I guess he thinks it's going to bring in the female vote or something? Like Palin did for McCain? I dunno. The Republicans this go 'round make no sense to me at all. I'm not opposed to a female VP running mate at all, but holy crap balls, pick one that makes sense.quade - The World's Most Boring Skydiver

Being that Cruz is already mathematically eliminated from the Republican nomination, he is hoping the choice of Fiorina will give him some needed momentum the rest of the way to keep Trump from reaching the 1237 Delegate threshold and force a contested/brokered convention, and roll the dice there. Highly unlikely that it'll happen, even if most of the remaining states are out in the western half of the US, where Cruz has done well.

billvon 2,436 #95 April 29, 2016 QuoteToday, after former Speaker of the House John Boehner directly compared him to Satan, Ted Cruz pulled a hard Mariah and said he simply doesn’t know Boehener: “I’ve never worked with John Boehner… I’ve never known the man.” But Ted, you were his lawyer. Hmm. Given that Cruz was Boehner's lawyer, he clearly knew him and worked with him. But then again, Cruz was a lawyer _and_ a politician - and people are surprised he's lying?
