From CONSERVATIVE blogger Jennifer Rubin:

With his memo, House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-Calif.) botched for a second time (remember the unmasking scandal) an attempt to discredit the intelligence community to protect President Trump in the Russia investigation. For a second time he resorted to a specious and factually defective non-scandal, hoping to play to the Trump cultists and their state TV channel, Fox News. Nunes is exceedingly terrible at this game. For example:

He managed to prove the dossier was not the basis of the Russia investigation; George Papadopoulos was.
He underscored that one couldn’t possibly “spy” on the Trump campaign by getting a FISA warrant, which was kept secret during the campaign, on Carter Page — who already had left the campaign at the time the warrant was sought.
He did not attempt to tie the FISA warrant to special counsel Robert S. Mueller III or to explain how the FISA court approved the warrant and its three extensions (which required a showing of progress in the investigation).
He misstated former director James B. Comey’s remarks about the dossier.
According to The Post’s reporting, his suggestion that the political nature of the dossier was withheld from the court — the central allegation in the memo — was false. (“The court that approved surveillance of a former campaign adviser to President Trump was aware that some of the information underpinning the warrant request was paid for by a political entity, although the application did not specifically name the Democratic National Committee or the Hillary Clinton presidential campaign, according to two U.S. officials familiar with the matter. … [I]ts central allegation — that the government failed to disclose a source’s political bias — is baseless, the officials said.”)
He never tried to prove the dossier was false or that Christopher Steele knew Fusion GPS was paid by the DNC (after it was originally engaged by the conservative Washington Free Beacon).
He underscored that at four different points, the FISA court thought there was probable cause to conduct surveillance of Page, thereby establishing that a suspected Russian agent had in fact worked on the campaign.
Nunes’s memo was so flimsy that even White House Chief of Staff John F. Kelly told Trump it was a bust. The Post reports that Kelly told Trump that “the document was not as compelling as some of its advocates had promised Trump.” Oops.

From the memo:

“The Papadopoulos information triggered the opening of an FBI counterintelligence investigation in late July 2016" the memo noted in its final paragraph.

The FBI did not seek authorization to conduct surveillance on Page until three months later, on Oct. 21, 2016.

George Papadopolous is a cooperating witness.

The memo is the nothingburger.

Stated in the memo is confirmed. A fisa warrant would not have a bit issued if not for the Steele dossier. The fisa judge was lied to or he would have never issued it. I truly believe there's much much more to come on this.

But all your spin on this so sure as hell fun to watch

Then why would Trey Gowdy, who actually is one of two people who read the FISA warrant not support your assertion?

Nunes never read the underlying material. I think because the unmasking debacle cost him his clearance.

McCabe said if not for the dossier no FISA warrant would have been granted.

The republicans on the committee are asking for the transcript of McCabes testimony be released to counter the Dems lies.

Given he's one of the very few to see ALL the information, I have to agree.
It's amazing to see what is actually written in the memo being ignored and facts twisted from those words.
I don't think Nunes even realized what he admitted in the document.

Lastly, the author can't get some basic legal issues correct, so not sure why we should have any faith in any of the more difficult concepts this memo is supposed to broach.

It seems that only hard core believers have any faith in this nothinburger memo.

I find it ironic and sadly funny that he thinks it's okay to collude with the Russians to get information.

Hey Bill, and what do you think of Adam Schift trying to set up a meeting in a foreign Embassy to get Russian dirt on Trump? I thought that's the shitt that's caused all the problems with the Russia gate investigation you posted!

From the story YOU linked to:

A spokesman for Schiff told The Atlantic that the committee reported the call to "appropriate law enforcement and security personnel" and told them "of our belief that it was probably bogus."

And now we know Blumenthal, a Hillary supporter, supplied info to Steele for the pee pee memo. You can make this shit up!

Whatever silly nonsense the right wing distraction machine has come up with this week will not make any difference to the Mueller team grinding away at the rats running from the sinking ship that is the Trump administration.

What did he do wron? He spoke for a few minutes with people who phoned him, gave nothing away, and then reported the call to the FBI. Do you think it's ironic and sadly funny that Republicans think it's ok to discuss US policy with them?

"The Atlantic reported that when Kuznetsov and Stolyarov called McConnell, he told them that new sanctions against Russia were unlikely."

His staff emails show that not to be true. He's just trying to cover his ass now

Cover his ass?

If that is what you think then you must have a major problem with Trump Jr and cohorts meeting with Russians in Trump tower and then have Trump Sr. who supposedly knew nothing about the meeting, draft the response lying about it...

But if that isn't a big deal in your world, then why is a prank call now worthy of CYA?

Rush, is the Papadopolous leak fake that Nunes said triggered the investigatioon? Are the emails sent by Trump Jr. fake in which he arranges a meeting with various Russians?

It's quite surprising how much this investigation has expanded. It seems the deeper they dig, the more they find.

Currently, preexisting business deals / money laundering, Russian information exchanges / spying / treason / cyber hacking, Russian campaign contacts, and Obstruction of Justice.

I ran out of WOW!'s in regards to Trump some time ago, but DAMN!

Yep. RushMC, Trump et al keep saying it will be done by Thanksgiving, Christmas, the New Year etc. But at this point it looks like it's going to continue at least until the fall, mainly due to the increasingly rancorous discussions over Trump's testimony. His lawyers are going to draw it out as long as possible because they absolutely do NOT want him to testify - but at this point Mueller has all the evidence he needs to get a subpoena to compel him to do so.

(Of course he could end it almost overnight by cooperating with investigators, but he knows he won't survive any complete investigation, so that's out.)

As many as 60 Russians are expected to attend the National Prayer Breakfast in Washington.
Weird, that goes against the Russian law against sharing faith in homes, online, or anywhere but recognized church buildings.
In Russia, christians are arrested for this behavior!
