Hey, who made YOU the director of ethics?

Funny thing is he has a right to voice his opinion...And you have yours. However I find his to be well thought out and logical, and yours to be noise and insults.

Wow, now slander!!!

And MORE personal attacks....WOW

Dave do yourself and the rest of us a favor, only post on what you can prove are true facts, and not on emotional, biased, partial truths and hear-say information.

Uh, some on the Anti new DZ side have posted MUCH more tripe that plays on emotion than anyone else here. And your "Retort" was nothing but insults.

With two whole posts and just signed up the forum, plus Both of your single posts on this Topic,Fake name entered and no PM's allowed....Gee I wonder who's side you are on?

Are you afraid of standing behind your attacks?

You sir, are a troll.

I would love to see facts...All you have brought is an emotional Falicy. Bring facts and I would love to read them...Scream "Think of the dead and dying while we play" and I'll still just sit around and wait for you to bring "facts".

I will continue to watch this thread and laugh at the direction these posts have taken, now that its a bunch of guys from out of state "trolling" the forums looking to spew opinions

As opposed to guys *in* the state trolling? (Hint, thats you)

I find it very funny that you will not stand behind what you post with a name. You created this name just to bring what you call "facts" into the forum.

Your intentions are not the truth, but to slander anyone that disagrees with you. I have noticed you went form posting *possible* problems to just trying t appeal to emotion. That right there shows you have nothing to stand on.

I tell ya what...Ask a real question about DZ operations around a lifeflight airport without a biased anser already in your head and see what happens....Oh wait that already happend,a nd you ran away and tried to play to emotions.

But what would any of us know? I have only been skydiving 13 years, have a pilots license with heli time.... I guess I would know nothing about airport operations just because I don't live in KC:S

well, given the apparent nature of things there, this part isn't too surprising. If you're employed by one of the threatened DZs, you want to kill the new one, but still be able to work there if it is the one left standing! And you can't show any signs of opennes to the new one, or the others might PNG your ass out the door, leaving you no home if the turbine fails.

Martin,

Glad you started the thread, it gives me humor throughout the day. Keep posting!

BTW: FaQ Ole Yeller, I cried during ET!

Has anyone seen the newscast of all the upset women who picket a new strip club, or people who want to remove books off the shelf at a school or bookstore? You know what I mean, we've all seen those protest type activities. What was the first thing that came to mind when you heard of, or watched those newscast? #1. If it was a strip club "Were's it at and how do I get there". #2. If its a dirty book or magazine "Where can I get it". Idiots who create controversy unwittingly give the target of their controversy "FREE ADVERTISING"

The same thing goes for this new DZ. With all the Controversy, its like giving the new owners "FREE" advertising. If I were them I'd call everyone who came to oppose me and "Thank" them for all the free advertising. I dont know maybe even a Free ride in my new Caravan, just to say Thank You!:P

Before I go, a few serious predictions. Im gonna have BoDog start taking wagers on these odds!

1. This DZ is getting Free Advertising
2. This DZ is opening
3. It will not affect the EMS Helicopter. They might move, but who cares it wont be as economically attractive as a new DZ that brings new people to town. And believe it or not EMS Helicopters have lots of competition themselves.
4. It will put a hurtin on the other local DZs
5. The City Of Harrisonville will probably vote to grant the lease.
6. Neighbors close to the airport won't call the police for trespassing, at least not 99.9% of them! They will sit in their backyards and enjoy the activities.
7. I'll have to buy new gear

Anyone have anything else to add.

I am excited to see the outcome of this dz. I was very saddened when I moved to KC to see the skydiving politics as they are. Fun jumpers travel for hours because of the politics of the area. Frankly every single dz in this city lacks and I am glad to see a new one come in and take up the slack. Hopefully this one will stand above the petty crap that so many talk about in hushed voices.

Right on Spdoat - you got it figured out!

This thread is just plain silly. Shows all of us that several of you have nothing better to do than complain about something you have little control over.

