JoeWeber 2,299 #1 Posted December 19, 2019 Now just wait. Refuse to tender the articles to the Senate until fair rules for the trial are accepted. Let the thing hang over his head and dominate the news cycle with constant questioning of why McConnell and the Senate Republicans don't want a fair trial. Again, keep it simple for the public even though some rules will be complicated. Stay on message: Why won't the President defend himself. That's not fair. Why won't the President allow witnesses? That's not fair. Innocent people aren't afraid of the truth. What are Senator McConnell and the President hiding? Every American should write their Senator and demand a fair trial for the President. Rinse, wash, repeat. Trump's thin skin, demonstrated inability to take pressure and his belief that he can lie his way out of anything will do the job. Let him tell McConnell to get it over with. He'll still be acquitted, but he'll be further wounded and possibly McConnell and some other R Senators, too. You take what you can get.
airdvr 197 #2 December 19, 2019 I think you're missing the mood of the country a bit. This whole process just might create a groundswell of support for Trump. Be careful what you wish for...

No, it's the result of genuine impeachable actions by the president. However, when you have an upper chamber who have directly stated that they will spit on their constitutional duty to act as a check and balance to another branch of government then what do you do with that? The Republicans are moaning about due process? Might as well drag it out until they agree to actually apply some. That takes it into election season? Well, since they've got it why should they be stupid enough not to use it?

Well, since they've got it why should they be stupid enough not to use it? Given that they spit on their Constitutional duty when Obama was President, it's not surprising that they do so now. They've been given multiple opportunities to participate in 'due process'. They chose to ignore the opportunities to present any evidence. They are trying to prevent any testimony by anyone in the Trump administration by stopping witness testimony during the 'trial' in the Senate. The level of corruption being shown by them is disgusting.

Please, would just one right winger on this site explain why they think that's O.K. And don't forget that the whistleblower followed the exact letter of the law when exposing the wrong. airdvr 197 #22 December 20, 2019 I'm hearing rumblings of technically not being impeached until the results are turned over to the Senate...

I'm saying that you know that Joe wasn't saying that. You also know that I was saying that, and not what you just suggested. So again, why bother making it appear that you're incapable of following a conversation? What do you hope to gain from looking dumb? Second, in regard to the above that went all through the courts and they never ruled that he did, so who am I to argue. Quote or that he did not lie to the American people? What does that have to do with anything? If lying to the people was grounds for impeachment Trump would be facing about 10,000 articles right now, not two. Might as well have booted him out on the first day.

airdvr 197 #25 December 20, 2019 Ok...that was fun. https://www.bloomberg.com/opinion/articles/2019-12-19/trump-impeachment-delay-could-be-serious-problem-for-democrats Impeachment as contemplated by the Constitution does not consist merely of the vote by the House, but of the process of sending the articles to the Senate for trial. Both parts are necessary to make an impeachment under the Constitution: The House must actually send the articles and send managers to the Senate to prosecute the impeachment. And the Senate must actually hold a trial.
