What's a few thousand lives here and there? After all, they're doing their job of keeping America and the world safe, and everyone is proud to have a hero in their family. Next thing you know the Costa Rican army will become a threat!

Everything encourages or leads to black market or trafficking or smuggling. Any attempt by the government to set control measures or policies, no matter how fool-proof they seem, will eventually be overtaken. I don't know if the above made any sense, but it's just like with money: no matter how hard the government tries to come up with clever "unforgeable" bills, there will be someone out there willing and able to forge it. No matter what the tax strategy is, someone will find a way to find a loop hole. No matter how high or strong the wall between our Countries, immigrants will find a way across because there is always someone, at least one, corrupt enough to allow it. Enrique

Yes. We just need to give them a real reason to stop (fines) and take away the reason they're doing it (cheap labor). The cheap labor will ALWAYS be there. It is standard commercial practice: If you charge $5.00, I will charge $4.99 to get the job. It is not only cheap labor, it is cheap qualified labor. As long as there are people willing to hire cheap labor (regardless of immigration status), there will be hordes of immigrants (illegal and otherwise) coming to your Country... you have a better economy! It's like drug smuggling: as long as there are consumers, drug traffickers will find a way to sell their stuff. Or what do you suggest, eradicating poverty (not going to happen) and illegal substances (slim chance) in the world?

Exactly. The way I see the problem is very simple: supply and demand. Perhaps if companies and individuals stopped hiring illegal immigrants they would stop crossing illegaly.

It is not walls and fences that you have to make stronger, but your immigration policies. Apply them across the board and you will see a difference: no illegal immigrants should mean no illegal immigrants, whether you need them to work the fields or the kitchens of your Country... ALL of them, out! Americans, Europeans and Asian alike.

Well, you will have to settle for a president that "accidentally" kills eastern european civilians in mass bombings of their countries. And, don't forget... Mexico is part of America! ... really, check a map. Oh, and there ARE borders, very long, tall and solid ones by the way; they run all the way into the Pacific Ocean.

The soldiers are not to blame, but the commanding officers and people coming up with the "strategies to fight" terrorism. Billions of dollars and increasing stress and fear is the cost of the alleged fight against terrorists..... they are becoming stronger!

Now that's not the result of a very good job... terrorism up 29% compared to 2005. Something is not right about the military efforts.
