  1. reminds me of an experience with a close call i had some four years ago. in that very thread tonto said something, that proved to be very valuable for me ever since: "Remember, experience is what you get when you don't get what you want" so i guess you all learned a lesson, you'll never forget. 6. no, that doesn't make it ok - but you've always got the choice: you like it - you jump there. You don't like it - go some place else. Usually i jump somewhere else The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

  10. the y-mod definitely changes the way pax "sit" in the harness and yes, it also changes the way they can lift their legs. this is exactly what this modification was designed for - to make it impossible that the bum of the pax goes as low as with vector based gears ever again personally i like the old, "y-mod-less" version better, not that this matters anyway The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  11. recently i had a discussion with a friend about downsizing and high wingloads with low jumpnumbers. he quoted (i think, please correct me if i am wrong) some lines of john leblanc, who said, that there are two types of jumpers. one is starting with bigger canopies and is mainly interested in staying up as long as possible and who enjoys slow canopy flight. Usually these jumpers stay with moderate wingloadings & canopies the other one starts with a big canopy as a student, is downsizing to a canopy that is to small for his/her experiencelevel and downsizes again if he/she hasn't hurt him/herself for another 100 jumps or so... the other quote he gave me was - the fabric above our heads is not our enemy, it's what keeps us flying and alive. maybe we should all keep it as simple as that The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

  13. make shure, that whatever you buy, has the matching colors for your rig/canopy/sneakers etc. you don't want to look like some of those old shabby ol'farts with stuff thrown together by random - if you want to be a skydiving-fashion-victim, you can never start to early, also: never ever forget to give others, that don't have shiny, top up-to-date, cool, badass matching gear-clothing-combinations arrogant looks. they are probably flying f111 7 cell canopies anyway The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666

  21. as a sidenote i also remember a thread, were it was argued, that a good deal of jumpers is downsizing rather quickly, without turning out to be DGIT's or members of the bounce bingo club. my guess is, that it's just the jumpers shopping for convenient answers and a questionable attitude turning up in the incidents forum. before anyone flames away: No, i do not think it is a wise decision to downsize qickly, to fly a semi-eliptical at 1.3 at less than 200 jumps. if i were to buy a new canopy, i'd go for one size bigger than what i've been flying for the last years The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
  22. I've only been to africa once (tanzania) and i had some very interesting conversations with people from medicins sans frontiers working in various parts of africa. bottom line: if you come from a western culture, there is no way to understand how "african" minds work. some argue, that they don't work at all... one example: on one hand you'll get ice-cooled coke in the tiniest rathole of a settlement, still there is no supply of drinkable water for the next dozen of kilometers... the problems within this continent are endless, some stem from the colonist past, some from the unableness or unwillingness of the ruling caste to work for their people and some (all? the majority?) from international politics using local governments for their own profit... africa is defintely a beautiful place and at the same time it is hell on earth The universal aptitude for ineptitude makes any human accomplishment an incredible miracle dudeist skydiver # 666