When it comes right down to it, it doesn't matter what the FACTS are, who likes who's oppinon and who think who's ethical or not. All that matters is a new DZ is scheduled to open. I'll be there and I'll see if their service is worth my hard earned money. You all can bitch at each other all you want about the situation. The reality is that myself and many other jumpers don't like the other KC DZ's silly rules & politics and we won't give them our money. I'll go to this new DZ, and see what their vibe is and if I don't like their vibe or their rules, I won't go back. Chances are others won't either. If the new place is better than the other KC DZ's - then guess what? Competition rules and come what may to the other DZ's. How hard does it have to be to understand this? We vote with our wallets.

BASE864,

I think you're going to find this new DZ to your liking. How many people do you know that have jumped over 5,000 times in six years? Paul LOVES to jump! And he loves sharing that passion with others. He and Joanna are planning on having some kind of "event" every weekend. They want upjumpers to have fun at their DZ and feel at home. He said he's going back to the old motto of skydiving that you just don't hear much anymore, "What's the #1 rule of skydiving? Have Fun!"

On a different subject, at the city council meeting last Monday night the city administrator of Harrisonville stated that PRIOR TO any discussion of a new DZ at their airport, LifeFlight had told them that they were considering moving their operation closer to where the majority of their calls come from. She did not elaborate on where that might be.

I have been reading this stuff about the KC area for a week now and I still haven't figured out what is so bad about the existing KC DZs? What kind of silly rules are you talking about? It seems like most DZO people make rules for safety reasons And what kind of politics are we talking here? Stuff like the usual bad mouthing other jumpers or what? Basicly, KC has a cult like mentality. It all depends one where you "trained". Kind of like nationalities but much more serious. I haven't jumped in the KC area since 1997 but I predicted this thread right from the start. Fiefdom, cult, whatever... people can get pretty damn worked up by what another dz is doing in the KC area.

Personally, I worked at Horizon Skydiving Harrisonville, MO (where I met Chris Hall) as a new jump pilot in 1995. When the DZ closed after their first fatality in 7 years of operating there the jumpers were scattered to the wind. Some went to MRVS. Many others of us went to Greater Kansas City Skydiving Club in Independence, MO. The bickering that went back and forth between GKCSC and MRVS was amazing. There were letters written to the FAA saying we didn't have seatbelts or restraints in ANY of our 5 Cessnas. Yah, drove up to the DZ one early weekday morning to find guys with ties walking through our open hangars looking in our planes. It only made the "whistle blowers" look like idiots. Then there was the whole thing with losing USPA Group Membership status. (Oh GARY PEEK! Remember those days!?)

Yah, lots of fun in the KC area.

...what is so bad about the existing KC DZs?... I guess Im glad I don't live in Kansas

Don't be knocking Kansas. Blame Missouri. ;) The following is my personal experience of these drop zones.

I moved to KC from Iowa after I graduated college, back in 1995. I'm not an instructor and I don't make any income from skydiving. I classify myself as a funjumper. I show up, pay my ticket, make my jump, and go home.

My first DZ stop was GKCSC in Independence, MO. I chose to jump there primarily of its location. The airport and facilities looked like they came from the movie set "Fandango". The facility was less than desirable, but the fleet of small cessnas made up for that by making my jumps really convenient. I could go out on a Saturday, knock out 4-5 jumps, and be home by the early afternoon for other stuff. I met some good people and made some great friends. Regarding rivalry with other drop zones (MRVS), I perceived from the funjumpers that most were indifferent about MRVS. The funjumpers were jumping at GKCSC primarily due to its location. There were some that disliked MRVS, and they were always very vocal about it. To be honest, I never really paid much attention to what they were bit'chn about; seemed like most of it was due to instructor vs. DZO relationships gone bad. I jumped at Independence for a couple of years; until the plane crash (R.I.P.) and the closure of the DZ.

Next stop, Skydive Kansas in Osage, KS. Again, I chose this place due to its location. It was closer to my house than MRVS. This is a great DZ. Great owners, and good facilities. They are located southwest of the KC metro, more closer to the KU and Topeka crowd. This place is smooth and easy; like drinking a glass of warm milk. Where seldom is heard, a discouraging word. :)
Next stop, MRVS in Lexington, MO. On my first visit, I was really impressed with the place. They have excellent facilities (showers, packing hangar, classroom building, covered whuffo bleachers, covered picnic tables, large open spaces, private air strip), and to add to the cessna collection, a King Air. Then I start to see familiar faces; faces that I usually see as a drunken blur at the Couch Freaks Boogie.B| With friendly faces, and a turbine plane, I figure things are going to be great for now on. Well, the King Air was short lived. It was at the DZ for about 6 months, and I remember it being parked most of that time. I never got the same answer when I asked staff members why it was parked so much. Some said pilot issues, some said maintenance issues, some said lack of jumpers. I continued to make funjumps at MRVS, even with the King Air gone. There are a lot of good people and great friends there.

