  1. At 5'10" the length of the V306 felt more comfortable than the V319, I know people taller than myself who preferred the V319.
  2. Apparently Fluid Wings will be at Skydive Delmarva in Delaware this weekend and... "might even have some not yet released "items" with us for those interested in getting a sneak peak" ....perhaps somebody can report back here?! ;-)
  3. I believe both factors are important, there are some great animations illustrating this here... http://diverdriver.com/freefall-drift-simulator/
  4. A question for the old school propeller heads out there...to me this looks like some complete badass can't be bothered with things as mundane as landing before tweaking his engine setup but what the hell is he really doing?! Edit to actually include the damn photo!
  5. I managed to do this with my Vortex 2 sized for a 135 sq ft canopy, I think canopy selection has a far greater role than the container. It went like this: Quadra V-Tech 170 Pilot ZPX 150 Sabre2 135 Sabre2 120 The V-Tech was an old student canopy that I rented with many many jumps on it and it packed really small. The pilot also packed small due to the ZPX, the Sabre 2 135 was a perfect fit as you'd expect and the 120 is safe but I can't go any smaller.
  6. There is one hell of a list, not quite sure what any of it means though... http://winddance.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/04/Freestyle300.pdf All seems a bit old school but you asked for 90 and here it is... http://winddance.com/getting-started-with-freestyle-skydiving/ These guys are a bit more new school but the outfits are nowhere near as awesome! ;-) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IZwOpqqpn3s
  7. Was a little surprised this weekend during a 4 way mixed head-up head-down jump at when the head down guys seemed to shoot off early before break off. Of course on the ground it turns out they were wondering why the hell us sit flyers were hanging about so long. I think everybody was using L&B altis, so its seems the lag of 2-3 seconds was just due to the orientation and burble. Is this a known thing? Thanks!
  8. Never used it but this thing looks like what you want... http://www.skydivemag.com/article/app-launched-for-video-debrief
  9. What do you guys think about this release system, it seems to open up the liner and release quite easily.... Test: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MtBXZOQBbKw Fitting: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dGOZxeBpk0c
  10. I jumped in France as a non French licenced jumper last summer, my wing-loading that while meeting my home regulations is higher than permitted in France. One DZ let me jump my own gear a second insisted that I use their rental gear. The rental gear was shit, first two rigs had leg straps that repeatedly came completely undone when I was fitting....sunscreen apparently......and the bungy snapped on the third when I was sit flying. I'd rather take my chances with my own canopy!
  11. Last year I flew Pilot's (170 & 150), Safire 2 (139 & 129), Sabre 2's (150 & 135) and I would agree that aggressiveness increases Pilot=>Safire2=>Sabre2. I was fortunate to get to test quite a few canopies, if you can get some advice and then get some demos!
  12. http://www.dailymotion.com/video/x43hqek We at least need some video.....who wants to be a super-floater?!
  13. Smile! No seriously, smiling leads to decrease in the stress-induced hormones that negatively affect your physical and mental health. So I suggest grinning like a loon on your ride up!
  14. Nah....number of attacks in WE and NA are way down since the 90's, these ISIS guys aren't a patch on the bad old IRA and ETA. Let's just quit the fear-mongering and get on with our lives.
  15. You've got the adding rotation sorted and clearly not giving up on the gates so just try and focus on trusting your rears......hang on what do you mean this isn't soFPiDaRF?!
  16. But there is change....in addition to the warming trends seen from satellites, ground stations & balloons we have physical trends that are very likely in response: Sea Level Rising http://sealevel.colorado.edu/content/2015rel4-global-mean-sea-level-time-series-seasonal-signals-retained Arctic Sea Ice Extent Decreasing http://nsidc.org/arcticseaicenews/charctic-interactive-sea-ice-graph/ Now whether this is pissing off the Polar Bears is anyone's guess as they're a pain in the ass to keep track of.
