  4. Chris that's very cool about the Cherokee 6. The C6 is a very stable platform with a lot of power. I'm only guessing, but if you strip the seats, replace that heavy back door with a plexiglass jump door, and do some fuel management you could probably get 6-7 jumpers in there. Chris was there a problem with the tail? Thanks Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  5. I'm thinking of getting my riggers ticket. Not because I want to actually practice or make money, but just because I want to learn more about gear. What are ya'lls thoughts? 7. A nice safe number is to figure 10 gal/load based on 36 min loads. This will vary a lot depending on conditions and how full the airplane really is. I used to own a Cherokee 6-300 but have never seen it used for jumping so I can't really address that part. It typically burned 18~ per hour but that will vary with Jumpers. Remember most of your time is spent in climb not cruise. It there an STC for a jump door on the Cherokee 6? Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 8. Sere is absolutely right. I just got one back and then sent another off today. I think mine was $256. My shipping must have been a couple bucks higher. I left sport for a while and now that I'm back, I missed the 4yr and 8 yr. Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5

  10. Cisco I have to agree with you. I've learned over the years to walk on eggshells with manifest. It seems that I've come across more of the "grumpy" ones than friendly ones. A few years back I was jumping at a now closed DZ. I was bringing tons of "friend" tandems in. At least 2 per week. I even paid for most of them myself. I just loved introducing new people to the sport. I didn't ask for a discount, or a referral fee. The only thing I asked for was to be on the same load. In several instances I was told by manifest that I couldn't be on the load. When I tried to discuss it manifest said "we don't work for you and we schedule the tandems where they fit with the staff." I discussed it with the DZO and his attitude wasn't any better..I told L.B. to shove his DZ up his #$%. (pompous bastard does get his eventually) Any real business man treats all the customers well in all aspects of the business. I don't know if DZO's just don't get it or don't care. Maybe they don't realize that their employees are not getting the job done correctly. I work in a consulting capacity with physicians. Often the best doctors have the rudest staff and don't even realize it. They are so caught up in their own duties. anyway....My rant for the week.... 12. I was a combat medic in Iraq the first time around. After that I was a trauma nurse at a level 1 trauma center. You never get used to being around people dying. Dealing with it makes you confront your own mortality. We are all going to die. I personally believe when it's your time it will happen whether you are walking across a street or falling from the sky. Dealing with that fact is one of the things that makes Skydiving unique. We know the risk and mitigate it where we can. Many other sports like racing for example, often just try not to think about it. I have never seen anyone die at the DZ. Every person I have ever seen hurt was due to one reason, Low turn under canopy. I don't swoop and try to avoid congested landing areas. It's not full proof, but I do what I can to be smart about the high risk sports that I do. Other than that when you die isn't in your hands. 15. There's a Bar at PCH and the Terminal Island Expressway in Longbeach. It's called Angel's and they do "Hot Shaving Cream" wrestling. I worked there in 1989. One of my favorite jobs EVER!!! 16. I'm home watching the Texas Rangers game. They just showed when the Golden Knights did a demo into the stadium at the beginning of the game tonight. One of the Knights got caught on one of the flag poles coming into the stadium. They did an interview with the person in charge and he reported that the Knight was unhurt. Interesting whiplash video though....Glad everyone is ok. Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  17. Definately not YZ's fault...Welcome to the sport. The sad thing about Skyride is that if they had just run the business model correctly, everyone could have come out winners. The newbie could be introduced to a great sport. The sport could have benefited from the increased publicy. The DZ increased business. The money Skyride would have lost from operating the business properly will be lost anyway in legal fees and plantif awards. Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 18. I've built in a "Jump" day in SO-CAL on an upcoming business trip. I'll have all day Friday Sept 10th and part of Saturday (Before I drive back to LAX for flight). Which DZ do I want to spend my limited time at? I don't know anyone at either DZ. Will anyone jump with me? I think this SO-CAL trip will get to be a regular thing and I'd love to get to know some people at the DZ's. I'd also like to eventually get some tunnel time in, but not on this trip. 20. I get a nice bonus in October and I am already debating on if I should use that money for furniture/washer and dryer that I will need or my first rig... A "real" skydiver would never ask that question!!! Obviously you have heard of "Laundry Mats"... Just Kidding Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 21. I was at 1500 feet in a 182 one time when the engine stopped. I was next to the pilot in the "student" spot. The pilot looked at me and said "GET OUT"!! I yelled "door" and was gone with a hop and pop. In this case, I did get a refund...that's the only time...lol Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 22. I was curious about this thread after watching a helo cross through the DZ yesterday. My next door neighbor is one of the most senior FAA inspectors in Texas and I wanted to get his take on this. He said that the FAA would treat the Parachute as a glider or non-powered aircraft in this situation. He said that due to the NOTAM he would violate the pilot based on FAR 91.13. He also went on that there is no definate way this would be handled and that ultimately the Judge (or FAA version of a judge, I can't remember what he called them) would make the ultimate decision. He also said the pilot would be allowed to present a defence. And the pilot's attorney would argue 91.185 which allows a pilot to break any rule in the FARs in an immediate action situation to ensure the safety of his aircraft. He would argue that due to the percieved presence of a canopy in his way, he made evasive action as he judged necessary. He was very clear that most sitations are not spelled out exactly in the FARs and it is open to interpretations. Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!!