Regarding Skydive Kansas City, in Butler, MO. I have never been to that dropzone, so I have no first-hand knowledge of what its like.

I haven't jumped at a KC dropzone in years. I picked up BASE jumping to get my fix and I still make the occasional boogie. Getting out to a dropzone with a family to take care of is hard. There is just not enough time during the weekend to enjoy the best of both worlds.[:/]

The cessna drop zones around here do not meet my needs. I have a family with 2 young boys that want their daddy to spend his time with them. I can't afford to be sitting around a drop zone all day just to make a couple of jumps. I need to get out to the dz quickly, bang out some jumps in half a day, and get home to my boys. I'm hoping that the new turbine DZ will be able to help me get those jumps in.:)
The intent of my post: To share one funjumper's perspective of each local DZ, and share my reason why I would like to see this new turbine DZ take off.B|

Hummm? Who died and made you director of Ethics?

Actually, no death was required. I was promoted to director of ethics for Dave Corp. years ago when I realized what ethics are, and that they seemed important to me.

Real quick, you do realize that every post on this board is simply the opinion of the poster, and doesn't represent any form of law or contractural obligation to anyone for anything. Each reader is free to ignore or respond to posts as they see fit.

Quote

As said it is a free market, It would appear that these DZO's than have the same right to voice their opinion as this other person has a right to open a new DZ, Were not deing Biased are we Dave?

First off, I'mnot sure what I'm biased for or against. You know I'm not from Kansas right?

Anyway, this statement seems contradictory to me. Yes it is a free market, and all are free to voice their opinions. However, in this instance it seems those statements may not be based in truth, and are being made in an attempt to sabatoge the efforts of the new DZO.

This is supported by the article posted where one of the Alderman had suspicions that the competing DZOs have made statements whose truthfulness was called into question by the fact that the competing DZOs have a financial interest in the matter. Her suspicions were so strong in fact that she sheved the matter for a later date in order to seek counsel from an uninterested third party.

Now, I'm all for the free market concept, but to stand up and twist the truth around in a public forum for your own benefit is exactly the behavoir my post was protesting. Allthough it does fall under the freedon of speech, it really is the worst bastardization of the concept.

Quote

What the fuck ever happened to good old competition? Presenting a better product or better value, and succeding based on the merits of your business?

Possible the birth, and entry into our society of persons like you Dave

This just doesn't make any sense. I'm the one calling for fair competition, based on the quality or value of your product or service. How then, could my emergence be the downfall of the concept?

Quote

I run a business that has no federal ties, and you don't need a city counsel meeting to start. I have competition, and the only defence I have to them is TO DO A BETTER JOB THAN THEM. What ever happend to that?

Apprently you are not very busy at your claimed business? From the posts you seem to spend much of your time surfing the web! "Question" you find any new porn? or are you still looking at the same old stuff?

Again, I'm not sure what your point is. I do own a business, thats one of the few points thats not an opinion. Debating that is like me debating your name is Hugh.

Everyone knows there's no new porn on the web.

Quote

another question Dave! What do you really know about this situation? Are you basing this mindless dribble on the supposed facts offered by skydivers? These are the same people who tell you "the checks in the mail" and " I won't cum in your mouth!"

I know what I've read, which is what I base my opinions on, which is what the other posters base their opinions on. These discussions have value only within this context, this may be why you don't see threads from DZ.com printed out and presented as evidence in a court of law. It's just chit-chat among jumpers.

The truth is, the post you are replying to came out of reading the newspaper article posted that detailed the events of the city council meeting.

Seeing as the article posed no bias, and was merely an account of the events, I took it as fact, and drew my feelings and opinoins form there.

I too have heard "The check is in the mail", and I know thats never true!

I don't have any direct experience, but if a guy tells you he won't cum in your mouth, and then does, he doesn't respect you, and you should kick him to the curb!

