  1. Mary! You shouldn't wear a ringsight in the base of the formation. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  2. OMG, i take it back! I take it back! You win Dueceypoo!!!! I will never question you ever again! I promise, now, please, delete that first one! I like the second one of us, I hadn't seen that, so thank you for that! peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  3. At Perris, RW#'s 1, 2, 3, and 4 plus the A-license check-out dive. They basically entail docking, tracking, fall rate adjustments, diving and docking, centerpoint turns, and combinations of these things. You can get a copy of the blue RW book from the PV school. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  4. Duece, as much time as we've hung out... there's no excuse for you not having a photo of me. You suck. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  5. Ahem, actually, I don't think so... But I know I've taken yours. How do you like dat! peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  6. is that american dollars? or what is the equivalent in american dollars? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  7. dangit. I still haven't seen the tv show "I'm Still Alive" piece on it either. Was it on the regular Discover channel that I get or one of the more specialized discover channels that I don't get? I'm not usually a fan of people putting crash footage on tv, but Tim admits he was attempting a rare stunt and he made the mistake. And he's said he's going to use all the money he gets from it for devon's college fund. peace lew btw, Hi Chris! http://www.exitshot.com
  8. That sucks! Andrea I'm so sorry to hear that! Were you wearing wristguards? Heal Fast!! lew http://www.exitshot.com
  9. True. I'm just not real swift with a soldering iron. What I'm thinking of would be a short cord with an N3 plug on one end and a female socket for a 2.5mm plug on the other. That way I could plug in a store bought bite / blow/ tongue switch. that's what we've all made... I have two (incase I break one), and they're easy to make. The expense is in Canon's stupid proprietary plug. I wouldn't sell my adapter for less than $50, as that's what it cost in parts alone, using a real Canon N3 plug. Reality, maybe for $65 each, I'll sell N3 adapters. It's raining here anyway... So, if you're willing to spend that much, let me know. Or you've already got the expensive piece, just hack it yourself. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  10. Ritz's ESP. I talked about it here, here, here, and here.... we've talked about warranties a lot, do a search. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  11. You know what, I haven't even bothered with the update. I have my auto-off set to 4 minutes. On jump run, i open and close the CF door and that brings the camera back to life, and I fire off a test shot or two. I can here the shutter so I know if it has taken a photo. No problems doing it that way so far. I know, I should just get the firmware update, but it hasn't slowed me down, so I don't think about it. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  12. It was hit or miss but a bunch of loads went up. There was plenty of jumping to be had. If you're not at the dz, you can't jump. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  13. I'm proud to say I took my mom on a tandem today. It was my 2000th jump and my mom's 2nd jump. I bought her a tandem years ago when I just got my A license. She liked it but wasn't planning on jumping again... Then when I got my tandem rating, it was her idea to jump again with me. She said she wasn't scared this time. I was. It went great. My mom is the best. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  14. Billvon is a smart man. Click here to share his wisdom. And btw, he jumps in perris, so find him and talk to him. And the Canopy school in perris is a great resource. why the hurry? why lie in your profile? seems like a troll almost. And on a similar note, why is it so many people read the forums with posts from anyone who may or may not know what they're talking about... but they do not read the safety articles which are well written from credible sources? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  15. Roy, you should have known that before you bought the camera. And you should have figured out what comprable lens to use with the conversion factor to match up with your video. Are you a cameraflyer or just a skydiver with a camera? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  16. Thanks everyone for putting together the skydive. It didn't go exactly as planned, but it was nice for everyone to get together and it was a beautiful sunset. The rosepetals dropped over the landing area were touching. My heart goes out to her family and close friends. I did not really know her, but I know loss and anytime we lose a skydiver we all lose a family member. Let's all make an extra effort to look out for eachother. And tell your friends how much they mean to you. Fly free Michelle. Fly free. Here are a couple images from the memorial jump. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  17. What helmet do you eventually plan to use and how do eventually plan to mount it? If I were you, I wouldn't bother shopping now, I'd want for about another 300 or so jumps and then see what's new to the market. peace lew And btw, I'd go for the PC over the HC model. http://www.exitshot.com
