  1. VC 71 - probably the most fun to fly canopy, and when you hit it the thing is amazing. loading 3.0 VC 79 - best all around canopy I currently own. has the speed of the 71 but a little stronger recovery arc allowing me to carry more speed more consistantly. loading 2.55-2.7 VC 90 - Fantastic on the water. accuracy, wingover's, freestyle, doesn't matter, just feels like you're riding on rails going across the water. and up here in Colorado it goes faaaarrr. loading 2.2 - 2.35 If i could only fly one canopy for competition and everyday jumping it would probably be a VC 84. i think i would be satisfied with the speed and its ability on the water. i won't fly a jvx or vx cause of how I was treated by the company and the xaos i have never really had any luck swooping them. 8. We had a good turnout for our first event of the season. Ten competitors came out to participate at this initial event with some pretty big names being there. We based this competition after the Florida league so we did two rounds of dist, speed, accuracy, with some people having it be their first comp and others, well not exactly their first event. We were lucky enough to get some volunteers for the judging staff which included a National judge, and Stuart Schoenfeld was coaching at this initial event. Overall the placings were as follows: 1. Nick Batch 2. Dan Raymond 3. Justin Thornton 4. Boyd Wilkinson 5. Brady Kane 6. CJ Hartswigen 7. Brian Ball 8. Kevin 9. Jeff Mullin 10. JVH Updates for future events and pics can be found on either the Slipstream Airsports facebook page or the Colorado Canopy Club facebook page. 10. this is a really good post and really hits home for me. actually i recently got very lucky under my Comp Velo 71 loaded at 3.0. The short version is i was about 1-2 seconds from complete black out after a violent opening and spinning. i was somehow able to pull negative G's, which is blood going to the brain and not the feet and which the body can't withstand as much as positive G's, and popped blood vessels in my mouth, eyes, and scalp. they said that at -3 G's you break blood vessels and at -5 G's you're blacked out, they think i was right around 4.5 or so. Nothing was wrong with any of my gear when i packed it or got it back and i have plenty of jumps on these size canopies, but this one definitely rocked my world. the incident was about 1.5 months ago now, and it took about 4 weeks for my eyes to get back to normal, i guess when i landed my eyes were literally popping out of my head due to the pressure. unfortunetly the pics i have are too big to post on dz.com. 12. hey guys, kind of short notice on this one but the Colorado Canopy Club will be having a swoop meet June 20th for those interested. This is going to be extremely similar to what the FLCPA is with 2 rounds of speed, distance, accuracy. There will be judges there along with coaching by Slipstream Airsports. both pro's and am's are definitely welcome and it will be a great learning environment for all. There will be another later on this year we just don't know yet if it will be june, july, or august, but the important thing is that competitive swooping is returning to Colorado! see you guys out there, email or PM me for any questions...stu Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  13. i have tested different size risers on some of my smaller canopies (71/79) and have felt a difference. enough of a difference where i intentionally jump shorter risers on my smaller canopies to get the recovery arc the way i want it. 14. for what? one canopy for all competition events? beer line swooping? camera? freestyle? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  15. think of it this way, when you floor it and drop the clutch in a hot rod you spin the tires out and don't go anywhere. but when you do things a little slower and smoothly then you can actually get off the line and move. do it too slowly though then you stall the car and lose speed/ don't go anywhere. 16. I'm one of Scott Robert's teammates and have been jumping different versions of this bag for a while now, but have over 2000 jumps on other bags kind of like it. absolutely love the bag, taken it terminal, video, hop n pops, what ever and where it's a great bag. it does take a little time to get used to it but i love it. the bag and the risers are actually part of UPT's new "swoop package" that customers can now order. 17. Mile-Hi skydiving will be having a Canopy Club this season. Most of the information is here at this link: http://slipstreamairsports.com/?page_id=68, but in short it will be canopy based (duh). This will NOT be swooping specific but more of club where you can work on your canopy skills from traditional patterns, to swooping, to canopy flocking, to competition swooping, it's all good. For the month of April the club will meet on thursdays at 9am at the dz, just show up and jump. Also, for those interested in canopy coaching that will be available as well. See ya out there...Stu Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down

  20. anybody have any new news regarding the possible rule changes to speed and accuracy? Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  21. i wouldn't consider the xaos to be intermediate. it's crossbraced and definitely a step beyond the conventional 7 or 9 cell canopies Slip Stream Air Sports Do not go softly, do not go quietly, never back down
  22. i think the more important question is not how you do your swoop, but why you do your turn the way you do. for example, why are you holding your double fronts for 5 seconds? why not 4 seconds or 6 seconds? personally i think once you understand why you do the turn the way you do you can then understand why something is successful and not successful and then tweek what ever you need to. for what it's worth here's my turn for the 79 at sea level: - start in deep brakes - double fronts at 1350' for about 4 seconds - an accelerating 450 turn that takes about 7 seconds, smoothly transitioning from all front risers to pretty much all harness throughout the turn. - roll-out for about 3-3.5 seconds I have reason's for doing this type of turn, but this is just my turn and what works for me and definitely not for everyone.
