  1. Yea, I was thinking Sangi too as I read thru the thread. Then there was the guy before Sangi that Sangi was told to use as an example. He's dead. I forgot his name because Sangi lived and posted video. So goes the forum. And the hampster keeps the wheel going round and round. It's called the Hillbilly Hop N Pop dude. If you're gonna be stupid, you better be tough. That's fucked up. Watermelons do not grow on trees! ~Skymama
  2. Were you around for that Sangi kid, and all his bullshit. Same story as you, thought he could do it on his own, thought he knew what he was doing, did all sorts of 'figuring' on his own, and ultimately drilled himself into the LZ somewhere. He used to post daily, but as of late he's been quiet. I'm sure learing to walk again takes time, so maybe that's where he is. Do a search for his name and look up the incident thread. He even posted a copy of his Gopro video of his incident. Same shit, different day? No, same shit, different jumper.
  3. reply] Maybe we should start an informal stat thing like DSE is doing on the camera thread...I can think of 5 life changers I've personally witnessed in the past 2 years alone...and probably 20 off hand I've heard about in that time. Thats the big elephant in the room that a lot of people can't see or don't want to talk about but they are out there. 1) Sangi 2) Tim Sagehorn 3) 4) How many more? 10? 20? I first heard the following statement in 1985 from a old friend when I was considering getting back in the sport. "Who says skydivers are stupid? We invented a whole new way to kill ourselves" That was 25 years ago ladies and gents, Based on current data that doesn't exist or is skethy and ad it to the 25 yr old quote above "Who says skydivers are stupid? We invented a whole new way to kill and maim ourselves" I know I'm not going to be around in another 25 yr's
  4. Boogie was in Lithuania...(land of the Sangi) Hop and pops were from an AN-2
  5. Have him ask Sangi. Sangi was under a 129, but only loading it at 1.3. That didn't work out so well. "There are NO situations which do not call for a French Maid outfit." Lucky McSwervy "~ya don't GET old by being weak & stupid!" - Airtwardo
  6. Fingers crossed for you Sangi. That sort of condition I wouldn't wish on anyone. I'm sure your doctors will have told you that nerve regeneration is pretty much the slowest process in the body, but it can happen. Try and stay positive.
  7. Oh the irony! Your Bounce Bingo card has crashed! Try again... Nope, didn't even come close to dying. How about posting your name and DZ so that people can make an informed choice not to jump with you if that's what they want? You can go and be the Skygod, and they can avoid you, problem solved. Of course, if you're just trolling, or if you know that you wouldn't say half the dumb crap you come out with to peoples faces at your dz, by all means, keep schtum. The Sangi thread is an exact parallel. Ignore the camera vs canopy bit - it's the attitude of 'I know everything' that makes people draw the conclusion that you're on the same path. I won the bounce bingo for him - who's going to do it for you, I wonder? This isn't about harassing newbies - if you're going to come onto a public forum, full of people with far more experience and knowledge than you seem to posess, and then make blanket statements that are plain wrong you can expect to be called on them, because one day some gung-ho newbie may well read your WRONG statements and use them as justification for doing whatever they want... "Oh - I saw on the internet that there has never been a fatality attributed to small format cameras, so I'll probably be fine putting one on at 50 jumps. My skills are way ahead of the curve." Then they take out another jumper because they're in over their head without realising it, based on bad information. That's what it comes down to for me - posts here stick around, and it's amazing what people dig up as justifications for doing stupid shit, and unfortunately for every 1 post saying 'you'll probably be fine' it seems to take about 50 pointing out how dumb it really is to make any impact on the future newbie. I don't get why you wouldn't put your name on your posts - if you're so certain of your conclusions, and confident in your research...
  8. >if you're somehow under the delusion that rapidly downsizing and swooping as Sangi >did compares to wearing a camera then it just goes to show how irrational your >argument is. There's no comparison between the two. There sure is. They both contain one very important component that is identical in both cases - a skydiver who thinks "I'm shit hot, and all that canopy nazi/camera nazi advice doesn't apply to me. I'm special." A lot of your arguments could be taken verbatim from Sangi's old threads, just replacing "canopy" with "camera."