Quote

This legal undermining is backhanded and shady. This is a snapshot of one of the problems in this country. Competition keeps business strong and lean. it makes you work for every inch you gain over your competitors. What these guys are doing is the equivialant of letting the air out of a guys tires before a race.

How do you know what amount of work these guy put into, or have put into, their DZ"s? A lot of speculation on your part. Let's say I decide to start a business like yours, surfing the net, and I have a much faster connection and bigger ballson computer than you, and I offer the surf at a lower price, would that get your panties twisted up Dave?

I'm not sure who 'these guy' are. You've sort of floated that pronoun out there on it's own, and it's applicable to either side of the story. Either way, I'm sure all DZOs involved have put time, money, and effort into their respective DZs (or perspective DZ, as the case may be).

Thats the whole point here. Just putting out the effort does not gurantee you success. You have to put out out the right effort at the right time. This is what ensures the quality of the participants in the free market. Those who are below par simply fail, and end up working for someone else (or on walfare or crack).

In this issue, the actions of the existing DZOs suggest that they fear for the health of their own business with the opening of a new one. This is where I think they should look inward, and find a way to offer a better service in order to overcome the competition. Don't go to a city council meeting and lie to get the DZ shut down even before they open. Thats the pussy move, and thats what I have a problem with.

Boxers. I wear boxers. They don't buch up too much, but I hear the boxer-brief is the real anti-bunch sloution.

Quote

Dave, before you make a statement like this, based on partial information provided to you by biased skydivers, you might find that if you look in the mirror the face you see looks to the rest of us, the same as an attorney or Enron Exec. Be very carful what you say! It proves what company you keep! By the way how long have you ran Enron of Ohio?

I'm not sure how that would be true. How does the 'rest of us' see me as an attorney or an Enron exec? What have I done to encourage or even suggest that conclusion? Furthermore what does that have to do with the company I keep?

For the record, I'm not sure how you've come to the conclusion that I'm running Enron of Ohio. What investors have I duped? What pensions have I dried up with rediculous bonuses and (no pun intended) even more rediculous golden parachutes?

Quote

Welcome to America.

And after reading some of the posts left by simpletons like you, I wonder why more people don't move to Canada.

'Welcome to America' appeared at the bottom of another post I made on this thread in reference to a guy who seemed to disourage the free market. Incuding it in this post was more a disappointing message to myself about the state of affairs in the US. This type of behavoir is here to stay, and to me, thats a shame.

Heres' where this whole post gets interesting.
Quote

Dave do yourself and the rest of us a favor, only post on what you can prove are true facts, and not on emotional, biased, partial truths and hear-say information. It will make you appear to be much more intelligent.

This is quite a statement for a guy who just riddled his post with assumptions about me, my employment and motivations.

I guess I can see the ,'An eye for an eye' mentality, but the irony of using a piece of advice that your post has failed to follow as your closer is too much to ignore.

I'll feel free to appear as intelligent or ignorant, or just plain stupid as I see fit. If you really think that being the smartest guy in the room is always the best bet, and that demonstrating it is part of that, good luck. You'll need it.

From the Kansas City Star:

Skydiving school could oust LifeFlight
By DONALD BRADLEY
The Kansas City Star

LifeFlight Eagle may fly the coop in Harrisonville if a skydiving school moves to town.

“If there’s a safety detriment — it’s a no-brainer,” Chuck Walker, LifeFlight’s operations director said this week.

The concern is that the Kansas City Skydiving Center’s “drop zone” could be too close to air traffic at Harrisonville’s Lawrence Smith Memorial Airport. Walker said LifeFlight, an air-ambulance service that uses helicopters to transport patients, cannot be forced to wait for skydivers to clear the sky before a helicopter lands or takes off.

Harrisonville residents and city officials don’t want to lose LifeFlight because they say the base is a great safety service to the community. But because of a late change in plans, the issue could be out of the city’s hands.

When the owners of the skydiving school, Paul and Joanna Eriksmoen, first applied for a lease at the airport, they wanted the drop zone to be on airport property. LifeFlight objected, saying its emergency service and the school were incompatible. It suggested that the skydivers look for a new base.

