No, they cannot call you that late. Check your own state's debt collection laws, which may or may not be tougher than the Federal laws. Debt collectors are nearly bullet proof because there are little or no penalties for their illegal and often unethical practices. Some will call neighbors you don't even know, churches within a certain radius of your home, and are trained to be aggressive to the point of threatening on the phone. Yes, there are folks out there who are trying to escape paying honest debts, but there are also honest people whose names are being tarnished by debt collectors. I hear horror stories daily since I work for a state agency that often receives calls regarding debt collection practices. How do we stop them? Write your legislators and INSIST they write and pass the laws to protect us from these unscrupulous/illegal practices. Laws that include civil penalties for violations and are enforceable. I agree with this statement. Definitely talk with the 'offender' one on one, if that fails to solve the problem, speak with your S&TA. And, as always, out of earshot of everyone else, students, other staff, fun jumpers, tourists, dogs, etc. It is unprofessional to discuss business matters/differences of opinion, that are dz ops related where anyone can hear it. :) ***************** Attitude is everything!

Well now, some folks are stupid, but some are just undereducated, elderly possibly (and they grew up with a different set of ethics), and/or are too trusting (which may be viewed as stupid). The ones that think they are getting something for nothing, are working an angle for themselves, I don't have any pity for their loss. I do feel badly for the others. It appears we now have scammers surfing our sites and what was once a skydivers' small world has been opened up to the creeps and the scum buckets. And for that, we have to be wary of each other. Sad. I've done three business deals through dz.com, all with personal checks, two honoring mine and shipping the canopies in advance of receiving my personal check. BEWARE~!~ I work for a state agency that has been dealing with the sad stories of folks who have been hookwinked by the Nigerian (alleged royal gems and money) scam and the Canadian Lottery scam for years! Congratulations! Being a coach will make you a better skydiver because you really have to pay attention, be situationally aware, 100% of the time! It's a blast watching the look on the 'just off of AFF' faces. Here's a few suggestions that you might find useful: 1. Tell 'em they have two important missions on the coaching jumps: PULL (on time/stable) and have fun, the rest is extra. It helps them realize it's not a pass/fail event and they can start to relax more and get into learning the new skills. 2. If there's turbulence on the way to altitude while passing through what will be open canopy time, have them note at what altitude it occurs so they won't be surprised on the way back down under canopy. Unexpected turbulence can freak some folks out... 3. Suggest they get in the habit of keeping their hand on their seat belt buckle release in case of emergency and they need to get out quickly (are INSTRUCTED to do so). Who wants to be fumbling along the floor amidst chaos... 4. KISS. Keep it simple, Sweetie. Plan the dive, dive the plan. Be predictable for your student. 5.