  9. "I'm fully aware of the history surrounding Sangi, and if you're somehow under the delusion that rapidly downsizing and swooping as Sangi did compares to wearing a camera then it just goes to show how irrational your argument is. There's no comparison between the two." You're fully aware that Sangi didn't listen to a mountain of good advice until it was too late. Yet, you're still here talking smack w/the same thick skull & 'tude? I call Bullshit. You're either the Troll you've been accused of being in earlier threads. Or, you really are that stupid. Either way, you're not worth wasting one more minute on. Where do you jump, in Utah? Good, I'm nowhere near you. Go ahead & kill yourself. DO NOT take anyone else w/you.
  10. I'm fully aware of the history surrounding Sangi, and if you're somehow under the delusion that rapidly downsizing and swooping as Sangi did compares to wearing a camera then it just goes to show how irrational your argument is. There's no comparison between the two. There may be no comparison between the two but when a jump goes for shit the end result can be the same or comparable or worse "The greater danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it." - Michelangelo
  11. I'm fully aware of the history surrounding Sangi, and if you're somehow under the delusion that rapidly downsizing and swooping as Sangi did compares to wearing a camera then it just goes to show how irrational your argument is. There's no comparison between the two. It's all been said before, no sense repeating it here.
  12. Holy Sangi-Sh*t... I may be naive, but it's amazing to me that someone could be so foolish. W/all the information that's readily available on this site. How can you possibly be so dense??? Think you're ten feet tall & bullet proof? Think all the old hands are just overly conservative Wimps? I strongly urge you to test your superiority by reaching out to this guy: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?username=Sangi; He has plenty of time to answer your PMs. Almost four months after hammering in, he still can't walk or even feel his legs. We remain hopeful that one day he will walk again. If you don't reach out to him, & have an honest exchange of ideas? You're an absolute idiot, & already crippled or dead. Please at least have the decency to only kill yourself when you pound in. Edit to add: Why not? I'll even make it easier for you. Read this thread from beginning to end: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?do=post_view_flat;post=4192725;page=1;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;mh=25; Sound familiar???
  13. Swing and a miss. There are many who have taken the time to learn everything they could about their canopies before downsizing or attempting HP flight. But you're not going to see or recognize that. You've certainly missed most of the other obvious clues regarding my experience and efforts to sowly and safely progress. The slow and deliberate progression is what proves I don't have -- nor do I think that I have -- Mad Skillz. Sangi's accident was partly due to his perception of his Mad Skillz. Even though he had returned to the Safire after briefly jumping a Katana, he still pounded in. The mistake he made was very clear and was not caused by some mysterious burst of gravity. Or are you suggesting that the Safire has such a small margin for error that it deserves the attention of 'the big boys in aviation'?
  14. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF578oSkrKk Looking at the video again, it is clear that you are seriously out of touch. That should not send a cold chill down anyone's spine. It was a stupid low HP turn that he continued until impact. Sangi has said the same himself. Doesn't look to me like the low turn continued until impact. Its clear the turn was stopped, only it was stopped a little too low. You live more in the few minutes of skydiving than many people live in their lifetime
  15. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tF578oSkrKk Looking at the video again, it is clear that you are seriously out of touch. That should not send a cold chill down anyone's spine. It was a stupid low HP turn that he continued until impact. Sangi has said the same himself.
  16. Never ever scared yourself Martini? I did several times and I've never swooped. Did watching Sangi's video not send a cold chill down your spine? I see you use a wingsuit. Did the threads on people that didn't do up their legstraps not send a cold chill down your spine. Did some of the incident threads not send a cold chill down your spine. Always remember " There, but for the grace of god go I"
  17. Hi VB, correct me if i,m wrong, but you seem to be taking Bills posts as a personal attack on yourself and your gear choices which they are most definately not. You're jumping a very high performance canopy which many believe including myself and i'm almost certain many of your fellow skydivers at your home DZ is beyond your current skill set given your time in the sport and your jump numbers par-se. I also believe you were jealous of Sangi when he started jumping the 107 hence the outting in the S & T forum, dispite him reverting back to the 129 Safire (ironically the same model/size as the canopy you currently jump) he still biffed in and now with the benefit of hindsight has seen the light. Bill amongst others is simply trying to help you see the same light and avoid another possible but senseless injury/death due to these things happen to others not me mindset. Since the Sangi thread which you started you've shown yourself up to be nothing but a hypocrite hence my suppostion of the green eyed monster thinly diguished as concern in that said thread. Your posts since, though sometimes amusing don't add anything constructive to the dicussions in hand and it would be grownup to show just a little respect for those you don't know as well as those that you do. You're formally invited to call me a Cee yoU Next Tuesday or whatever publically on these forums or via PM or if you like to my face (address can be supplied), i can assure you verbal attacks cause me no pain impacting with solid objects does and you should have it in your own interests to minimise the likelyhood of the latter. .CHOP WOOD COLLECT WATER.
