Any more, there has to be some element of challenge or fun in it. Changing my own oil holds zero interest, but I did just make windows for my garage and install them. Wendy P.

Ya know, sometimes I'm fine with saying "I'd rather pay someone else to do that." Wendy P.

It’ll be New Year’s in Helsinki soon; I’m not there, but I’m sure someone is… so happy new year everyone! Wendy P.

I have a friend who’s 91 who bought herself an EV earlier this year. Had to get an outlet installed, but she really wanted to try out the new technology. She’s my “how to age” idol. Always put something in front of yourself to head towards. Wendy P.

There was a good article about Ro Khanna of California in the Times last weekend. Might be someone to watch in the future. Wendy P.

Passionate Skydiver Eager for Professional Involvement

Help wanted and position wanted posts normally go into the classifieds. Yours is general enough to leave in here, because it's not much different from the "Should I cut away and go live on a DZ" posts that used to be here all the time. Get a rigger's ticket, learn how to fly your canopy to the max (i.e. by studying and talking to coaches, not by downsizing as fast as possible), learn all about the gear. First jobs at DZs is usually packing mains for other jumpers. You need to either have a rigger's ticket, or be under the supervision of a rigger (i.e. there's one there who can take a look whenever). College will help nearly any job that's not something like packing -- business manager for a DZ or a gear manufacturer, etc. Welcome to the sport. Hope you stay a long time. Wendy P. -
This is a question best discussed in person with a local canopy coach. Because said person can also help to get you ready for the Zulu when you find the perfect one, and after the season starts. Looks from your profile that you jump in a seasonal place, and you really don't want to start the season with a smaller, more aggressive, canopy. Wendy P.

It's a matter of balancing costs. Is the cost of all those lives, along with the large number of suicides facilitated by guns, worth it for the small number of people who are legitimately saved by guns? Probably is to those people, but dang. We don't do a good job of evaluating human cost as a society. We scream at the thought of unsafe construction methods, but also scream at the cost of buildings, and of having enough housing for everyone. There's no clear answer, because any clear answer values someone at someone else's expense, thereby confirming Orwell's mantra of "some animals are more equal than others." Wendy P.

What’s this “would” stuff? It’s all you ever do. Not necessarily our stuff specifically, but anything climate related. Wendy P.

I don’t think it’s black and white, because I think there’s a lot of room between thinking something is wrong, and understanding how someone could come to have made the decision to do that wrong thing. I have a Palestinian cousin Wendy P.

We’re getting home from a trip to India on the 23rd. No real need for the winter clothes that we brought with us; it’ll be close to 50 all week. And yes, an Indian wedding is way cool Wendy P.

Not any more I guess. Climate refugees will start coming north in this hemisphere I’ll bet. Wendy P.

Sometimes the views go along with attitude. Yes, people with more diaagreements get disagreed with more, and some of our members use a rather confrontational style. But if you’ll notice, some of the conservative members are far less likely to get dogpiled. My theory is that it’s because they treat everyone with equal respect, and use what’s in the online conversation to continue it, rather than trying for setups they can then respond to with a “gotcha!” Wendy P.

And Theodore Roosevelt also considered himself to be a progressive. Maybe we let people define themselves instead of assigning them to small-minded boxes Wendy P.

Kate Cooper’s comment: FAFO (had to look it up). Free speech isn’t always free, is it. Actions have consequences. Wendy P.

Examples please? Ones that hold up in our court system, that is? After all, free speech says you can say anything, but that doesn’t make it true Wendy P.