In letters, e-mails and comments to city officials, residents decried the possible loss of LifeFlight, one saying that numerous Harrisonville lives have been saved because the helicopter ambulances were based at the airport.

Others complained about potential noise, parties and landings in unexpected places. One woman even wrote that there is a lot of livestock in the area and that a jumper might land near a bull.

Since then, the Eriksmoens have acquired a tract of land adjacent to the airport that would be used for the school’s drop zone.

According to Harrisonville City Administrator Diana Wright, that means the city would have no basis to deny the school’s airplanes because the airport is a public facility, and the jumpers would not be landing on airport property.

A public-affairs spokesperson for the Federal Aviation Administration agreed. If the drop zone were on airport property, the city could refuse the lease application, Elizabeth Cory said from FAA offices in Chicago. But because it’s not, the city cannot deny the school’s airplanes, Cory said.

Still, the Harrisonville Board of Aldermen is set to discuss the issue Feb. 21.

Walker said the new proposed drop zone is a thousand feet from the airport’s helipad. The distance is farther than the earlier plan’s 200 feet, but still not the 3,000 feet recommended by industry experts.

“We don’t know yet what we’re going to do,” Walker said.

The Eriksmoens have told city officials that the school’s pilots would always be in radio contact with the airport and would always yield to LifeFlight copters.

LifeFlight Eagle, based at Harrisonville since 2000, has conducted about 1,600 takeoffs and landings per year, Walker said.

It is the busiest of four base sites. The others are at Blue Springs, Children’s Mercy Hospital and Trenton, Mo.

This is the sort of thing that makes me believe the stories of competing DZOs circulating fliers in an attempt to sabotage the new DZ.

How would these residents get these sort of ideas? It seems a little more informed that I would guess the averge citizen would be in regards to a DZ.

Another possibility is that the area residents didn't like the previous dz being located there. It has been said that after 7 years of operation and only 1 fatality the city ran them off.

The area doesn't sound very jumper friendly no mater where they are getting their information.

Thats a good read, thanks for the post..

I wonder how much money life flight would have to spend to relocate?

It would seem to me that life flight is claiming 1,600 calls per year.
Thats 4.384 calls per day.. so lets say they may get 5 calls per day. of those 5 calls per day I wonder how many would be during a normal skydive operation part of the day?

If there is an airport access problem I think the new DZO has the USPA blessing as Mr Bangs himself has help promote this dz with his blessing. or so I have heard but can't confirm as of yet.

Any reason Mr Bangs would support this perticular DZ?

That’s 1600 takeoffs/landings, or “operations”. A takeoff is one operation, a landing is another, flying a load of skydivers, or a Life Flight Sortie would each be two operations.
Experience is what you get when you thought you were going to get something else.

Well the important part of the whole life flight event is the depart time.. Landing back at base as fast as you can is not as inportant as getting to the scene.
The EMS service I work for runs 1,500 calls per year and for the last three 24 hr shift I worked we did nothing at all.. not one call.
However the last shift I just came off, the fourth shift of this month we ran 9 calls, Almost all of the calls came before 10am and the rest after 9pm.
In my opinion 1,600 calls per year is not that busy!

As I understand it Glen Bangs knows Paul Eriksmoen personally from Cross Keys. The USPA generally would not give a non nonexistent/ non Group Member DZ the time of day. I have heard that this will be a topic of discussion at the upcoming BOD meeting.

This is the sort of thing that makes me believe the stories of competing DZOs circulating fliers in an attempt to sabotage the new DZ.

How would these residents get these sort of ideas? It seems a little more informed that I would guess the averge citizen would be in regards to a DZ.

Dave, have you read my posts at all? This airport was a DZ for YEARS. It closed in 1995 after the first fatality in seven years of operation. The residents are familiar with DZ ops.

Yeah, I read it, but considering the length of this thread, and my limited attention span, my best guess is it was last October.

Either way, the old DZ closed 11 years ago. Were there problems with off landings, livestock and parties?

I guess it seemed coincidental that fliers were circulated with warnings in those areas, and then matching complaints came in from the population.

It is possible that some folks remembered the old DZ, and the problems (if there were any), and started a grass roots campaign against a new DZ.

It's also possible that the current DZOs are responsible, as has been inferred earlier in the thread (yeah, somehow I remember that, though).