  18. Then why'd you delete your post? peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  19. Do they know you were using it getting paid to film a tandem? I went through all this with State Farm last year... but I was up front about using the equipment to earn money. They could not add it to a renter's policy and said I had to get a business policy on it, all of it, including my computer... Then they wouldn't even write me a business policy because they viewed anything related to skydiving as "too risky", which blew me away. Even after I argued about how I don't jump with the computer, they still wouldn't cover the computer. The big difference was the fact that I was earning income. If I was only using the equipment recreationally, they would have covered it. There are other threads on this topic, do a search. I'm afraid if you make a claim as recreational equipment then they find out you earned money using it, that will void the claim. For my camera gear, I get ESP's from ritz. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  20. Therein lies a problem. If you are in the loading area, and you don't know or can't tell what the other groups are doing and where you should be in the order, you should step up and ask. Don't assume or expect anyone else to sort out your question if you don't ask. Often times the assumption is that experienced jumpers know the exit (& boarding) order and should figure out where they belong. There are too many different jumpers from all over to assume the "most experienced" person or someone else is going to take charge and tell everyone where to go. As a licensed skydiver, you are responsible for yourself. If you are still on student status doing solo's, pulling high, you should be last out after experienced jumpers, before students and tandems (and wingsuits)... As a licensed skydiver, you should know the exit order before manifesting, if it's not explained when you sign all the waivers and watch the video, ask manifest. If you get over to the boarding area and you can't tell, speak up. Good. Why not do that from the start? Keep in mind, the majority of the skydivers in Perris are not locals and are visiting from other dropzones. So you might want to preface your question by asking if there are any Perris locals on the load, and then ask for help on exit order and seperation. Oh yeah, and it helps if you speak Russian, French, Italian, Japanese and Canehdian. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  21. I started on a 120 at about 1.6 - 1.7 and liked it, about 300 jumps on it (perris is ~1300ft msl). I then got 107's and I'm around 1.8 to 1.95 (500 jumps on the 107's) with my full weight belt, and I'm loving it... I definitely prefer the higher wingloading myself. I really have fun with the swoops when I have my full weight belt on. In fact, I prefer jumping with weight. It sinks a lot though. I work my rear risers hard to get comprable glide as to my teammate with similar size & w/l on a crossfire in full flight. It depends on what you want to get out of it. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  22. Lew, is it possible to have a copy of that list or tell me how to get that list. It will be so useful on my dz since we only have one editing station and 3 to 4 vidiots wanting to edit the whole tandem videos of the day (but I saw we use the same DVD recorder as you do). Last night I got out of the dz at 11pm editing my stuff waiting on the other 3 to do their work (it sucked way too much to wait all that). By doing the +R will save us a lot of future problems. +RW not +R. Yeah, that website posted above is even better but I'll ask next time I'm in to get a copy of it... peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
  23. Bryn, very nice light on that tandem photo. I wish I could shoot everything at sunset like that. I mostly shoot Autofocus with the 20D and have been very happy with it. I shot manual with the same lens on the 10D. As long as the subject is fairly centered and obvious in most of the frame, I have no problem. I'll use AF for students, 4way or anything where there is one main subject. If there are going to be multiple points of focus, then I would go manual focus and predetermine the distance to the subject I want to focus on so the camera isn't indecisive. In AF, I can still get 5fps if I hold my switch down. Even with AF, the camera will focus for the first frame, and lock the focus for all the continuous frames for as long as I hold the switch down. I've shot 45+ in a row like that, just for kicks. If I know I'm moving, I just let up off the switch and it will AF again the next time I hit the shutter release. There's only a slight delay if the camera is not sure what to focus on, ie, two subject on either side, one close, on far... Otherwise the AF works very well and very fast. I like that with AF I can get more of a variety of shots from varying distances. But that's just me. I still get an occasional out of focus shot with AF. In fact, JP went up as a second camera with me recently, him on MF with a 10D and sigma 15 and me with AF, 20D and sigma 15, and we both had a couple out of focus shots from the jump. He set MF for primary, about 4 feet away, so when he backed off and shot secondary, the student was out of focus. Whereas my out of focus shots were just a couple random shots throughout. peace lew http://www.exitshot.com
