Very sad local news.

Somehow I'm still here. I really don't know why my parents gave me such free reign on our 1986 300ZX. Let me see, two occassions that would have been fatal, once successfully outrunning a cop (would have lost head from father and Navy Scholarship from school), multiple times when I took it to a point way beyond it's shoddy suspension and handling abilities. If I ever have kids they're getting roller skates.

The kids in this crash live in a very wealthy area. An airstrip runs beside the houses. Most of the residents have a special garage where they park their airplane.

It was my understanding that the kids didn't actually live in the neighborhood. Obviously the parents are wealthy though.

Amen. We have a fleet of Ford Escorts for our teenaged drivers. Seatbelts, airbags, and a pokey 4 cylinder engine is just what they need for transportation. I had a V-8 Mustang as a teenager. That was more car than I should have had. My license suffered accordingly.

Tragic yes- however I agree -darwin at work. I saw a post on another forum that had the driving record of the car occupants- all of them had numerous violations, suspensions etc.. all at 19-20 years old. These are clearly spoiled rich kids that unfortunately learned a tough lesson- the driver was on a BMW forum hours before this complaining how the 500 HP car shifted roughly at 140 MPH.
Glad they din't kill innocent people- Dad deserves a lifetime of guilt and agony for giving his kid loaded weapon to play with. Unfortunately in todays society they'll sue someone (BMW- the air port, john Travolta you name it.) just to shift blame from themselves.

How does it work when someone who lives in the same household steal the car?

When I was an insurance agent in IN, state law required that an auto policy cover everyone who lived in the house. Of course John Q Public didn't understand that, and he would get miffed that I was asking about the driving records of the other people in the house after he had made it clear to me that no one else would be driving the car he was insuring with me.

That's how it is (was) here in WA while I was an agent, too.

You both say was.... are you two NO longer underwriters? If not, was it the redtape that drove you out b/c of your "concious"
My agent tells me basically the same thing... I have a 27yo daughter that just moved back in after Her divorce, and He suggested that She be part on my policy to get the "multiple car discount for my premium.... I say bullshit... Why should I care about that when IF She gets a DUI or a ticket for an accident(s), then it is MY RATE that goes uP not Hers!!!???

HELLO!!!

Can either of you elaborate a weebit about this?

I dunno BO! He swears that it is legit! But I dont like it, I have talked to him a few times over this subject and it seems to go no where! His company is a family owned firm since like 189? something...

I thought the same thing you said, but my agent says that "it is best" for me...

Last thing I want/need is 1- my rates go through the roof and 2-get CANCELLED!

The later will set me off almost to the point of a suit for ill advice by the one that SUPPOSSEDLY is there to protect me.... (somewhat, cause I KNOW that only I myself can really protect me and my own assets)...

I am going to make some calls tomorrow and chk on this more... I am ALWAYS talking about my gut instincts here, this has been one of them. Let ya'll know l8r

In Canada you have to sign an exclusion clause for those in your household that are not to drive the car. This means however that they are not EVER insured to drive that car, not even borrow it to go to the store or they are looking at a MASSIVE fine for driving w/o insurance.

It is worth it if your kid has had a DUI, your rates would be increased by 100% for three years even if you say they will not drive the car, unless you sign this waiver.

That crash was f'ing terrible... [:/] What a waste.. Alcohol not a factor my ass, you'd have to be pretty naive to believe that.

It's only a waste if the deceased have siblings to pass on the stupid genes. Otherwise, the gene pool is a bit smarter. Stupid people not breeding is a good thing.

But it's a shame the car is totaled.
Illinois needs a CCW Law. NOW.

Stupid fucking kills.

Darwin claims 5 stupid fuckers. The driver was a stupid fucker to peal rubber on a fucking runway and the other 4 are stupid fuckers for getting in the car with him.

Oh well, at least they did it on a runway and not on a street where they could have put others at risk. At least they got to fly! :|

I hope every damn high school is gonna have pictures of this accident to show at the beginning of each school year as a warning with a slogan like "don't be a stupid fu... ummm just don't be stupid!" :P

I've sat here thinking about this and for the life of me I just cannot work up any sympathy for the kids. The driver's parents, not them either.

For any siblings and extended family, yes.

For the passengers' parents and family, yes.

Apparently they were not tough enough for the stupidity.
My reality and yours are quite different.

I can only say "There, but for the grace of God...".

I put the blame square on the parents. My X married a little weasel who has an '06 Vette (which I helped pay for...'nother story). I get on MySpace regularly to do some parent snooping. The little weasel's kid was boasting about going 120 in the car. I busted him to his stepmother. I mean, put me behind the wheel of a car like that when I was 18 and you bet I'm gonna see what it'll do. So sad. I'll bet it's the classic scenario of rich kids with too much money and time on their hands.

I'm disapointed by what I am hearing. [:/]

Stupid sure... but stupid does not make you deserve to be dead. I've done stupid things too. And I'm sure most of you have too. Maybe not quite that stupid, but still.

I feel for the boys.

Rich and spoiled does not make you deserve to be dead either. It sometimes amplifies the level of stupidity you feel you can get away with though.

I'm sure there are alot of rich and spoiled kids who are skydivers doing stupid things with hot canopies which they can afford but not handle.

I do not wish they hook it in to remove them from the gene pool or take them from our sport. I wish that they have some luck on their side and eventually humble themselves enough to see the err of their ways, or make it long enough to gain the skills to do their stupid things and be safe doing it, and not hurt others in the process.

Those who wish death or joke about the death of those they do not know make me sick. Perhaps I've been a little too close to death lately losing my own son. [:/]

I'm willing to bet that the only difference this made was that it was a nice car on a private runway instead of a shitty car on a public back road. What does everyone have against rich kids? Jealous? I know I am, but that doesn't make me not like them without even knowing them. It isn't their fault that their parents had money. They could've driven off that berm and killed themselves in a 1984 Ford pickup if that was what they had at their disposal. Being rich doesn't make you stupid things.