  17. Are you referring to the satellite data? There are 4 groups that have worked on providing a correct (Diurnal correction for when a reading for a given location is taken during different times of the day) satellite data set 3 of which support warming (NOAA, RSS & the new GMC study) and only one older study by the UAH which is contradictory. Surface thermometers, weather balloons & ocean buoys are also all consistent with global warming. I think it's pretty clear cut that things are getting hotter, the tricky part is separating natural effects like El Nino from things like greenhouse gases.
  18. My "geek data" outrage got the better of me.....what was I thinking trying to make a sensible post. Thanks for explaining!
  19. I'm genuinely surprised about the idea that the satellite TLT trend doesn't show warming? As far as I can tell the most current data set is the RSS which shows an increase since satellite data became available in the 1980's. http://www.remss.com/measurements/upper-air-temperature The stratosphere cooling is consistent with overall global warming so that's not controversial right? Balloon data (Radiosonde) is in agreement with the TLT data although apparently the data from the tropics is all screwed up for a reason I don't understand. http://www.remss.com/measurements/upper-air-temperature/validation I don't buy the argument of the guy in the wattsupwiththat link as the dude is plotting atmospheric temperature on top of surface data which reeks of BS. But I'd be interested is seeing where info on the cooling trend is (seriously this isn't sarcasm). Now whether this is due to human activities is a trickier question (I reckon it is personally) but it seems pretty clear it is getting warmer.
  20. I've been using the "alternate method" with my Vortex 2 (in fact this is the method specified in the manual) but without leaving the extra slack as discussed here. After seeing this video I started adding some slack but inadvertently caused a secondary issue. I had in fact left too much slack and this bulk prevented the pin cover seating correctly resulting in it coming open during free fall, thankfully no harm was done. I haven't found a sweet spot where I have enough bridle slack to prevent this pilot chute in tow malfunction and still seat my pin cover correctly. I had a chat with some more experienced jumpers at the DZ and now I'm not adding slack but am being careful not to jam the bridle to deep under the flaps. So watch out and of course any suggestions?!
  21. Hi Kalrigan, At the risk of being branded a fool with too few jumps and a big mouth I'm going to stick my neck out and say that maybe a few solo aren't a terrible idea. Navigation is most certainly critical, sure thats always true and nobody wants to backslide during a head up jump but the risk can be mitigated by flying perpendicular to jump run or as discussed here.... http://parachutistonline.com/feature/angle-flying Anyway, maybe chat to the guys at your DZ. I realise they don't angle fly but if they're confident in your navigation skills and based on what they know of your tracking they feel safe being on a load with you then why not. Either way coaching is going to be great if you can get it otherwise you'll pick up a bunch of bad habits, I'm very grateful for all the help I've received. I particularly liked the tip in the article about rolling the shoulders, it's going to be weird but arching is exactly what you shouldn't do. p.s. I've met some great angle flyers with well over 1000 jumps who can't fly head down.
  22. Man you're in the wrong country, FFlyers have been super friendly here in Belgium and have let me on plenty of jumps.....belly flyers too......now I think of it the wingusiters were also pretty damn welcoming but I had to turn them down due to jump numbers. That said working on skills and training solos is much appreciated by everyone, wrecking every jump you go on would be taking the piss. p.s. jumps are cheap over here to!
  23. That's the sign that greeted me on the morning of my first AFF at Sebastian!
  24. I'm new to skydiving and before jumping I'd never though about how much fun flying a canopy could be, free fall.....amazing....but nobody told me flying a canopy could be such a blast. I started realsing it's a discipline in it's own right and reading about drills to understand how your canopy responds......then sadly I started learning about canopy collisions and how unpredictability costs lives. So, here is my question, when is it safe and acceptable to make turns, run drills, learn to fly? Is a hop and pop the only correct option or are there other safe situations to experiment?
  25. It was a little ambiguous but I think you're correct, the riser won't disconnect in the case of a reserve activation only. Some googling tells me that this functionality is based on a Colins Lanyard (had to look that one up too!), which if I'm reading the diagram right can't disconnect anything without a departing main.
