  1. Not that I post much, but since you brought it up... In the basement, relegated to digital recorder/guitar duties; Analog Fisher Studio Standard connected to a like pair of Fisher towers with 12inch woofers. It gets with it, if you ask. Upstairs; Boring new Harmon Kardon theater amp, but connected to two Carver TFM 15' CB, 200 watt, bridged so one per channel, connected to factory assembled pair of Speakerlab Super 7's. It is so clean you can only tell it is loud when somebody tries to talk to you, and you only see their lips move, but you can't quite hear them. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  2. Oh goodness, not under a rock. Just the other side of it, out of view. Livin' an lovin'. I hope the same all around. Dredgin' up an old thread...Oh well. I cruise by once in a while to see what's up. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  3. No. They are very kind, in spite of the drunk dials... ---------------------------- bzzzz
  4. ...Good call. on that pistol. If the masses only knew... ---------------------------- bzzzz
  5. I really think light bulbs should be done away with. Look at this headline from today's www.cnn.com. • Watch: Lightbulbs scar girl, force a dim childhood They are just to dangerous for today's society. What if the terrorists start using them? Then what? ---------------------------- bzzzz
  6. Mikey's hair is brown? Or the kid's? Niether one is possible, it has to be orange. Congratulations Mikey & Lena. Miss you guys. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  7. I think the above is it. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  8. Maker sure you spend some time playing with the drain in the kitchen. Some days, the water drains by spinning to the left, some days it goes to the right. Some days, it just doesn't care, and will go whichever way you start it going. hmm. I know there are better things to do there, but that tripped me out for weeks. I always felt safe in Quito. It may have changed, but it used to be mellow, reasonably, anway. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  9. Looks good. You might want to think about completely finish that flair. In that situation, it was great, and no problem, but if you switch to a smaller canopy, or have a bit less/no wind at the end of the landing, you will want it to slow you down as much as possible. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  10. Yeah, Nigel, nice to see you post, but tell us, since your profile doesn't reveal it, What is your BASS number? Sorry, couldn't resist that one. TowerDude, if you want to do it once, then go to Potato land with somebody that knows what they are doing, knows how to teach, has the gear, and likes you enough to put you off the rail. That's a taste of it. If, after that, you want to continue, then go for the full course. And yeah then the money for it is totally worth it, because they don't just teach you how to get off that bridge, but they try to teach you to be a BASE jumper. The guy that put me off the Potato bridge knows what he is doing, builds one of the best rigs "not" on the market, jumped by some "world class" people, but... His first jump, was on a rig he built, off a bridge with a sketch landing, and none of us would go with him, because we didn't want to see him die. He did great, but that is the kind of experience you will get if you don't have a great BASE friend, or aren't willing to pony up the money to pay for real instruction. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  11. Ah heck, I'll play. 4 years ago, I was either going to get a pilots license, or skydive. ONCE. oops, should have started with the license. But, as a result of skydiving, I have my pilots license, love to fly, and especially, love to land it. I'll likely eventually fly jumpers, but mostly for fun. That Caravan is a kick to fly. Her is my latest shop project. www.northwindrigging.com/fisher/fp303.htm I'm sure I'll soon have some video of some sort of stupid skydiver tricks with it. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  12. That was a fun load. I said to his wife, 'See those guys? That is your husband. Now see that? That is their first parachute, they are under a reserve.' She tipped me too. I don't think so much that you saved her husband's life, but that she thought it was so funny that he got a "double" parachute ride, and that she had so much fun. She was pretty cool. And yeah, I get my share of tips too. I never say 'no'. I think they are appropriate for a job well done, but should never be expected or taken for granted. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  13. This makes me kinda sick. The poor lemmings have been slandered throughout history to the point that people actually believe they are suicidal. There're not, some mass murderer makeing a Disney film pushed 'em off a cliff. So, not only do they get killed, the get blamed for doing it to themselves. Just a bad day in rodent history. So does the masses believeing lemmings are "lemmings" make those believers themselves into the mythical lemmings? ---------------------------- bzzzz
  14. I don't think I would do it. It can handle it, but I think the sweetspot is around 2, 2.1. They swoop great, and shut down way better than your Stiletto at that loading. If you want to load up from there, you have the option, but you can't lighten from 2.4 to 2.1. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  15. The Brave little Kitty says to the tweety bird... "Now you just stay right there little birdie, I got you right where I want you." ---------------------------- bzzzz
  16. Yeah yeah, whatever. Andy packed that reserve and I didn't trust it anyway So I thought a washing and premature repack was a good idea. Or something like that. I commandeered a Varga, and will be landing in Toledo about 8. Save a beer for me. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  17. Example, for further analysis. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  18. He he, funny, one did last night, unfortunately it burned out before it hit his doublewide. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  19. I might as well give you my take on it too. I'm the one that did the perfectly executed back flop. Like Steve said, the jump was going fine, but excuses aside, I stalled it, and it dumped me. Consider, though, the difference between making that jump look easy, and doing what I did was very small. If I had turned to final, left it in full flight and landed, it would have been no problem. But it was an accuracy competition, and I had actually done exactly as I had planned, get on final a bit up wind, and back it onto the target. So, the plan I made on the bridge was going well. The problem was, it was a BAD plan. Trying to sink it in, with resulting backing up, in that wind was a bad idea. Then, the next guy would have jumped, basically until someone else got hurt. The winds where too much. The bright side of mine, is after they saw my "landing" everyone walked off the bridge. I'm sure those other two guys later that day wish they had stayed off the bridge. If you want a lesson from the carnage, consider this. That was my second BASE jump, the problem wasn't exit, deployment, fear or any of those things. It was canopy control. The very same with the serious injuries, it wasn't anything the FJC's could really teach, completely, you need experience. They all got hurt because of makeing bad decisions under a good (enough) parachute. And so you know, I have about a thousand skidives, a new tandem instructor, done a lot of demos, can kick butt under a small parachute, etc. All that matters, but, in my opinion, doesn't matter as much as a lot of experience and practice on BASE specific landings, accuracy, maybe CRW, stuff like that. So, whether you are new to skydiveing or not, and really want to get into BASE, get some experience flying your canopy the way you will have too in that enviornment. At the DZ I you seldom see people jumping in winds half as bad as most people where jumping off that bridge. It's all good, and my chiropractor appreciated seeing me again... ---------------------------- bzzzz
  20. Yes, but the choices in your poll don't really fit with what I think. I stay square until it is out of the bag, then I look at it. That just may be a glance to make sure it is doing what it should. If it is spun up, I have just a couple seconds, or less, to do something about it before it goes to hell. If it is a nice square snivel, then I can go about my business of checking trafic, etc. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  21. Good advices; We're starting our road trip to potato land on Friday, we'll be there sporting Defiance containers, and doin our best to be such fine examples of the BASE community. My first so it should be interesting. thx for all the info on the board. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  22. One of our alternate landing areas out of Kapow. Nice spot, and a nice guy that ones it. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  23. Yep, got off 4 caravans, doin' the cloud dodge all day, but only landed there once. That was a pretty fun and funny one, a little bit down wind, and most of the rest of the load landed next to (?)the mowed strip in the 4 foot tall grass. It was pretty funny carnage, with nobody getting banged up.. ---------------------------- bzzzz
  24. If your bored at work, and want a virtual swoop, here is one from yesterday that made me smile. http://www.northwindrigging.com/storage/dstrip.wmv And people wonder why we swoop. ---------------------------- bzzzz
