Performace Designs has a great demo program to take advantage of along with the run down on flight characteristics on all their canopies. With out ever seeing you fly or know where you are in the whole scheme of things check out the spectre or shillohette (sp) as possibilities. www.performancedesigns.com Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

My factory diver saved me from a pretty hefty encounter with both a tree and the ground on multiple occassions, but maybe i just have a hard head and am unbelievably lucky check out some kayaking helmets too, i have an open faced one from shred ready but i think i remember seeing some full face stuff. You also have to remember they don't only make civilian rigs but also military. i just received my 2nd UPT container and it was definitely worth the wait. i spend a lot of time in the harness under canopy and it's the most comfortable rig i've worn and the quality control that goes into it is amazing. Just starting to "swoop"...advice?
superstu replied to Kynan1's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
you two realize you're talking about two different variable's right? i mean you're talking about the proper way to progress through the swooping stages but at the same time talking about what turn is better to do in traffic/ which has less blind spots. the fact of the matter is every turn including straight in approaches has blind spots, but if you're doing a HP landing in the middle of traffic then you're just plane taking your life and OTHERS lives in your hands. learning to swoop should be done, as stated by others in previous posts, either on hop n pop's or high pulls where the least amount of canopy traffic/ distractions are prevalent. that being said i personally think 180's are an integral part of learning to do "bigger turns" (ie 270+) because when you do a 270, 450, 630, 810, you're still going to do a 180 at some point. 180's also help you learn how to cope with the disorientation involved with the bigger turns and help you recognize where those blind spots are. not to mention the fact that jumping from a 90 starting around 400ish feet to a 270 that typically starts 300+ feet higher is an enormous jump. lastly, the question was asked "how do you bail from a 180?" the answer is simple, let up on the fronts and get back in the landing pattern with everyone else or if you're low stab those yellow things called toggles. I have 2 custom microns now and love them both. These rigs are super comfy, 99% of my jumps are swooping or canopy related and so I spend a lot of time in the harness and with the spacer foam, magnetic risers, and all stainless hardware, nothing beats it. fantastic rig from a fantastic company.

i personally like them and have them in both 23" and 25". i prefer the 25" for the bigger canopies and the 23" for the smaller canopies Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

with the loui loops there's so much material the slink has to go around that it barely fits with the type 17, with type 8 it would just be way to much fabric to get the slink around. also, what everyone else said applies as well. i've only heard about 1 PST event which rumor has it to be directly before US Nationals. if you want some competition experience, that is nearly PRO level, i would go to the last few FLCPA meets. Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

Ground Launching, Risers v. Brakes
superstu replied to northcave's topic in Swooping and Canopy Control
check out the spire manual, it can answer a lot of questions people typically have: http://www.performancedesigns.com/Spire/spire.asp Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down -
unfortunetly the pressure and the amount of fabric you're trying to pull down might be too much for you. there are ways to reduce the front riser pressure but in this situation where you're going against the wind those ways wouldn't help you much. the best thing i could say would be to either a) don't jump in those kinds of conditions, or b) if you do find yourself in those situations get small to reduce body drag and if needed look for outs. adding weight is not needed to gain more power, in fact right now it might actually do you more harm then good when it comes to learning the canopy. proper technique will nearly always beat out added weight, and if you want an example look at jaymo. there are plenty of guys out there that weigh more then jay but because of jay's technique he is able to not only generate more power but maintane it as well. with that being said what you're going through right now is normal. you are making a transition from "conventional" canopies to cross braced canopies and there is a definite learning curve involved with that. the best peice of advice you could have right now to build power is to explore the full range of the canopy, both the high and low speed ranges, do many high pulls practicing your perfect turns to see what not only the canopy does but what you do physically and mentally. if you do that with each canopy you own no matter if you change manufactures or downsize your learning progression will go a lot quicker Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
