  1. Well, you’re the only person who’s heard everything you’ve heard. Wendy P.
  2. I don’t think it’s black and white, because I think there’s a lot of room between thinking something is wrong, and understanding how someone could come to have made the decision to do that wrong thing. I have a Palestinian cousin Wendy P.
  3. Some people don’t seem to understand that stepping on others doesn’t actually make them taller, any more than sinking someone else’s boat makes one’s own float better. Wendy P.
  4. And, like everything else in life, it’s completely and perfectly binary, with absolutely no shading of any sort Wendy P.
  5. We’re getting home from a trip to India on the 23rd. No real need for the winter clothes that we brought with us; it’ll be close to 50 all week. And yes, an Indian wedding is way cool Wendy P.
  6. Because, after all, Sweden and Denmark are such hellholes, and we just can’t wait to get rid of Medicare and Social Security. You could sponsor a poorhouse, and start a new trend. Wendy P.
  7. Not any more I guess. Climate refugees will start coming north in this hemisphere I’ll bet. Wendy P.
  8. Sometimes the views go along with attitude. Yes, people with more diaagreements get disagreed with more, and some of our members use a rather confrontational style. But if you’ll notice, some of the conservative members are far less likely to get dogpiled. My theory is that it’s because they treat everyone with equal respect, and use what’s in the online conversation to continue it, rather than trying for setups they can then respond to with a “gotcha!” Wendy P.
  9. And Theodore Roosevelt also considered himself to be a progressive. Maybe we let people define themselves instead of assigning them to small-minded boxes Wendy P.
  10. Think of it as an intelligence test… Wendy P.
  11. Kate Cooper’s comment: FAFO (had to look it up). Free speech isn’t always free, is it. Actions have consequences. Wendy P.
  12. Examples please? Ones that hold up in our court system, that is? After all, free speech says you can say anything, but that doesn’t make it true Wendy P.
  13. You’ve heard of Elf of a Shelf? How about Trump on a Stump? Wendy P.
  14. It does. No idea why Wendy P.
  15. S’OK; the moderators can’t filter out anyone’s dreck. Knowing that others have to read ours is a small but significant comfort. Kind of like a puppy. Wendy P.
  16. I know a couple of people who admitted (one on the forum and one to me in a PM) to being convinced to modify their views based on arguments in here. No, it wasn’t “the Wendy show;” I had nothing to do with one, and only some with the other. But I do know that I’ve learned things here, and I like that. Wendy P.
  17. As Nina Simone said in her song “Mississippi goddamn” Wendy P.
  18. I’m also interested in what I haven’t been paying attention to. As well as what exactly Hillary Clinton was so massively guilty of. A similar digging committee (well, actually more than one) failed to find anything that resulted in anything legal more serious than Fox headlines. Which to me sounds kind of like a “beatings will continue until morale has improved” approach Wendy P.
  19. The purpose of an impeachment inquiry apparently is to cast around looking for grounds for impeachment Wendy P.
  20. I guess then that the definition I heard of gender as being “generally descriptive, but not definitive” would be pretty decent. After all, well over 95% of Chicago residents are honest and not the least bit violent. Doesn’t seem to stop people from describing it as a hellhole where you can’t trust anyone Wendy P.
  21. And, like them, it’ll probably be people with some organizational backing — I.e. a legal team who will represent them in the interests of individual freedom and self-determination. Hopefully it’s being assembled now. Unfortunately Sarah Weddington is no longer alive; she’d have been great to include as an adviser Wendy P.
  22. Anyone who needs help. If you don’t need help, you’re good to go. Wendy P.
  23. That part is more directed at people who help poor women; they have fewer resources to fight back. First rule of power bullying — demonstrate on people more likely to lose Wendy P.
  24. At 40, my son doesn’t need a whole lot of interpretation of the world any more…. Wendy P.
  25. Oh my; that’s Chuck’s dad, right? What a legend! Wendy P.