  18. Yep - totally agree. I think that in most cases there are warning signs before someone hooks in or takes out another jumper. Take Sangi for example - there was plenty of time for people to see that something was not right without any need for "tests". What it does take is: a. someone to actively monitor people under canopy b. someone to take action where it is warranted To my knowledge these are the steps that have been taken at some of the most prestigious DZs in the US, such as Skydive Arizona and Perris where Bryan Burke and Dan BC are really trying to do their bit. Again - totally agree. If that's how it came across I am not surprised you took issue with it! Sorry about that.
  19. Oh yeah Sangi off topic, but fuck it. I went and read your incident and saw your video. Props for manning up and not just disapperaing here on DZ.com. I have a bounce vid too, but nowhere near yours. Nothing was bruised except my pride fortunately. It was on a 90 when I first started swooping. Held on to doubles a little too long before starting the turn. Could have salvaged it by snapping the turn quicker, but I usually carve it slow. Probably could have dug out on the toggle, but found myself above my pay grade skill wise and hesitated for an instant. I was lucky enough to bounce and not get hurt. That humbled me and definately caused me to slow my role. I have spent an entire season perfecting my 90 and won't progress to a 180 until all three parties, my coach, dzo, and S&TA say I can. Anyway brother heal fast. For everyone out there please know I am NOT comptimplating downsizing. Really I am not. I know that I do not have the skill to push my Samurai to it's limit yet. Until then I have no business on a 120. I am not just yanking on a riser cranking out 270 thinking I am getting all she has. I am learning to perfect my 90 and taking my sweet time doing so. I just realize people will think 400 jumper asking about a Velo (roll of the eyes) I was seriously wondering down the road type stuff, and no my down the road is not in 100 or 200 jumps lol. I am an asshole, but I am honest
  20. Claiming "you can jump rsl's, skyhooks all day since you probably will need it" is a lame attempt at a PA... Just admit it, everyone else can see it. Well, Sangi was not a FATALITY now was he? See, I have been on this board 10? years and been skydiving 18..... BTW you might want to read: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1673856;search_string=2005;#1673856 And http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=869327#869327 So I track all the accidents (not just fatalities) and have for 18 years.... I just don't care to report them anymore. Not when you are low due to losing track of altitude..... Like I have said, I have CUTAWAY at 750-800 feet. It is a much better bet than a guy with 10 times LESS experience. Ah, how cute... another lame attempt at a PA. "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  21. yea-yea, if you like sangi so much, why dont you guys get a room together!? you can repeat it all you want, it doesnt make it more true. people at his dz voiced their concerns as well. and pounding on your experience vs. mine only seems to imply that you have nothing else to support YOUR authorative (is that even a word!?) claims than just that. look, i'm tired of this stupid arguments, i'll happily do the way i was taught. you can jump rsl's, skyhooks all day since you probably will need it, i'm happy with audibles and a what i reckon to be safer pull-altitude. “Some may never live, but the crazy never die.” -Hunter S. Thompson "No. Try not. Do... or do not. There is no try." -Yoda
  22. That is due to not cutting away, not running out of altitude. And again..... Loss of altitude awareness does not really matter what altitude you are AT... It only matters that you THINK you have enough time. And if you don't lose altitude awareness it really does not matter. I have chopped from 750-800 feet before, AAD's fire the reserve at 750 feet. Again, I have more jumps on 'Modern canopies' than you have jumps. Fact is I most likely have more jumps on old canopies than you have jumps.... you still have not proven your points. Sangi said the same thing.... funny huh? "No free man shall ever be debarred the use of arms." -- Thomas Jefferson, Thomas Jefferson Papers, 334
  23. >sorry mate, but i'd rather trust their and my judgement than ANY posters on here. Yep. And again, Sangi used almost exactly those words. How'd that work out for him?
