Great skydiving quote...

Recommended Posts

Hey all.....i was reading the message boards from the WFFC website and came across this which was in a story. It was so true and powerful. I like it:
...those who don't skydive will find it difficult to understand the mindset of people who participate in the sport. Many of them consider it a way of life, a religion. If you miss a par putt, you go to the next hole and try again. If you double fault, you either lose the point or you hit another serve. If you mess up in skydiving, you die.
-Rodney Hart
Anyone else have good quotes like this you want to share??:)--------------

"Don't pull low, unless you are"
Hey....I have resembled that remark. I dont have a Cypress so I dont have to worry about some stupid machine screwing up my skydive. I pull when I get good and damn ready!

This one was written more about flying in general, but it does have meaning to skydiving as well.
He who has experienced the miracle of flight,
will walk the earth with is eyes turned skywards,
cause there he was and there he will ever be.

It's long but it's my Favorite
I watched him strap on his harness and helmet, climb into the cockpit and, minutes later, a black dot falls off the wing two thousand feet above our field. At almost the same instant, a while streak behind him flowered out into the delicate wavering muslin of a parachute -- a few gossamer yards grasping onto air and suspending below them, with invisible threads, a human life, and man who by stitches, cloth, and cord, had made himself a god of the sky for those immortal moments.

heres the second half of that quote
A day or two later, when I decided that I too must pass through the experience of a parachute jump, life rose to a higher level, to a sort of exhilarated calmness. The thought of crawling out onto the struts and wires hundreds of feet above the earth, and then giving up even that tenuous hold of safety and of substance, left me a feeling of anticipation mixed with dread, of confidence restrained by caution, of courage salted through with fear. How tightly should one hold onto life? How loosely give it rein? What gain was there for such a risk? I would have to pay in money for hurling my body into space. There would be no crowd to watch and applaud my landing. Nor was there any scientific objective to be gained. No, there was deeper reason for wanting to jump, a desire I could not explain. It was that quality that led me into aviation in the first place -- it was a love of the air and sky and flying, the lure of adventure, the appreciation of beauty. It lay beyond the descriptive words of man -- where immortality is touched through danger, where life meets death on equal plane; where man is more than man, and existence both supreme and valueless at the same instant.

Proverbs of a skydiver:
He who jumps after Jack Burke big way gets the long spot.
Keep yours hands and mouth from your riggers wife.
To avoid being the wind dummy, stay off the first load of the day.
He who keeps negative comments to himself has many friends at the drop zone.
Those who freefly are destine to take the back of the craft.

Oh god...heard the funniest one this weekend from Dennis at Skydive San Marcos.
"If a skydiver can't eat it, drink it or fuck it, he'll find a way to break it."
