingsuiting is a relatively new discipline, evolving and developing in many directions. "Back in the day" is currently here, or more likely just recently passed.
  2. I think "back in the day" refers more to when it was still possible to make brand new mistakes.
  3. You continue to disregard the fact that you can not only do, but enjoy both. Feel free to expand your horizons and skill set at any time....
  4. Contact the dropzone at xtremedivers.com
  5. I think some of the Birdman Top Gun crew were flying them on the 68-way.
  6. (stands up) "golf clap" (sits down)
  7. Best answer: ask Tony (as in Tonysuits) My experience: I've washed my Birdman Blade twice with good results. I remove all the hardware (hook knife, cutaway cables, etc), put the suit in a mesh bag, take it down to the local laundromat where I use one of the big washers (the kind you wash sleeping bags in) since I think it results in less agitation to the suit. I wash it in cold water with a small amount of soap, repeating the cold wash cycle again without soap to assure a good rinse. I then hang it to dry, which happens pretty quickly, except for the leather booties. YMMV.
  8. Sounds great, however I'll be watching the upcoming weather reports before I book anything....
  9. "Car Talk" (with "Click and Clack, the Tappet brothers"). I rely on the podcast when I miss the original NPR broadcast.
  10. I'm thinking about the basics, non-perishables like gauze, scissors, airsplints, etc.. That could expand exponentially if you include spectators. If you still have your presentation, I love to get a copy. It would likely be a good topic at Safety Day. As for tree landings, my first thought was "cut the tree down". Actually I'm old school and know some of the tricks previously presented, including deploying your reserve and sliding down (the outside of) the lines. There was a guy that ended up in a tree after a CRW wrap. The limbs eventually let go and he fell the last 15-20 feet, where we caught him in a 252 parafoil.
  11. This is indirectly related to the Kapowsin incident. For the other MD's, DO's, EMT's, ST&A's, etc. out there, what do you keep in your personal or your DZ's first responder kit?
  12. Amazing. Way to go, "Captain Slow".
  13. The white/blue BLADE seems to be inflating better than the red/black one. Does the white/blue have the "ram-air" modification on the inlet vents?
  14. Give them a call, they're open all this weekend (including today). If there's not an 800 number on the website, try 503-829-4036.
  15. 111. MattHoover.com? 8. Randy (Bones)
  16. I was about to reply with a well thought out response, but after your last post, you'll likely just disregard it anyway. You're probably right though, I'm just a Board Certified Internal Medicine Physician with 13 years experience in practice, 1000 skydives and World Records in both formation skydiving and wingsuiting. What do I know? Just a thought. Is it too much to ask for someone to interact with their physician as a person and not as an entity?: OP: "Doc, you rock! You used your extensive training and years of experience to make my lap appy look simple with an excellent result and no complications. Sweet! (insert optional fist bump here) Lemme ask you doc, I'm a skydiver, the weather's supposed to be great this weekend and I'm TOTALLY jonesin' for a jump. Any problem with that?" MD: "Well, ..." Here's where you describe the forces encountered during a skydive and he explains if you should hold off jumping for a while, and, most importantly, why. That way you're clear about the possibile complications and how to avoid them, he's gained some information regarding skydiving and when this type of "can I/should I" question comes up again, and it will, you'll be able to give an educated response, not just a wild-ass guess.
  17. ...sounds like clearance if i'v ever heard it!!!!! No. It really doesn't.
  18. Looks like the rear of the helmet would hit the leading edge of your reserve container when you're looking straight ahead while flying a wingsuit.
  19. It can certainly vary. My wingsuit made it from Helsinki to my door (Oregon) in two and a half days.
  20. Sorry for the need. Try Brian Drake (bdrake529) here on DZ.com
  21. Let's not get away from the important part of this thread.....I'M ON THE COVER! How ironic is it that Purple Mike is "90 Percent" blocked on the shot.
