Tail Bounce on Front riser approach
relyon replied to kremins's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
That and perhaps the line length. Heavier loading (1.4-1.8 - fairly high for a 7 cell) and shorter lines (8-8.5') make the flare timing trickier. Bob -
Tail Bounce on Front riser approach
relyon replied to kremins's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I use straight in front riser approaches (extra speed is practically a necessity with Lightnings) and brake wraps all the time. I just wrap before risering and leave it that way. I'm not trying to swoop through, and I suspect that the difference in efficiency makes all the difference. Bob -
Tail Bounce on Front riser approach
relyon replied to kremins's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
Thanks for the explanations. Now I understand the point you're making, but I don't think longer risers is the only option. Wouldn't taking a wrap or two of the excess allow for full flare? Bob -
Tail Bounce on Front riser approach
relyon replied to kremins's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
I must be missing something. To my knowledge, the relative placement of the brake guide rings to the riser tops is the same. How does changing risers change how much extra steering line there is? Why not simply lengthen the brake line loop-toggle distance? Bob -
Dear Sunshine, You're advice is clearly in great demand. There's a rumor you're even going to have your own forum soon. Is that true? Bob

Turnabout? WTF? You live in a state that wants to charge you for the electricity you are willing to donate to them. Is that turnabout too? I have no point in bringing up an irrelavent comment (you live in CA) other than to counter an equally irrelavent one (I post in dropzone.com forums). What is your point? Bob
-
Forum? Holy shit! "Dear Sunshine..." was just a hot topic a few seconds ago. Damn, she really gets around! Bob

As you can see from my icon pic, I'm very capable of smiling. I just don't see the humor in implying that sex should be used as a tool in relationships. Perhaps I should put things another way. It seems there a number of expectations gals have of guys regarding V-day, many of them detailed here. So, what should guys expect from a gals on V-day and why? Bob

That's not much of an explanation, and a trivially over-simplified at that. I don't slam the French or any other nation/culture/people. I take quite the offense when other's aim comments at me because I am American. It particularly goads me when those comments are regarding events that occurred before I was born. Bob

actually, they probably won't get screwed I guess I fail to see the humor here. Sex? Is that what doing something for your sweetheart (either gender) is supposed to be about? Bob

Should U.S. Troops be removed from around the world?
relyon replied to Gravitymaster's topic in The Bonfire
Uh, yes I can and do say it's bashing, but I'll not waste time arguing here. Rather, I ask you again: Why do you why do want "US to continue playing Daddy"? Bob -
Should U.S. Troops be removed from around the world?
relyon replied to Gravitymaster's topic in The Bonfire
Why? So you can continue to bash it like here and here? Bob -
By his own admission, Casto came very close to launching a preemptive strike on the US with the same "deterrent" missles. There was a US naval blockade as well that definitely influenced (some might say decided) the outcome. Bob

Fitness and Skydiving project
relyon replied to Rookeskydiver's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
CRW (especially sequential) can be very physically demanding and improves all of the things mentioned. One most definitely gets in better shape doing it. Bob -
That's a pretty weak argument if that is your only point, IMO. By the same token, if spending billions in US aid around the world is good, then the US has been really good too. Neither Saddam Hussein or Iraq can say the same. Bob

You've made this satement in one form or another in numerous forums for years now. What exactly is your point? Bob

It was cut away. Talked to Andy yesterday and saw the it - TINY. I've seen bigger stunt kites. The video was great. He's hoping to get a couple more jumps in today if the fog lifts. Bob
-
I firmly disagree. Girls do just as many stupid ego-driven things as guys. Jumping high performance heavily loaded canopies isn't one of them. Bob
-
Looks like a gas! After the 8th WPC in CF competition, the organizers had a couple "jump from the Mi-8 into the lake" loads. It's the only jump I've logged with no gear. Bob
-
You need to do CRW. Specifically rotations. All the fun of a drive by shooting without the legal fees or jail time. If rots just aren't enough, try wrapping #3, then cutting away. Bob
-
Yes, it's easy to do stack docks with cascaded center lines. No need to reline for such casual CRW use. Spectra is less abrasive and burns less the dacron. My biggest concern is a jumper suspended under a collapsed microlined canopy. That's when micro is going to really dig in and hurt the person holding them. For that reason I stick to nothing more than 2 stacks (not planes) when doing CRW with microline. Bob

Out in the garage with the rest of my skydiving stuff. Bob

I have the standard metal reserve ripcord and soft cutaway pillow setup. No problems in 7 cutaways. Works for me. Bob
