Gimme a tip, dammit!

I judge people by how they treat the wait staff. I assume if they'll screw over the waiters for things not in their control, they'll fuck me over for no damn good reason too.

If they are fucking you over Mr Quade there probably IS a good reason. Maybe they've met you previous:ph34r::ph34r::ph34r:

I've waited tables for a period when I started out in life. I have to agree with Nataly here. If your service is crap, don't expect a good tip or any at all. I was mentored by an old hand when I first started. She was an expert of being where she had to be when she had to be. She pulled a hundred a night. It's all about multi-tasking. Why should someone have to deal with crap service when one would rather not go to a McD's and want to pay extra? I'll tell you something. . .Nobody, whose worse job ever was waiting tables, is going to lecture me on expectations on what they deserve. You can't hack it? Go work at a burger king or a Foot locker.

How does your country allow such terrible wages. In socialist Australia (in your eyes) the minimum wage is around $11 per hour. Hence no tipping unless outstanding service.

When i ws in vegas last year i went along with it. Arrived hotel tiped $10 for bags out of taxi then another $6 when bags delivered to room then 25 per cent of the meal and on it went
I tend to be a bit different. enjoyed my time in the sport or is it an industry these days ??

You expect to be served...they expect to get tipped.

You get bad service, you give a bad tip.

It's not like they made her sit in the corner starring at a wall with no food...no service.

DUDE you just made a COMPLETE COCK of yoursaelf and now you try to blame Nataly for it.
Fuck dude, I rag on her at every opportunity, but you missed the mark by a mile:D:D:D:D:D

And then tried to insult her some more:D:D

FAIL of the month:ph34r:

Once you pull your nose out of her ass, you might see that she just screwed over a poor waitress who did nothing to deserve it.

Another fail on your part dude.
Nat will be the 1st to tell you I think she's pretty much a Twat.
You on the other hand fucked up, and now you're trying to deflect, from your fucked-upedness (yes it's a word, i just made it up)

I really could give two shits about your opinion.

Oh, I get you. . . Bad service than bad tip vs. no tip. Makes sense. I have a different opinion on that matter though. sometimes a "bad" tip may be mistaken as a "good" tip from someone who is from a different geography. Example. . .For average service I tip 20%. For outstanding service my cousin tips a dollar. . .at a $100 bill in downtown San Diego restaurant. Quite embarrasing for me. But when I was a server, I caught quickly everyone has different opinion on "great tipping".

No tipping is a sure-fire way of telling the server they weren't up to par. A person can be Nice and always tip someone for their hard work, but it can be a disservice to them. give a man a fish, he can eat for a day. Teach a man to fish, he can feed himself. In a sense, the best way to prevent someone from moving forward is never let them know they are screwed up. Some people judge someone by how they treat the servers (being nice); I judge someone by how they are willing to develop someone (hold them up to a standard).

It's because we tip. Even assholes tip 15% in America.

You had to sit in a corner? What exactly is wrong with that. Maybe you smell bad.;)

So I should pay someone more for carrying a £100 bottle of wine than a £30 bottle.... Wow you folks are weird.

Well. . .if its a 1855 classification First Cru Bordeaux, especially a Paulliac region, maybe some extra service.:D

You should expect more from a person serving you the $100 bottle of wine.

Have you ever been to a fine restaurant?

The level of service is better than a family restaurant or a fast food place.

It is therefore worth more.

How do you know the bad service was the fault of the server? Many people would say "ah...bad food, no tip." "I had to wait too long...no tip" These common issues have nothing to do with the server.

The patrons do not have enough information to judge the server...they are not qualified. If you have a problem, take it up with management...not some stressed out single mother of 3 kids trying to make a decent wage working for some cheap ass douche bag that's pocketing your cash from some shitty food cooked by some sloppy ass bastard making 15-20+ bucks an hour.

They are paid considerably more to do that job too, that in no way means that they DESERVE a bigger tip than anyone else.

Good points. And this is where communication comes in. We usually knew before hand when things are slowing up and were quick to let the patrons know. (we have a sudden influx of customers and our extra servers will not be here in time. What can we do to help you for your extra wait time?)

Bad food? Not really anything you can do so much without selling out the cooks, but i find that talking to the manager immediately with any complaint that a customer has can prevent a loss in tips. Managers generally will talk to the customers immediately and this helps a lot.

But for the single mother of three kids, why should she get extra attention than anyone else due to her personal life? The customers did not put those kids in her lap. If anything, she pretty much has more motivation to learn the tricks of the trade.

I was going for the oscar...:P

but let's face it...it seems most people don't care enough to speak to management, and the waitresses take most of the heat because they're the "front man." They obviously don't make enough to take that heat...

These women get shit on all their lives...It fuckin' pisses me off.

So do you tip less for more expensive food?

Or do you just not tip at all?

If your country forces you to pay a certain amount for service then I suppose I may become bitter too,

The funny thing is I bet most servers in the US make more than they do in Australia.

In Boston a server will pull in $150 to $250 an night in tips at a mid priced level establishment.

At a fine food spot, they can bring in $300-$600 a night.

Which is exactly why I don’t tip, those fuckers earn more than i do why the hell should i be subsidising them.

Yes, actually that is *exactly* what they did! I was put in a corner next to/behind a pillar and forgotten. I kept fighting to get the waitress' attention. People who arrived after me finished their meal before I even got mine.

And that is totally beside the point. I don't care about the waitress' 10 illegitimate kids - should salary be adjusted to fit needs? Mine isn't. I don't care if they work their asses off - should we reward effort and not results? I worked for 3 months as a Recruitment Consultant - I didn't bring in the cash despite working like a maniac. I got sacked. Are the circumstances beyond her control? No. She can do *her* job well, and if she doesn't like her job she can get another one.

And if I don't feel like giving a tip, she can suck it up and bitch about it later.

This is mostly a American thing and some European, its not big in the UK. As far as i am concerned, if i am abroad i try and pick up local customs. I will only give a tip if the person gives good service, if not,no ! its not a right.

If they really on tips tobbost their wages i can understand it but it doesn't alter the face poor service zero tip:|, good service Tip:)

I had an interesting experience a few days ago in Nacogdoches, Texas. I checked into the restaurant on FourSquare, and noticed there was a "mayor" on there, so I asked the waitress if she knew the person. She said "no, why?" So I tried to tell her that the person was the mayor, and the waitress proceeded to chew me out and state that "THIS restaurant doesn't HAVE a mayor". She got really rude with it, too.

So -- no tip. She really shouldn't have chewed me out until AFTER I left the tip!

I'm not sure I understand this. Mayor? Restaurant?

Anyhow, maybe you and she were talking past each other. Maybe she is proud of Mexican cuisine, and thought you were asking for "mayo", which she considers vile, and thought you were insulting her so she was deeply offended and it's a good thing you left when you did because she was going to get her brother to take care of you.

So here's your tip: never ask a Texican waitress for mayo.

Funny story I got from 3 UK dudes I met skiing in CO one day:

They were working in TX, and had gone out to a pizza restaurant one night. The waitress noticed the accents and asked where they were from:

"Scotland", answered one.

"Oh, my" the waitress exclaimed, "You speak very good English for a Scottish person!"
