I would guess that it is for a more fluid pull. If it is jammed in there on the velcro, it is very difficult to just pull tooth against pile. I love my G4. I am a big fan of enclosed pop-tops, so Vector, Infinity, Icon, Mirage, Talon. I like the riser protection, the main pin cover, the cushy backpad. Did I say, "The risers rock!" Had to cutaway from line twists that were down the risers to my neck the other weekend. The girl above me asked how hard it was to cutaway with the risers like that. I hadn't even thought of it until she asked. Smooth as butttaaa Anyway. The list goes on, and on, and on. There are so many GREAT rigs on the market right now. It's hard to go wrong. You pulled it out of your @$$. Consider what would hurt more. A chain link fence at 12 mph or the ground at 20? By turning you are just trading one obsticle for another, except you are increasing your speed in the process. Practice your flat turns some more. If you have to, think of it this way. Obsticle! Shit! Hit the brakes! Now slowly let up one side and flare from whatever point is necessary. Of course right as you are saying, "Shit" slam your feet and knees together too! I am an AFF Jumpmaster and have been selling gear for over 7 years. I jumped the Pilot and as soon as I landed I though, "This is going to be a popular canopy!" It is forgiving enough for a beninner. It is very smooth and resposive, but not in the least bit twitchy. It has great glide and a very nice flare. The opening are Saaawwweeeeet! If you can make it down to Byron, CA, I'll see if I can get you on a demo. I know you are not jumping in WA. My husband flys for Horizon and says PDX is shut down due to severe ice.
