If you want to know everything that is going to happen and how you shouldmturn when yuo are not even stable go for it. You are going to have to take the approach that is going to work the best for you. I went out and jumped the first time then came home an found evrything about how to do all the skills that I was going to be doing in AFF. That is how I felt best: Learn, Reherse, Forget it and do it. Some of my friends just did it. Above everything that we can tell you you must be confident when you jump. You must have everything set in your mind as to how you are going to do things and how you will react in any situation. After all that remember that this is reall a lot of fun. I was thinking that unfortunately we spend a lot of time remembering friends we have lost or dealing with the feelings. We should have an event like Memorial day to remember those who have died doing what they love and living on the edge. We could all get together on the first weekend in July and have a nation wide moment of silence followed by formations at each DZ at the same time say 12:00pm PST. Dude you are nuts. Even in perfect condition that old gear is not around for a good reason it is hard to control and hard on the landings. I know that we aall may have some odd ideas of fun but that one I don't understand. Blue Skys and Safe Landings Albatross

I really hate to be the one to talk about this again so I will start by saying that guy is now out of the hospital and recovering at home. I was waiting in the loading area getting ready to make my second jump of the day after a long lay off. I was shooting the shit with a friend and casually watching the canopies landing. Suddenly the one I was watching made a hard left toggle turn at about 30-40'. The guy hit at about 30 deg short of vertical. He impacted on his leg, hip, chest and head. The impact broke his full face helmet and screwed up his face. The DZ asked for medical people and I responded. The guy was breathing but needed help. I held him in C-spine for about 30 minutes until the paramedics arrived. The DZ slowly got geared back up but I opted off the load to clear my head. Then the clouds came in and there were no loads until just before sunset. I knew that I needed to jump so I took a chance. The clouds closed in and I ended up doing a hop n pop from 3500'. I needed that jump to clear my head and convince myself that it would be OK. We all delt with the crash differently but we all delt with it. dropzone.com was a big part of me dealing with it. I don't know what I qualify as but I am 6'1" and weigh about 170. I am what you call a floater (lots of surface and not much mass). AFF was not hard for me mostly because I have a good feel for my body (I know the comments are coming). I have always been an athlete and that seems to really help. Just try to get the jumps close together and listen to what the JM has to say you will be fine. Blue Skys and Safe Landings Albatross
