  1. excellent post! read a similar one a couple of years ago. exactly why I will never get a soft reserve handle or a harness with hip and/or chest rings. remindes me that I should get an aad however. I'll get one with a swoop mode. rm
  2. what about moving the catseye closer to the canopy a bit - I'm told it makes the Velocity open better. rm
  3. I tend tp agree with you. Made me think of classic monty python lines..... Brian: I'm not the Messiah! Will you please listen? I am not the Messiah, do you understand? Honestly! Girl: Only the true Messiah denies His divinity. Brian: What? Well, what sort of chance does that give me? All right! I am the Messiah! Followers: He is! He is the Messiah! Brian: Now, fuck off! [silence] Arthur: How shall we fuck off, O Lord?
  4. no, I know it will open. however, I wonder about landing it. so now I am in the market for a used SMART reserve.
  5. So that makes it okay to deprive law abiding citizens, who dutifuly registered their handguns, of their property, their sport, and their self defense? yes, that is what the PM is proposing and he is doing it to try to get re-elected. So the Liberal Party figures it will get more votes than it will lose due to it - I would tend to agree. notice all the vocal posters are not Canadian? that shows how much we really care about the issue. the bigger issue is healthcare. rm
  6. I think we have heard it all before...handguns are not intended to hit a target (like rifles), hunting (rifles or shotguns). they are for killing people. the whole self defence thing is a tough call - if you need a gun in order to stay safe that is like a war zone... rm
  7. Perhaps you need to understand. Canada has some of the largest game animals in North America. Hunting produces revenue for your country both from residents and non-residents who travel from all over to hunt. Your statement is one of the most ignorent I've read to date. I had a friend die in a automobile crash. Mabey we should ban cars being driven outside working hours and limit those who need them for work use.. This would save far more lives than banning guns. Oh wait, you mabey drive a car so that makes no sense to you. What about all you fellow Canadians that own Firearms? Fuck em you say? Absurd thinking take it easy...he is talking about baning handguns. Not rifles. To own a handgun up here currently it is very tough. I only know one guy with a handgun now and it needs to stay locked up a a gun club I think - you need a permit to move it. Meanwhile, almost every day there is a shooting in Toronto - gang related mostly - I suppose all the guns are stolen or come from the US. I don't think it is a big deal up here. I used to hunt as a kid but would not think about owning a gun now. rm
  8. I'd agree with a total ban. From what I understand it is very restrictive now. You have to understand this is Canada not the US. rm
  9. except continous lines increase drag bigtime - even if they are thin. If it were better PD and Icarus would be doing the same! rm
  10. Depends on who you ask. I'd say all the major rigs are safe. whether you live or die sometimes depends on your behavior not your equipment. If someone told me they were buying a certain rig because the reserve opens in 75 ft after cut away I'd say why do you need that? Avoid the situation (like canopy collision, cutting away at an unsafe altitude, grabing cut away handle only) it the first place. Don't rely on equipment to save your ass.
  11. I am upgrading from my 150-M to one of the following (same size). Which would you recommend... RMAX SMART PDR it will be used and yes cost is a factor... rm
  12. racers = lightweight what does your power racer weigh in at again??? found your old post.........10.5 lbs!!! rm
  13. first, read all of Chuck Blue's (skymonkeyONE) posts. then give MEL a call. He will set you up. don't use the quick disconnects - Chuck has explained why. for the connection from the lanyard to the bag I use a slink which I think is pretty common. First jump on my RDS I had the "full" system hooked up. that was a rush. worked perfect - I will only use the removable slider now until the weather warms up.... rm
  14. quality can be higher places you would not think of. check out this article...... Toyota Chief believes India more quality-conscious than Japan Few people connect India to quality. Agreed, India is one of the most looked after markets for brilliant engineers but when it comes to Indian products, you find a lack of demand for quality in consumers. That is why we see cars like Tata Indica and the likes doing so well here. However, the Chairman of Nippon Keidanren & Chairman of Toyota Motor Corporation, Okuda Hiroshi think otherwise. Hiroshi has just said that he thinks that that the economies of India and Thailand were growing fast because of the focus on quality in manufacturing in these countries. He even believes that India and Thailand would soon overtake Japan if Japanese companies do not pay attention of quality. Hiroshi said while speaking at the meeting organized by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII): “Despite appeals at the highest level to pay greater attention to quality Japanese companies are not showing much interest in winning the Deming Prize while the quality movement was spreading fast in India and many companies are winning the coveted Deming Prize”. Toyota is one of the biggest makers of automobiles in the world and is on way to overtake GM in the next couple of years. The company is known for their reliable and high quality products worldwide.
  15. I would say get used to this sort of thing. in 20 years I'll bet half the cars sold in NA will be made in china, we will need to move on to other industries I suppose. For now my gear is from Florida (JumpShack), Tennesse (PA) and Spain (Icarus).......
  16. My local DZ has a U206 with no step. I think it is OK for tandems (yes slow), not bad for S/L (yes lots of line twists) but that is about it. also, fine for hop n pops! rm
  17. do they make them lighter than before. I didn't like them for that reason like hooknswoop stated... rm
  18. ...Or in can be snagged against some sticking part of an airplane... Also, my index finger got stuck in the PVC pipe/tube handle after I pulled on one jump! Talk about surprise - my right hand fully extended, palm open, and PC "attached" to my finger! I shook it off and it deployed normally... But it was scary. After that someone advised me to put a wine bottle cork (which is very lightwieght and provides very snug fitting) into the PVC pipe/tube to avoid this problem... I am not sure a hackey is more secure than the PVC tube. The tube is lighter, harder and I think less likely to snag on the inside of the plane. I always go for the tube because the hackey seems like a rip off when it is time to pay. I use gloves in the winter, I never wear heavy gloves - as thin as possible to avoid fumbling if in trouble... rm
  19. why do we reline any canopy with spectra anymore? If I had a stiletto, I'd get it relined in Vectran. rm
  20. I'd say even a slow twin otter is better than a porter. much more comforatble. however, nice size of plane for a smallish Canadian DZ. And I would say the coolest looking plane going. It would be perfect for my local DZ. Congrats! SMiles
  21. Ontario is closing all coal fired power plants in 2007 as part of the "plan" to meet Kyoto. I wish the NE states would do the same since most of the crap comes from there. Land should be used for food not fuel. The answer is hydrogen generated from renewables (with some help from nuclear).
  22. and that's four more jumps than I would have made in any other Canadian city not true. just N of Toronto area we jump all year. I got 4 jumps in yesterday. A Nice day at about 7C. rm
  23. If I ever win big big money I would buy an efficently turbine a/c and lease it out to my local little dz to break even or make a little cash. Right now that would be a new PAC750, a converted turbine single otter or maybe even a twin otter. rm
