I flew an S3 last summer when I had about 120 GTi jumps and was very current. I did 6 jumps on it and did fantastic times (for me) on it. The downside was that I was in agony by the end of the day and I found it quite tricky to fly - a bit like riding a barrel. In February I got my V-1, jumped it while very uncurrent and got even better times and a groundspeed that is just silly. I find it very easy to fly, almost GTi-like, both in terms of stability and fatigue. However, I am sure that if you wait a bit, the S5 "Random Greek Letter" will be even better, and then the V-2 "SuperFang" will be better than that and then......will the squabbles ever end? If you want the best wingsuit that you can order today, its a V-1, especially if you intend BASEing it. But what do I know?

Does this explain why PC oscillations are a major issue at only medium delays? Short delays have a oscillation period that is longer than the opening time and so have no effect and long ones have such a high frequency that nothing actually happens to the large inertial mass of the packjob? You can fit (just) if you put a back of one of the luxury padded chairs on the lines just above the links and then flip the container back over the chair. The packing tabs on my 265 Troll just reached the door. Nice place to stay but the coffee sucks. Jules

Selected highlights from a long post DW made on BLiNC about the Potato Bridge PC-mal fatality: However we do know that bridles of 5-6 feet in length work well at terminal velocity. This is because the majority of bridles used in skydiving are 5 – 6 feet in length (measured from pin to p/c attachment). The greater the airspeed, the longer the burble that trails behind a human body. By this logic we could surmise that a bridle of less than 5-6 feet in length would clear the burble and work at sub-terminal airspeeds (if it had enough snatch force to open the container). According to various sources, the average human body in a box position at terminal velocity will generate no more than 5 feet of burble. The length of the burble decreases at lower airspeeds. Turbulence wake extends further than the burble however pilot chutes do not have a history of failing to inflate in turbulence wake (as seen in skydiving). Jules

Even with these short delays the effect is different for different jumpers. On two occasions I have counted as Gus (6'4" tall and about 25kg) has exited before me, got to 4 and a bit and started whincing (ok, I'll be honest, smiling) in anticipation before it opens and he's met me in the landing area walking normally and wondering what the fuss is about. 7 day BASE trip to South Africa, 5 days with no checked-in luggage. Fortunately I had my rig as carry-on. Never had any problems doing this (travelling in Europe, US and SA on US and European carriers) and I now put my skydiving rig in my stash bag as carry-on when I take that abroad. I have (accidently) taken hook knives, both Jack-the-Ripper and little ones, through security without comment. Jules
