To that point, the bill _itself_ contained pork. ($450 million to the DOT and $3.1 million to the Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board, whatever that is)

It has been so long since they did this that I am not sure anybody remembers how any more. The congress has not passed a budget via the normal appropriations process since 1997.

Maybe the right wing conservatards could quit supporting the dickheads that fucked over the economy between 2001-2009, and then procedded to do everything they could to prevent it's recovery from January 2009 right up to today.

The party of NO has corrupted the USA and the media. The media is corporate owned, with ownership consolidated in the hands of few companies. The end result is that the false information presented is repeated by all of the major information sources and believed as fact by those that can't find accurate information sources. An example of this has been in the news recently. The budget battle that recently concluded temporarily was caused by teabaggers who decided to try to nullify a law that was duly passed by Congress and found to be Constitutional by a severely right leaning Supreme Court. This was a totally one-sided attack on a settled law, without any precedent in US History. The corporate media made it sound like both sides had something to do with it, when it was 100% the teabaggers and the spineless rescumlicans. Trying to force negotiations over the funding of an already passed law is wrong, and absolutely violates the principles of the Constitution. It is not in any way an example of "loyal opposition". The cancer that is mass media made it sound like the Obama administration was doing something wrong in telling the bastards to go fuck themselves.

The only positive outcome of the travesty is that the backlash against the rescumlicans should cause them to lose the majority in the House in the 2014 elections. If Reid hardens up and forces significant change in the filibuster rules, we can go back to having a government that works for the people, not the corporations.

They stuck to their guns all-right! Boehner tacked-on a rider for a dam project in his home state of Ohio that was approved in 1988 for millions of dollars and nothing was done. Now, that same project will cost billions.
All those politicians did was work-out a way to win mid-term elections.

Why is it bad that the minority leader of the effort to shut down government until we have spending reform agreed to reopen government in exchange for a $3B pork project? Seriously, what's your question, here?

A lot of pork is for legitimate work, but it doesn't change the fact that this compromises their claimed philosophy. Of course, we know from the past 3 GOP Presidents that spending reform is not a priority.

Because Boehner recently shut down the government because he thinks we are spending too much. He finally agreed to reopen it - and snuck on an amendment to get lots of government pork for his home state.

He is the problem he is trying to cure.

That "worse outcome" wasn't exactly avoided they just pushed it off into the future instead of dealing with the problem now. Hell many don't even want to admit that the real problem is Government spending is out of control.

(Overall it's sad that that is even worthy of note, but at least they avoided the imminent disaster.)
