I agree Bill... And these people say its an EXISTENTIAL threat. So you believe that Humans will stop existing because of these things?

53 humans stopped existing today because of these things in just one event.  Worldwide about 100,000 humans stop existing due to higher temperatures alone every year.

So to them, yes it is.  To a rich guy living in Denver?  Probably not.

Crazy. So once we passed the Slim King golden age of communication, a time when just yelling at your neighbor over the fence constituted social media, and found a way to let folks know that tornadoes and hurricanes and floods and locust explosions and zombie attacks were coming deaths went down. Damn, who could have guessed?

Also note that the graph is from Bjorn Lomborg, who claims he is an "environmentalist" despite only having an MA in political science. He's well known for his bullshit and is thoroughly discredited in the scientific community.

Slim and brent regurgitate his arguments including the inconsistencies to the letter, not a single original argument from them really.

I know!  And no one could have foreseen that adopting building codes that prevented damage in high winds or earthquakes would end up, you know, preventing damage in high winds or earthquakes!  It's just so shocking; unthinkable even...

And in places where those building codes are actually followed and enforced, the buildings stay standing in strong storms & earthquakes.

Places where a nice fat bribe can save a TON of money because you don't have to follow them...

Not so much.

This is a real shocker. You mean they aren't luminaries?

I watched the video and in the early part, they quoted President Biden as saying "climate change is a bigger threat than nuclear war"  The big thing in the 1970's was nuclear winter.  I guess if we had a nuclear war, that would take care of global warming and we would certainly have climate change and fewer people.

Climate change as we understand it is not an existential threat to the human race. It is an existential threat to millions of humans both currently existing humans and potential humans.

As well as a threat to tens of thousands of other species. Perhaps the species that masters climate change won't be human.

It’s an existential threat to the way of life that huge numbers of people and other critters are used to. So just about everyone will have to change. And, like with everything else, poor people have to change more, and sooner, than rich people. And as long as those rich people die (preferably of old age) before making any changes, they’ve “won.”

"Threat", like "risk",  includes both the probability of something happening and the consequences, if that something does actually happen.  An event that is extremely unlikely, but catastrophic if it does happen, is a threat but maybe not a big one.  For example eventually the sun will become a red giant, and the Earth will be incinerated, but the chance of that happening in the next 100 million years is indistinguishable from zero.  An event that is likely to occur, or is actually occurring right now (as in the case of climate change), can be more of a threat even if the consequences are less dire than incinerating the planet.  The question is, I suppose, how likely do you think it is that a nuclear war will happen?

Apparently, El Nino conditions reduce hurricane activity. From the NOAA:

Quote

El Nino usually results in atmospheric conditions that help to lessen tropical activity during the Atlantic hurricane season.

However, even that might not hold for this season, as NOAA forecasters have just increased their hurricane season prediction this year.

As usual, brent's posts haven't aged well. They never do, do they?

Something similar happened here in Florida where NONE of the Government Warning methods went off. People wondered what happened to the Millions they were given to build and maintain our danger warning system. Maybe that's part of this. As of yet I can find no evidence that such systems worked.

Government said: Maui County Police Chief John Pelletier, “Nobody saw this coming. Period.”

Government also said: “as dry lands, coupled with “strong and gusty easterly winds and low humidities,” create “critical fire weather conditions.”

“Any fires that develop will likely spread rapidly,”

As with most wildfires, it has nothing to do with global warming, it has everything to do with poor land management and incompetent government.

The CO2 argument needs to be out in the open with facts and figure compared to speculation by scientists with an agenda.

Yeah those stupid dumb scientists with their agendas ain't got nothin on Brent and Slim with their tireless research of the postings of climate deniers on Rumble and YouTube.

As long as someone else pays, and as long as you can feel smugly superior and always-right about it, you guys don't give a flying fuck what happens.

We just spent around a trillion dollars to combat climate change, how did that work out for the folks in Hawaii?

So your point is why should we try to mitigate damage when there is still damage occurring?  Is that it?  You are the one constantly bragging that emissions are going up, now you're asking how a law designed to curb emissions over the coming decades didn't have an instantaneous affect?  You've got to either be trolling, or you should be requesting a refund on your education.

I've always wondered what these cretins think that agenda might be.

“As for stimulus jobs—whether "saved" or "created"—we thought readers might be interested to know whose employment they are sustaining. More than $2.4 million is stimulating the career of none other than Penn State climate scientist Michael Mann.“

“James Hansen is an Environmentalist with a net worth of $17 Million”

I think the “agenda” is self evident. As Deep Throat said “follow the money”.
