  2. Yeah, I killfiled him long ago after I reached my limit of snark and abuse. Abysmal SNR. Given the tendency for breakthrough, I just skip any AFLAC input.
  3. Lucky for me I still have a box of masks.
  4. Im sorry, but you’re killfiling Billvon? Dang Wendy P.
  5. What's the betting that Winsor won't identify a single thing that makes any current democrat politician worse than Trump? Of course he doesn't have anything, he's just going to vote for Trump anyway because he's like Mussolini.
  6. You say that like it is a bad thing. Fewer people, less energy use, less CO2 in the atmosphere, global warming slowing down, less traffic on Interstate 4 between Orlando and Disney World.

  8. Godwin's law applies nicely here. I can only guess what was the basis of this thread, thanks to the magic of the kill file. The Doctrine of Fascism was penned by Benito Mussolini, with whom our last president has much more in common than with the Corporal from Austria. The appeal of totalitarian government in Europe between the wars was largely a function of the excesses of Marxists of various persuasions. The Catholic Church underwrote the regimes in both Rome and Berlin in support of the perceived lesser two evils. Since the Church is still extent, they made the historically accurate choice. In the US of A, the batshit craziness of the Progressives makes finding any survivable alternative worthy of consideration, if not if outright support. Trump's selling point is that, thought he may be a toxic lunatic, he's not quite as bad as the idiots on the left (a tough call to make). The brain dead protesters on campus rather support that stance. Thus the upcoming election is akin to chemotherapy - a toxin that kills you 50% and the cancer 90%, in the hope that what's left of you can defeat what's left of the cancer. Going by historical precedent, after running the numbers it appears we're pushing Stage 4, so it might not make much difference when all is said and done. BSBD, Winsor
  9. Although in this case, ironically, it is the people receiving the communication who are being too emotional to pay attention to the facts.

  11. Interesting article about what is happening inside of Tesla. Elon Musk is throwing his weight around Tesla, comes in like a wrecking ball Sources say that Tesla will have issues continuing to grow the network without the organization of Rebecca Tinucci, Tesla’s former head of charging. ... Sources familiar with the matter believe that some of the layoffs have nothing to do with hiring inefficiencies or restructuring, but rather with Musk throwing his weight around Tesla. Two sources told Electrek that Tinucci was fighting back pressure from Musk to fire a bigger percentage of her team, and the CEO decided to let go of the entire team as an example.
  12. yup, and feeds the lines that the GOP will use when they support trump by simply saying "Well, they are all crooks". Scale matters, but in a lot of cases, they are not wrong. I guess it is too much to just do your fucking job and enjoy the salary and benefits.... want to make more money? Write a fucking book like they all do to get rich quick.
  13. nothing helps an anti-immigration movement more than immigrants bringing their country's troubles, their terrorism, their crimes to the country to which they moved. Air India bombings in the 80's (I think) was a similar reaction.... a lot of Canadians were "WTF you bringing your bullshit terrorist cells into our country so you can act against YOUR country?" not knowing all the details yet on this one, but that that's my initial reaction. fuck you people. Will be interesting how the diplomacy works on this one.

  15. Like a dog whistle?
  16. I didn't say that. Analogies or comparisons that relate to Hitler are known as Nazi analogies or Nazi comparisons. It's inflammatory and becomes a perpetual camel spitting contest - even if you don't say Nazi. Association is a verbal communication technique that links a message to something that a person already does or does not value, does or does not trust, likes or dislikes, such as a concept, person, brand, or benefit. It's most common in persuasive communications and plays on emotions, rather than facts.
  17. Well, that's the future potential danger. The real problem isn't the authoritarian - it's the populace that supports dicatorships as long as said dictatorships do what they want. And that's the problem that is also hardest to solve.
  18. Just using the term, even if descriptive of how power was gained rather than as descriptive of the actual policies, heightens the emotion. People conflate them; it’s kind of like saying “oh, you have a terrible combover, just like Trump.” People (well, liberals at least) will take that as being far more pejorative than the words say. Even if the techniques are, in fact, similar, or the combover is, in fact, awful Wendy P.
  19. Then don't use that term. There are parallels between their rises to power. There are also similiarities against other authoritarians rising to power. Studying them can avoid future threats to our country. Those who do not study history are destined to repeat it - and "it can't happen here" has never been true no matter how heartfelt the sentiment.
  20. The combination of nationalism, isolationism, the taint of racism, misuse of religion, showmanship and above all populism all are factors that Trump has combined into his own unprecedented formula for just enough success to gain power through exploiting the flaws in the American federal system. It is hard to compare him to any of the 20th century figures being alluded to here. I feel that he is uniquely American and an entrepreneur and of course narcissist of the first order. Two things stand out to me marking him as very different. His age for one. He is far too old to ever become a dictator like those being spoken of. But more importantly, he does not really have an overarching agenda he wants to accomplish. Other than of course to accumulate money and power. The real danger is not Trump. It is the forces that he may unleash that will follow him into the future. Trump is not disciplined enough or smart enough to really lead. He merely reinforces the worst in his supporters that is already present.
  21. What exactly are you agreeing with though? Nothing about this thread involved calling anyone a Nazi.
  22. Today three arrests were made. All three Indian citizens and all in Canada. https://www.cnn.com/2024/05/03/americas/canada-sikh-nijjar-assassination-suspects-intl-latam/index.html https://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/nijjar-killing-arrests-made-1.7192807 The speculation seems to be that elements of the Indian government used hired gangsters already in Canada to carry out the assassination.

  24. I have to agree with TK on this point. Taking a broad stroke labeling approach only serves to create emotion and loses an opportunity to educate. "Nazi" just turns into a camel spitting contest.
  25. yeah that at least is a good way to explain part of my point... overused and dilutes the atrocities that took place. Trump is still a piece of shit capable of doing many evil things if he is given the opportunity. There is a significant portion of the population that has no problem with a dictatorship, because the country would at least 'look like them and their daily life', and they have delusions about 'some better time' that they have be robbed of, despite the fact that most things are just fine. Hate and fear still drives much of the movement towards authoritarianism. I do not undertsnad the human psyche that allows that to take over ones feelings about any given issue, but it certainly is a thing. You cannot do it if you simply point at any one individual person - you have to identify an entire group of people as your enemy and then everyone within that group becomes the enemy.
