  1. I don't know Ed, but that's damn nice. When I got back from Iraq in the early nineties, I didn't even get a free lunch!! Ed, Thank you for remembering our heros!!! Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5

  3. I've just come back into the sport after time off. I had 300 jumps + military SL before I left the sport. I also have a "C" license. I re-took a FJC and got in the harness to drill on emergency procedures. If I did it with my experience, you need to also. Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 5. You're right about the work involved. Kerlin had a staff and worked on it all year. As far as a location, I used to be a biker and I made the pilgrimages to Sturgis. If they can put up with 500,000 bikers, we ought to be able to find a place that can handle 5000 skydivers.....we're not children of the corn afterall. Even if we had to do it at a large DZ like Florida or Arizona, it could be special to get the entire skydiving world together. I loved the parties at WFFC. 6. I can see the expense. While the turbines were definately a draw for me having come from a cessna DZ, I really loved the festival atmosphere. All the manufacturers in one spot. The ability to jump with the biggest names in the sport. Thousands of jumps per day. I haven't seen anything that big at the DZ's. 7. I left the sport in 2001 and was sad to hear/read that the WFFC was gone when I came back. I'm not sure why no one has stepped up to organize a large gathering like this since. Has got to be money in it and usually there's 5 people lined up for ideas that make money. Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 8. I have more experience yet took a hard fall this weekend. I landed butt first on Saturday in a no wind landing. I have been limping around whining for 2 days...lol I'd give anything to have it over to PLF...or better yet prevent the issue to begin with....Things happen in this sport. You can decrease the odds of stuff happening, but some stuff is gonna happen anyway.. Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 10. This past weekend we were burning and turning!! 30 mins to 10500 at 104 degrees!!! Ahhh got to love Texas Jumping in the summer!!! 11. You can log it, why not??? It means something to you and it is an experience you've had. Put it down. It really won't mean much for the numbers, but why not put it in there. A year from now you'll be pushing 150 jumps and it'll be a good memory when you read about it. Blue Skies Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! 12. I don't want to comment on the skydiving portion. There are people on this forum more qualified to answer and I'll let them. From a human standpoint, I hate hearing about this type of thing in skydiving. Let's assume for the sake of argument that you're NOT an all around fuckup. (Please, this isn't meant to be offensive, just setting the stage for the discussion) This was a one time incident and you made a judgement call that others questioned. This is a fast paced sport that requires you to make a decision rapidly and often with incomplete information. The other party may have been still charged up with adreniline from the event. If this is the case, you should try to have a conversation with him once the situation settles down. If this is just his skygod complex and he's always a shi-thead, then I have 3 steps I follow. 1. Let the authority at the DZ know your having a problem. This is important in the event that a confrontation is unavoidable. It may be the only thing that keeps you from being kicked off the DZ for good if something happens. Most DZO's won't tolerate fighting and someone will get banned if a fight happens. 2. Just try to avoid the person. Easy on a big DZ but impossible at a small Cessna DZ. This might require you jumping elsewhere for a while. 3. I'm a firm believer in trying to avoid conflict, but I'm also not going to be treated like crap. Especially during a sport that is supposed to be recreational for me. My father was the last person that got away with yelling at me. (I'm sure I deserved it) My bosses don't, my wife doesn't and no one else will either. Once I've alliviated my conscience by trying to be bigger man, and once the confrontation is UNAVOIDABLE, strike first, strike hard, and don't stop until the threat is abated. My two cents worth. 13. "Skydive Houston has the best skydiver nightlife around, an inground pool, a goat for a mascot and some of the coolest skydiver's around. Its a turbine dropzone with the vibe of a cessna dz. 14. I used to be a DZ gypsy in 1999-2001. At first I loved it, getting to see all the different DZ's. I went to Quincy, Chicago, Florida, AZ, Perris and of course the home DZ's in Texas and Arkansas. After a while I found it kinda lonely. If I just popped in for a few days it's hard to get to know anyone. Skydivers are "friendly", but are hard to become "friends" with. Often you end up jumping alone because no one really knows your skills. And when you are a newby (100-200 jumps) with only moderate skills, you are a little afraid to mess up someone elses jump. OF COURSE, it helps to be a hottie...(cstaffa)...lol Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5
  15. Icarus used to advertise that you could pick your size. Any size. Guess that make sense seeing as they didn't know how to measure!! (just kidding) I ordered it as a 160...I have no clue why, it was 9 years ago. According to what I could find online it's really more like a 148. (-8%) I spent so much and it has less than 100 jumps on it. I hope to be able to use it again. I just want to transition safely. I jump at a small DZ and there aren't a lot of canopies to choose from. I'm jumping the only student rig and it's a PD 240. I have access to a Sabre 170, but I need like a 190 for the transition. 16. I own a Safire 160 with under 100 jumps on it. I bought it new in 01. If all goes well, I want to get back to it. Thanks for the advice. Ryder Take chances, just do it with all the information to make good decisions!! Muff Brother# 2706 Dudeist Skydiver# 121.5

  18. I have about 300 jumps, but I've been out of the sport for 9 years. I'm currently jumping a run out PD230 (NO FLARE) and want to transition down to my Safire 160. I'm thinking a Sabre 190 (or similar) next for about 50 jumps. How do people do this? Where do they find canopies for short term use? Are there places to do short term leases? 20. I jumped with Jeffery a bunch back around 2000, but he was into freeflying and I wasn't really good enough at flying to hang. Haven't seen any of them in 10 years, but they are all excellent. 23. I'd never make "Skydiving" recommendations on here. There are so many people here that are more qualified for that, but.. I've worked in Orthopedics for over 20 years so this is my area of expertise. This response is just opinion and you should only follow medical advice from a doctor that you are actually seeing. I have a friend that is one of the top shoulder surgeons in the world. One day my shoulder was hurting and I had a small tear. I asked him how in the world I could have done this. He replied, "you're male and over the age of 21". Active people tend to make small tears in their cuff. And since you are a weightlifter, it is even more common. In other words this is very common. I agree with Andy, tell the doctor everything. Also if the surgeon's first instint is to do surgery, look for a second opinion. Many of these injuries will heal on their own. Conservative treatment should always be the first choice. You can always have surgery later, but after you've been cut, it has opened the door for more problems later. Also, don't expect it to be perfect. EVER. It's only new once. But treatment can make it better. If you do end up with surgery, find a doc that does shoulders on regular basis. If they don't do 50+ per year, find someone else. Also, I'm sure you will have to go get an MRI. It will usually determine with extreme accuracy the extent of your injury. Any shoulder surgery will probably sideline you from jumping for 2+ months. Good luck and feel free to PM me is you need a translator after the appt. 24. Though Mike probably won't remember me, I do have a bunch of jumps at WTS from 99-01. He's always run a class "A" shop that is focused on safety and giving good value to the skydiver.
