Adding inches...

Recommended Posts

I'll be damned... My boyfriend told me his height and I told him there is NO WAY he is that much taller than me because I'm 5'4" and 3/4 (nearly 5'5"). so we measured his height, and he was right, which I STILL could not believe after I converted centimetres to inches via my trusty google converter...

So we measured my height and I am in fact just over 5'6" :o:o:o I'm putting shocked emoticons, because I have believed for about 15 years that I am one height, and have now been measured several times (by different people), each time coming in at just over 5'6". How could so many doctors measure my height wrong all these years????? :|

Maybe you are just standing a little taller these days! ;):)
Shoes?

Barefoot.

I really don't think I've suddenly "grown" and I have always had a very good posture.

You're in France and you're using some medieval measuring system because?

Which system are you calling medieval, exactly? I can see advantages to both... 12 is more divisible than 10... Lots of thing still work on this basis - time, for instance (12 hours, 12 months)... But decimals (10) is more intuitive than fractions (12)... You know immediately that 0.25 is greater than 0.23 but most people have to think about 3/4 vs 5/16...

A Scotsman invented the decimal point. Why ever would we expect the French to use it?

I was going to follow JM's post with a snide comment involving Remi, but he beat me to it.>:(

Ok, now show us your metric clock and calendar, then show us your metric latitude and longitude, then show us your metric speed of light or distance from equator to pole. Please show me your metric periodic table or table for tides or eclipses. Please show me your metric HD TV screen.

Just because humans have 10 fingers doesn't mean the universe is metric.

There is, nor will there ever be, anything particularly special about any standard of measurement you come up with regardless of what is adopted. It's all arbitrary.

Hi Paul,

It's all arbitrary.

Who said it isn't?

It is that the metric system is simpler to use.

It is only a matter of becoming comfortable & experienced with it.

Last week I paid my housecleaner with a check ( which I always do put she was a substitute person ). She said that I had dated it wrongly. I showed that it was correct at 10 Oct 12.

PS) The last that I knew ALCOA was dating everying as year/month/day. :S
