skycat 0 #57 March 29, 2002 QuoteHas anyone here ever read the complete bible from cover to cover? My aunt was a catholic school teacher, and I'm almost positive she had. Lord that woman knew more verses and quotes than I think even our priest did. Didn't matter what you did she always had a section of bible that referred to it in some way, and you had to read it while kneeling in the corner thinking about what you did wrong. hooked 0 #58 April 11, 2003 I'm reading "A Man Named Dave", and just finished "A Child called 'It'"(the first in the series, and "The Lost Boy" (the second in the series. This is the true story of Dave Pelzer and his life of child abuse to a grown man trying to understand 'why it happened' and his courage and triumph. These are great books, but it does deal with child abuse so it is sometimes hard to understand how anyone could be so abusive. A must read for those that can endure the subject. marcandalysse 0 #67 April 11, 2003 wow you all have great picks! I liked snow crash alot, but CITY that is one older classic science fiction that few know about.....as a preteen I received from a retiree neighbor a bag of beatup sf paperbacks with prices like 35cents on the lurid covers, and that was one of the best of them.... I just read William Gibson's latest, "Pattern Recognition" it has no 'cyberpunk' or 'science fiction themes' yet describes today 2003 and makes it look just as novel and trippy as in his other books. Highly recomended, a fast read too.also the 'dangerous visions' pick....that too is a classic collection of stories, totally radical for those acid-dripped days (published in '67 or so) "The reason angels can fly is that they take themselves so lightly." --GK Chesterton
