  1. Not too worried about the patents...I know a lot about patents...I'm not in danger of violating those...The existing ones are on method the rest are expired... Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  2. You are right. 10' tall...please dont throw to classified ads, I'm not giving any purchasing info, just want to know more about the market. Thanks' Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  3. Looking for ideas, I am making wind blades. It started just to watch the wind on my property. I've been enjoying making them so I've made a few. They are decent, 10" tall, really sturdy, and I can make them in almost any color. I currently don't have the ability to put designs on them. A friend suggested I make them available for people to buy as a way to supplement my skydiving. I'm just interested in finding out whether people would buy them. I've done a little research on the web and found them at about $300+, but those have designs on them. I was thinking about selling for $125 plus shipping. Is it worth while? 5. I agree Andy, but it may be his only option to get some altitude. I also agree with several other posters, as a former trauma nurse, doing anything at that weight is dangerous. BUT!!! Most people think we're all insane adreniline junkies...so who am I to tell him to stay on the ground...lol Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 8. I guess he could actually use a tandem drogue to stay stable and slow down a little. I'd contact Bill Booth. Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  9. YES!! I saw it happen once!!! I was with a good rigger one time when he popped someone elses pack job. The Molar strap was there with the other riggers name on it. I'm sure it's not the only time it has happened. This was about 10 yrs ago. Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5

  12. I agree Jimmy. I remember one case about 10 years ago that a woman went through the first jump course. She was a girlfriend of one of the "skygods". I remember her wanting to quit after 3-4 jumps, and really, she just wasn't getting it. All of us at the dropzone were worried. (I've always wished I had said something, but I was a neophyte back then). Because of the peer pressure of her wanting to be part of his world she continued jumping toward her license. The Skygod just kept encouraging her. On about jump 19 of 20, she biffed and broke both femurs. The kind of fractures that will effect her for the rest of her life. (her and the skygod broke up eventually) I'm afraid if someone pays all the way through the "A" lic, there might be a little too much pressure to continue if they decide that skydiving isn't for them. In aviation, this is referred to as "Loss Aversion". Pilots sometimes push a bad situation to avoid a loss, and end up dying because of it. I know I'm about to get blasted by the "personal responsibility" folks out there, but it's just a thought. "Ryder" Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 13. Congrats and have fun!! When I was married 20 yrs ago, my mother in law said, "I'm going to tell you how to do everything, how, when and why!!! Listen to me. Keep what you think makes sense and toss the rest..." She was a smart woman (r.i.p. Ms F.) I encourage you to do the same. Listen to everyone's opinion, keep what makes sense and toss the rest. Find a couple of mentors that know what they are doing. Pick one mentor that is really good, but really kinda nutz. Pick another mentor that is conservative and stayed alive in the sport for many years. Land yourself close to the middle. That way you can have fun while staying smart. I do all kinds of "high risk" sports. The key is to do them with all the knowledge you can get ahold of. As far as people are concerned, skydivers are like Army Brats. People come in and out of their lives sooo often that they sometimes put up a wall with new people until they realize that you are really gonna stay around. Have fun and be smart. 14. I actually had a simular issue 9 years ago that contributed to my leaving the sport. I'm coming back now, but we'll see how it goes. I was taking friends to Skydive Texas in 2001 for their first Tandem. I was paying full price for their tandem and all I was requesting from the DZ was to put me on the same load. (not small planes, otter and porter) I was paying for tandem, video and my up jump. I had to throw a fit when I got bumped from a load on the 4th tandem I paid for in a month. I said screw it and didn't go back to that dropzone. But then again, they were kinda clickish back then... Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 15. Thanks Wildcard. I agree. I have a 200# exit weight and I'm gonna do a progression down. I'm gonna start with a pd 265(AKA Hot air balloon). then pd 230 (still a huge canopy), then probably a sabre 170 and finally back to my Safire 160. I don't recover as fast as I did 10 years ago so I'll stay at each level as long as I need to. Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 16. I was at doc's place today. He's doing a first jump course this week and I'm gonna audit it for a refresher. Do a little hanging out in the harness and then do a jump with Tracey. Then we'll all assess and see where I am. Thanks! Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5

  18. I'm coming back into the sport after 9 years off. I found out today that the minimum jumps for different licenses changed since I left the sport. I got my C lic under the standards at the time. Will I have to meet new standards now, or do I get grandfathered? Any other rule changes that matter for the day to day jumper? Thanks "Ryder" Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  19. Mark, The problem isn't with skydiving and a hip replacement. You should be able to do it as long as you are conservative. The thing you need be aware of is the risk. If you fracture a normal hip you have all kinds of options for fixing it. If you "break" a total hip replacement, the fix will never be as good as you have now. A broken hip or knee prosthesis is a nightmare for an orthopedic surgeon and will almost certainly take you out of commission for at least a year, if not several. I AM NOT SAYING TO STAY OUT OF THE AIR, I'm just saying that you need to know the risk, that's all. Jeff Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 20. I have a few more details about the gear now. *The reserve is a Micro Raven 150. DOM is Feb 89. It has the Kevlar lines and they are still yellowish as they were in 98 when I started jumping it. 2 rides on this reserve and they are both mine. *Main is a Safire 160. It has less than 25 jumps on it. Has been stored correctly. I noticed that the Safire has been replaced with the Safire 2. Any safety reasons? Or just normal product updates. The Cypres was mfg in Nov of 99. By the time I could get it serviced and back, I'd only get a year out of it. So I guess it's a paperweight. Thanks in advance for any info you can lend. 21. Thanks Dave. When I left the sport, Cypress was the gold standard. Everything else was a copy. How are other brands of AAD viewed now? Also, I see that eclipse has gone out of business. Any issues arisen with the rigs in the past 10 yrs? Thanks Jeff Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  22. Ok, I haven't jumped since 2001. I ended with a "C" lic and 300-ish jumps. I want to get back in and I still own some gear. 1. I have a cypress. Can it be updated? 2. I bought a Safire 169 in 2001. Maybe 20 jumps on it and it has been stored in a cool closet. No sun exposure. 3. Raven-M (170?) Reserve- older than dirt, but was in good shape when I quit. I have 2 rides on it. Eclipse rig, 100 jumps on it. OK Let the advice roll!!! Thanks Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 23. When I was learning, in the hot summertime, I used to bring a whole cooler of cold waters to the DZ every weekend. It was not a beer, but just as good sometimes. Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
