Who Was Jim Slaton?

I see he made a wikipedia and several websites for himself. Did he really bring that much to skydiving or was he just a self promoting ahole.

Looks to me like Jim has listed his skydiving resume ~ highlighting some rather interesting & outstanding accomplishments as a promotional & marking tool.

It's called advertising...yes is self-promoting and no there's nothing about it that makes him an 'ahole'.

It ain't braggin' if ya really done it! B|

You have the true pioneers like Omar Alhegelan. He does not start a wikipedia about himself he does not brag. He is not a skygod.

What about Olaf Zipster?

He invented freeflying you know...

I have not met and don't know Jim Slaton but it looks to me like he's a professional skydiver and this is just advertising his services. Any small business would do the same. A lot of skydiving videographers have their own web sites too. Many teams have their own web sites.

I don't know why you're getting your panties in a wad about this.

No respect.

Jim may be a self promoter, but he single handedly did more for the promotion of Canopy Piloting in this sport than any other single person I know of. Plenty of others contributed along the way but no one to the extent of Mr. Slaton.

There's nothing wrong with self promotion, it's how successful people get to be successful.

Absolutely, unequivocally, unarguably yes.

"Jim along with his partner Lyle Presse were responsible for delivering the new sport of Canopy Piloting (a.k.a. swooping) to the International Parachute Commission which got accepted at the IPC’s 54th annual meeting in Brazil."

"Jim with his partner Lyle Presse organized the 1st World Cup of Canopy Piloting"

If you like swooping, I would say yes.

I remember him for a few years ago. I sold him some old F-111 canopies for his ground launch school he was starting up. Haven’t heard anything about lately.
