  1. Looking for people's thoughts on Aerodyne Research's new "mini-force" riser release system. Does it really reduce the pull force necessary to cut away?
  2. It's coming down again in Ulster Co., NY-might have to dig the car out again but on the other hand-school just got cancelled (feel like a kid again). Time to start drinking!
  3. If the legstraps are just barely tight enough when pulled all the way-they're too big. You want them as tight as possible (without being uncomfortable, of course). Some modern canopies, especially the high performance ones, are very receptive to "leg stap" input, you can actually steer some of them with only the legstraps. Opening shock is amplified by loose straps. Also, what if you lose weight? Check into getting the pads re-sized.
  4. In keeping with the "attack the post, not the post-er" all I can say is that that post is moronic!
  5. If this raid or whatever was completely capricious in nature I could see where some people might not think that they're tax dollars were being correctly spent and therefore bitch about it. You can't have the police deciding which laws they will or will not enforce. That leads to even more serious problems.
  6. If this was they're idea-yes they were wrong but 9 out of 10 times the police are only responding to a complaint they have received from a citizen. If that was the case, they were only doing what they had to. The police don't have the power to make or change existing laws. If enough people don't like a particular law, get together, elect the right people and get it taken off the books!
  7. Not sure (thats why the ?) Think it was the name, or something like it, I jumped while at Quincy. Looked something like a Skyvan. That whole trip is a little fuzzy.
  8. Cessna 182 Otter Super Otter Turbo Porter Bell 412 chopper Hot air balloon Casa Skyvan King Air Mullin's King Air Caravan Grand Caravan DC-3 Pitts Special Stearman Skytruck ? Super Constellation Martin 404
  9. Those things are incredibly heavy-I'm still carrying a scar from when one fell on my finger (the result of a 12 year olds curiosity in a construction site). Imagine the force needed to send something that massive flying through the air!
  10. It's typical-I think it has something to do with the fact that you're brain can't quite comprehend a fall from 8,500 ft but it can certainly wrap itself around falling off the roof.
  11. Jumping with other people make it much easier to see if you're backsliding, not staying level, etc.
  12. Depends-if a fun jump, I'd say make the points as "true" as possible. If during competition, cheat away! Anything to cut time.
  13. Beer: grew up on Budweiser but almost anything will do Mixed Drink: Gin & Tonic Liquor: Irish Mist
  14. If you get to the northeast at all, check out the Ranch if you can-lots of planes, good people and non-stop jumping. Also, if possible, go to Skydive Long Island around the fall season. It has some of the most beautiful scenery. Especially then. Makes the Long Island Expressway bearable.
  15. A few years ago we tried that at the Ranch. We called it the Cop Drop. Didn't work out-too many differing skill levels and basically nobody had jumped with each other before. It's hard to control all those guys with all that testosterone flying aroud.
  16. Does retired count? Left the NYPD in 1998.
  17. The hell with David Hasselhoff......now if Pamela Anderson was on........
  18. At the Ranch, during the winter, it's usually a 182 and a Porter. Summertime 3 or 4 Otters/Super Otters are added. When I started on Skydive L.I. they only had a 182. I still like that plane. They're only big elevators.
  19. I've seen that a few times, there's a scientific name for that phenomenon but I forget it. The first time I saw it was when I was doing CReW one time. Scared the shit out of me! Now I love it!
